For all of you that are local, you know what the weather has been and it's been gusty to say the least. I've unfortunately had to cancel almost a weeks worth of charters due to the recent high winds, but it looks like we may have some relief soon. Yesterday, myself and a couple of my good guide friends that have been itching to go out; made a plan and we fished some creeks and canals back in Ozello today. We left the boats on the trailers and we put on our rubber boots and trekked through the weeds. It was a fun time fishing some of the back holes and creeks, even though it was a cold, windy day. I managed a couple snook and a couple trout, all being caught on a baby bass colored DOA jerk bait. A fun time, a good hike and just great seeing the beautiful country right here in Citrus County. I should be back on the big pond soon... Capt. Dan
Yes folks, it appears we've hit that time of February weather; when it's just to lousy to make it out. Since Wednesdays last charter, we've had a couple fronts come through, with quite a bit of rain and now the forecast for the upcoming week - high winds and pretty chilly temperatures." Not all is lost" as my good client Bill Lent says, and I'm busy at the vise tying tarpon flies and my July Wyoming vacation flies. I hope to make it out soon and thank you for the patience to all, that I've had to cancel... Capt. Dan
A very fun day with Nick and Mary out of Crystal River and today's plan was staying inshore due to the wind being up a bit. The incoming tide was perfect this morning for both targeting trout and red fish and the action was good. DOA glow jerk baits over the rock bars produced the trout and free lined live shrimp in the mullet schools put us on the red fish. We kept ten trout and released all the slot red fish, just taking pictures of them. The wind eventually calmed enough to make it offshore some, but the big sheepshead did not want to play for us in the afternoon. However, the small gag grouper were on the feed and we caught plenty. A great day and I look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
The day of all days to be on the water and it was AWESOME... I had Lauren, Gary and Dan on board for the day and these gentlemen hit it out of the park. The fog was a bit of an issue for the morning hours, but soon lifted and it was gorgeous. We did a combination trip of inshore trout on the kelp grass patches and dropping down shrimp for sheepsehad. Both target species bit very well and I can't thank you all enough for the fun time... Capt. Dan
