Labor Day Weekend Day 3 Sept. 5th 2010

With September being a fantastic month for red fish; Jim ,Terry and Jimmy came back up for a fun charter out of Homosassa. I have fished these guys several times now and they say each trip gets even better. We met at Macrae's at 8am, ran out the little Homosassa and immediately found a school of red fish. The first four cast were hook ups but they all fell a little shy of making it to the keeper size. Finally Jimmy hooked a beautiful 26" keeper and the rest soon followed. After our limit of reds were ran offshore caught a few trout and mixed up the day catching a bonus grouper. The big fights of the day was when Terry and Jimmy hooked into two large rays in the 50lb range and gave them a workout they won't soon forget. Thanks guys for another successful charter and here is today's mixed catch of red fish, trout and grouper... Capt. Dan

Labor Day Weekend Day 2 Sept. 4th 2010

With a special request from Mrs. Capt. Dan, I kept Saturday open for her to catch a few grouper. I wanted to check out some of my north numbers and with prime grouper season is just a few weeks away,I was anxious to see if anybody was home. We loaded up the live well with pinfish, passed the spoil banks ( which looked like a parking lot) and ran out to 20ft of water. We stopped on a few rocks and nothing much was there other than a few shorts. This is to be expected because larger grouper this time of year are typically holding on ledges rather than isolated rocks. Our next stop was a good break and we found the keepers. We boated 7 keepers but only kept two for a couple meals. We safely released the others for my upcoming charters. The fall is looking good and here is Becky with a couple nice gags... Capt. Dan

Labor Day Weekend Day1 Sept. 3rd 2010

I met two great guys today for a 1/2 day charter out of Crystal River. Jason and Adam met me at Pete's Pier for some inshore fishing. We loaded up at 8am and off to the creeks for some red fish. It didn't take long to hook up, and our first point produced 5 beautiful red fish. Free lined live shrimp did the trick. Next, we ran out to the deeper grass flats and put several speckled trout and a few silvers into the cooler. It was steady action and the usual mixed bag of sea bass, grouper, lady fish etc... kept us busy. A combination of DOA shrimp and Berkley gulps were the baits of choice. We were back at the marina just after noon and I thanks you both for the great morning. Here are the guys with today's catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Fishing Club, Trout and Reds Aug 28th & 29th 2010

Another successful couple of days out of Homosassa. Myself and Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney, Charlie Harris, Rick Spratt, Gary Cox, Jody Johnson and Kyle Messier fished the Dodson party to over a 110 keeper trout and several redfish for and outstanding weekend. Saturday brought overcast skies and a surprising NE breeze which gave us all a sense that there was a hint of fall in the air. The trout bite was quite good and we had 9 keepers and a mixed bag of a few other species before we pulled up to the island for a great shore lunch. Sunday the the sun came out and so did the redfish. All the boats found redfish measuring from under slot to over slot. My boat had the prize for the redfish with the most spots -- having 12. We finished up the day with 11 keeper trout, some sea bass and the usual mixed bag of other species. The ever reliable DOA glow shrimp was the preferred bait and it was nice to see the gulf had cooled down considerably from the weeks previous rain. Thanks to everyone for the fun charter and we will see you next time. Here is Chad and Mike with Saturdays catch before noon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Catch and Release Aug 27th 2010

I received a last minute call from Dan, who lives in New York requesting just a couple of hours on the water. I said no problem, and having fished Dan on several other charters out of Crystal River and Homosassa, I know he loves catching trout. He had his daughter Jessica with him and wanted to show her some of the various wildlife and maybe catch a fish or two. We left from Pete's Pier, ran out the salt river and it was fish on. We made two drifts on the shallow spotty bottom mixed with kelp grass and caught several trout in no time. The DOA deadly combos in the stark naked shrimp color did the trick once again. Today was just catch and release; only one trout was handled and the rest safely released with the X-Tools dehooker. After catching a few trout, we ran back in the river, saw dolphin, manatees and various birds to make this trip another success. Thanks as always Dan, and hope to see you soon... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Fishing Club Aug 22nd &23rd 2010

I had the pleasure of fishing the Williams' party from Atlanta the last two days, with fellow Homosassa Guide Association Captains Jim Long and William Toney. We fished an afternoon 1/2 day trip yesterday and targeted trout just west of St. Martins Keys. We all averaged around 5 keeper trout and a few shorts to fill out the afternoon. Today we left the dock at 8:30 am and ran out the Little Homosassa river to find choppy conditions and a stiff south breeze. I ran to the north and picked up 6 keeper trout, a mackerel and many shorts to have a busy fish catching morning. The new DOA stark naked color shrimp on the larger egg corks were the bait of choice. High tide today was just after noon and we did red fish for a while, but no keepers just two under slot reds. The rain was coming so we ended the day a little short and I apologize for no pictures. (We were trying to beat the thunder storms). Thanks everyone for a great couple of days and I hope the weather is more favorable for your next visit at the "club"... Capt. Dan

Limit of Grouper, Trout, Macks and a Goliath Aug 18th 2010

Wow, what a day! I had my good clients Dave and Bob on board today to target some Crystal River grouper. We left Pete's Pier at 8am sharp and the next stop was to pick up the pinfish trap. Well, there weren't very many pinfish for some reason or another, so we spent the next hour catching some quality grouper baits. Hand sized pinfish, grunts and sand perch filled the live well and I assured the guys these were grouper candy. It was quite rough in the morning, so we trout fished until the seas laid some, and then we made our run out to 15ft. We arrived, anchored up and fish on. The first three baits go hammered and three keeper gags came aboard. The next bite was the big one. Bob hooked up to a Goliath grouper and he had his hands full. He played the fish great and brought it boat side for a couple of pictures. It was in the hundred pound range and released to fight another day. The next cast produced our grouper limit, and we hit one more area inshore and caught some more trout and mackerel. Thanks guys for the memorable day and always look forward to our next charter... Capt. Dan
