Happy New Year & Ice Cold Trout. Jan. 2nd 2010

Happy New Year and I hope everyone had a great holiday season. We'll the first charter of the year started off to a good start. I had Jake and Mike on the boat today for a very cold and windy day fishing on the Crystal River. The day started out with the whole deck of my boat covered in ice and it remained on there until 10am. That's extremely cold for Citrus County and we had to stand on a couple to towels to keep from slipping into the drink. However, we fished the river and caught a few nice trout on DOA jigs and numerous lady fish to keep us moving and warm. As the tide went slack and extremely low, we targeted mangrove snapper to keep us busy for the afternoon. Free lined live shrimp did the trick and it was a lot of action for the blustery day. It's going to be extremely cold for a week or so, highs in the low 50's and freezing over night. If your planning on fishing this week keep in mind slow presentations and stay close to the bottom. Thanks guys for the good time and here is Jake with the first trout of the day, a beautiful 18" speckled trout....
