Another Crystal River Limit June 10th 2010

All I can say is that I'm very blessed to be as busy as I am, and the fishing is truly fantastic. I had a wonderful family out of Crystal River today and we loaded up on some quality offshore trout. Dennis, Mary Ann and Alex were ready to have something tug on there lines and I quickly obliged. We started our drifts in 8ft to 10ft of water, and my ever reliable DOA shrimp in the holographic watermelon color and a couple of white gulps put the trout in the boat. We also had a couple mackerel and a sea bass to add to the mix. After our angler trout limit we ran into the creeks to find a red fish but no takers today. We could see them, but they ignored our shrimp and cruised on by. Thanks to you all for another great day on the water and enjoy tonight's fish dinner... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Shore Lunch June 8th 2010

I have done several shore lunches with my fellow Homosassa Guide Association and Crystal River Fishing Company team mates, but today was my first solo shore lunch. I met Drake and Jim at Pete's Pier at 8am for a grandfather and grandson fishing memory. We had a busy morning, Drake kept count as we boated 31 fish including trout, mackerel, grouper, sea bass, lady fish and our favorite lizard fish. We kept a trout and mackerel for lunch and everything else was released to fight another day. We pulled up to little shell island at the mouth of the Crystal River and I got to work preparing a great shore lunch. The spread included: hush puppies, bacon, guava jelly, baked beans, cole slaw and fresh fish - my mentor Capt. Z would be proud! Jim and I sat around and talked while young Drake took a swim and cooled off. Thanks for a special day for me guys and I look forward to our next charter... Capt. Dan

Cobia Tournament June 6th 2010

I fished day two of the 26th annual cobia big fish tournament today with friends Jimmy, Jim and Sam. It was total madness when we left Macrae's at 7am. Over a hundred boats going down the Homosassa river is a sight. We made it safetly out the river and ran to a couple wrecks in 20ft. We caught a few grouper, but a nine pounder was the biggest one of the day. Yours truly had more break offs today than I'd like to admit. The seas were rough, so we were "very" limited to how far offshore we could run. Our final stop did produce a nice cobia, but not a tournament fish. Thanks guys for the good trip and look forward to doing it again next year. Here is Jimmy from Extreme Fishing Adventures with today's cobia... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout Day June 5th 2010

Today was day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club and the fishing was fantastic. I know by now your probably sick of my trout reports, but this is one of the best times of year to catch them. Today I had Von, Ed and Riley on board and the mixed bag action was fantastic. We counted over 13 different species today and had several keeper trout to add to the total. All but one was released to fight another day. We ran offshore even though it was a little rough; myself and Capt. Charlie Harris put the guys on a great day of fishing. As always thanks for the fun couple of days and here is Ed with one of today's trout that was released to fight another day... Capt. Dan

Late Trip Trout. June 4th 2010

We had an afternoon scheduled trip today at the Homosassa Fishing Club. Myself and Capt. Charlie Harris fished the Edward Spearman group for an outstanding evening charter. I had Ed, Von and Brad on board and the trout were in the mood for some DOA Deadly Combos. We had 10 keepers, but since the guys flew down, in was a catch and release trip. The wind was a steady 15mph out of the SW, so we stayed inshore and the 3ft flats was the hot zone. Capt. Charlie ran south to chase the tarpon, and had a several minute battle with a fish in the 70lb class. A couple jumps and the fish broke off, but that's half the fun of tarpon fishing. Thanks guys for the awesome evening trip and I'll see you again in the morning. Here is Von with a nice 21" trout... Capt. Dan

Trout Limit in no Time. June 3rd 2010

The trout were on the feed today! I met Ron and Chris at Pete's Pier at 8am for a full day Crystal River charter. We ran off shore to the 8ft grass flats once again, and the area was on fire. Trout after trout was the name on the game today. We had a steady SE wind that set up a perfect drift and the DOA shrimp in the holographic watermelon color was the go to bait today. We had our limit by 11:45 am and after our limit, we ran to the rocks and chummed up some beautiful mangrove snapper. It was a fantastic charter and thanks guys for the awesome time. Here is today's catch and look forward to our next charter... Capt. Dan

Summer Heat Trout June 1st 2010

I fished with my long time friend and old neighbor Darren out of Crystal River, to tackle some trout. We left Pete's Pier just after 7am to get the last of the outgoing tide. It was non stop trout after trout action for a couple hours (lots of shorts), and we had seven keepers to put in the cooler. The usual sharks, lady fish, sea bass, grouper etc... kept us busy in between all the trout. The root beer holographic DOA shrimp on a 1/8oz cal jig head was the bait of choice today. It was a hot one, so we did do some running and looking just to keep cool and found some great structure while doing so. Thanks for the great day ( and turning me on to Van Halen back in 85 ). Here is one of the gator trout we caught today... Capt. Dan
