Cold Water Sheeps...

Written by
The weather was in our favor today and wow, what a beautiful day. Rick was my solo guest for the day and you couldn't have asked for more perfect conditions. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina, we experienced a little morning fog to the sheepshead grounds but it soon cleared. The gulf has cooled to a very chilly 51 degrees and the bite was non existent until the tide turned to go out. With the warmer inshore waters running out and the sun warming the gulf a degree a two, it turned the sheepshead on. Rick and I had some good action on various ledges and rock piles for the afternoon, plus a gag grouper or two. A fine catch of sheepshead ended the day and I thank you for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River, Cold 1/2 Day....

Written by
I don't know about the start of 2014, but the weather has to get better soon. On today's trip, I had the great pleasure of having the Urban family on board and we made the best of a chilly situation. I was hoping the weather man was right with diminishing winds to run offshore for sheepshead, but it didn't happen. The team and I made the best of a chilly day, and we had a little bit of action in the river. Trout, mangrove snapper and lady fish around the springs kept the rods bent for a little while. I thank you all for hanging in there and giving today a try... Capt. Dan

UNFAIR LURES....

Written by
This past Monday we had our monthly Homosassa Guides Association meeting and we had Paul Van Reenen as a guest, show us his product. Paul is the owner of Unfair Lures and I must say, he offers some of the finest quality hard baits available. Superb terminal hard ware, life like finishes and exact bait fish profiles; it's a great lure. From trout, red fish, snook, tarpon and the fresh water bass fisherman; Unfair Lures offers a lure to fit your needs. I encourage you all to use them for yourselves and I'll be posting some reports on them from time to time. Thank you Paul for your presentation and look forward to using your lures... Capt. Dan...
It was the last day of my wife's Christmas vacation and we spent the day together sight fishing some red fish. I did have a charter yesterday, but there wasn't much to report with the cold temperatures and low water. We scrapped out some lady fish and small trout in the river and called it a day. Today however, was a different day with warm temperatures and plenty of sun shine; the conditions were prefect for taking the Silver King back in Sams Bayou. We poled the creeks on the low tide and with golden bream MirrOlure provoker jerk baits, we caught some beautiful red fish. You had to be there to see this, but on one cast. Becky hooks a decent sized black drum and while fighting it, the hook pulls and lands a couple feet away from the boat. We both notice a red fish in between us and on the same cast, she works it perfectly and "talks" that red fish in to eating (a 29" beauty too).... It was quite a show and two different fish on the same cast, it was definitely something to remember. A fun day in the back country, but we have a major cold front coming through the next couple of days. Hopefully later in the week, I'll be able to get my scheduled charters in and keep you all posted on the latest action.... Capt. Dan
