New Year's Eve Redfishing. Dec. 31st 2009

Today was a fun day with my good friend Randy. We did some sight casting for tailing reds way in the backcountry of Ozello. This is the perfect time of year for this type of fishing. Low tides and clear water make this type of fishing almost hunting in a way because you see the fish you are targeting. The redfish were very cooperative. We boated 6 out of 8 fish and a couple of them were near the 30" mark. The hook pulled on two of them but that's ok, just watching the strike is half the fun. For sight casting to redfish I prefer to use a DOA golden bream jerk bait on a 1/16 oz jig head. If you can place your bait in close to the fish it will more times than not result in a hook up. Here is Randy with a redfish from the poling platform. A push pole in one hand, a rod between his knees and a redfish in the other ( that's a hand full ). Thanks for the great time and I'm sure we will do it again soon.... Capt. Dan
