More Crystal River Trout June 19th 2010

The song remains the same and another outstanding charter out of Crystal River. I met Rick, Mark and Bernie at Pete's Pier and chasing trout was the name of the game. With the opening of scallop season today, I knew it was going to be a crazy day on the water. I ran out the back creeks to avoid the crowds, and soon we were offshore catching trout. We threw a combination of DOA shrimp and CAL jigs to put them in the boat. We dodged all the rain storms and it was another great day on the water. Thanks guys for the great time and happy birthday Rick. Here is today's haul of 14 keeper trout... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Red on the Fly June 18th 2010

I had Lauren and Matt on board again today, out of Crystal River for another great day on the water. I promised Matt some shots at fish with the fly rod this morning and I delivered. First we hit a spot in the river where the tarpon were rolling all over, but once again the tarpon just didn't want to cooperate. It was exciting seeing the fish, but no hook ups. The tide was running out fast and wanted a chance to get a red on the fly, before we lost to much water. So out the salt river we were, and back to Ozello, and in no time we were sight fishing some red fish. The first school of fish spooked, but we threw in the next little creek and it was fish on. A #8 bead head woolly bugger did the trick. Lauren was next, an immediately hooked up with a fresh Pete's Pier live shrimp. We saw several others, but they refused the shrimp and the fly. It was a great morning and glad to beat the T-Storms in. Look forward to seeing you both again and here is Matt's red fish on the fly.. Capt. Dan

Big Crystal River Trout June 17th 2010

It was a little bit of a slow day today out of Crystal River, but we stuck to it and found some big gator trout. I met Lauren and Matt at Pete's Pier, and we ran to the deeper flats where the bite has been fantastic. We caught numerous shorts and a mixed bag of other species, but the keepers were just not biting on the long outgoing tide. Just after noon the tide finally started coming in and the combination with the west wind and tide turned the trout on. We had three in the 20" class and one hefty trout at 23". We kept seven for dinner and the holographic root beer DOA shrimp did it again for us. Thanks for the fun time and here is Lauren with her hefty gator trout... Capt. Dan

GAFF MAGAZINE June 15th 2010

I just wanted everyone to know I signed on with Gaff Magazine. In the upcoming July/August issue I will be writing the fishing forecast for the Crystal River/Homosassa area. This is a true honor for me and please take the time to check out their publication. Back on the water thursday, see you then...Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout Galore June 14th 2010

I was back in Homosassa today, and myself and Capt. Don Chancey had an outstanding 1/2 day Homosassa charter. We met our group at Macrae's at 8am, and Jack and Craig joined me, while Capt. Don had the ladies for a busy fish catching morning. We ran out the little Homosassa river, cut through St. Martins Keys and in no time we were in the trout. It took a while to get a keeper, but when we put the first one in the cooler the rest quickly followed. The combination of DOA shrimp in the glow and holographic watermelon color were the go to colors today. I stress if your planning a trout fishing trip, keep your presentation slow and very subtle twitches. We had the usual mixed bag of blue fish, grouper, lady fish, sharks, sea bass etc... It was a fun morning. Thanks for an outstanding day and look forward to our fall charter. Here is today's group with the two boats catch... Capt. Dan

Back to Crystal River June 13th 2010

The trout fishing is truly as good as it gets right now. I know you've seen my previous reports and today was just as great. I met Chris and Andy at 8am after picking up some fantastic Pete's Pier live shrimp, and off we were. Our first drift in 10ft of water produced seven keeper trout and our second produced eight to finish our 15 fish limit. The DOA root beer holographic color was smoking hot today. By 11am we had our trout, so we anchored up on a wreck and picked up a couple of mangrove snapper; as we waited for the tide to get right for red fishing. With the tide ripping in we ran inside and bounced around some of the outside keys and picked up our red fish. It just doesn't get any better then today and I thank you guys for the outstanding Crystal River charter. Here is today's catch and look forward to our fall grouper trip...Capt. Dan

1/2 Day in Homosassa June 12th 2010

Today was day two for me at the Homosassa Fishing Club. I had the pleasure of having husband and wife teams on board and they were fantastic. Jim, Candi, Virgina and Kenny joined me for a 1/2 day Homosassa charter. We ran to the area that we did so well in yesterday, and in was fish on, soon as our lines hit the water. We were playing the numbers game to compete with the other guides ( Captains William Toney, Gary Cox, Mark Zorn ) and we totaled 82 fish before 11:30. Numerous trout, sea bass, grouper, grunts, lady fish, etc... all counted for our total. However, we ended up in second place while Capt. Mark Zorn took the prize with all most a hundred fish caught. Our boat ended up with a great catch of 8 keeper trout and 4 really nice sea bass to end our 1/2 day trip. A big thanks for a great couple of days and I'll see you next time. Here is the crew with a couple of today's trout.... Capt. Dan
