Summer Heat Trout June 1st 2010

I fished with my long time friend and old neighbor Darren out of Crystal River, to tackle some trout. We left Pete's Pier just after 7am to get the last of the outgoing tide. It was non stop trout after trout action for a couple hours (lots of shorts), and we had seven keepers to put in the cooler. The usual sharks, lady fish, sea bass, grouper etc... kept us busy in between all the trout. The root beer holographic DOA shrimp on a 1/8oz cal jig head was the bait of choice today. It was a hot one, so we did do some running and looking just to keep cool and found some great structure while doing so. Thanks for the great day ( and turning me on to Van Halen back in 85 ). Here is one of the gator trout we caught today... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mixed Bag May 30th 2010

It was crazy with all the Memorial day weekend boaters, but we persisted and ran off shore to find a great mixed bag of fish. I had Evans and Thomas on board once again. We left Pete's Pier at 8am, and once we arrived to the 8ft grass flats the trout were chewin'. Evans put the first several keepers in the box. Thomas got his game face on, and quickly put hiskeepers in the box. A little competition is always a good thing. After our trout we anchored on a rock pile and caught a variety of mackerel, bluefish, snapper, grunts and to many sharks. It was a great day and Charlie from FWC was at the marina to measure our catch and ask questions to help with our future fishery. Thanks guys for the great time and here is today's catch... Capt. Dan

Hot Hot Hot May 28th 2010

The summer heat is here! I had a full day trip out of Crystal River and Brian, Erin and Ray joined me for an action packed day. We ran off shore to the deeper grass flats and we played the species game. The trout were biting well, and along with the trout we counted 14 different species to keep us busy. The DOA holographic watermelon shrimp is still producing very well right now. Brian had to come in early for an appoinment, but we ran back out in search of a redfish. No luck on the reds today, however, we did land a hefty sheepshead to add to the mix. Thanks for a great charter and here is today's catch... Capt. Dan

One of the Best May 27th 2010

One of the best days I've had on the water. I had the day off today and was in search of tarpon. I left Pete's Pier on the Crystal River, and just a little ways down the river I had tarpon rolling all around the boat. I had one hook up on a plug and lost it immediately (good jump though). I called Capt. Kyle Messier, who also had the day off, to tell him about the numerous fish I was seeing. So I picked him up down river, and we ran to another area that I have been seeing fish. Well let me tell you, it was unbelievable. Schools and schools of tarpon were all around us, and I put the fly right in the middle of them "several times", but unfortunately no hook ups. We estimated seeing well over fifty fish today and the majority of them we less than 30ft from the boat. It was a day to remember. The bull sharks were hot on there trail and one particular shark we saw was several hundred pounds. We left the tarpon, and fished one oyster bar on the way in; just to catch a trout real quick. Kyle's first cast was a hook up, and here is a nice trout caught on the fly...Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout and Macks May 25th 2010

Today was day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club. Richard and Sally joined me again, and after a great time yesterday, they were ready to go fishing. We had a busy morning before our 1pm shore lunch. Trout and mackerel made there way into the cooler, and the numerous ladyfish and sea bass kept the lines tight. Our shore lunch was fantastic and look forward to next years visit. Here is Richard and Sally with one of the trout and macks from today's charter... Capt. Dan

Homosassa First Time Trout May 24th 2010

Myself and Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt and Gary Cox fished the Homosassa Fishing club today for a 1/2 day charter and shore lunch. I had Sally and Richard on board, and we had a great morning. We caught a few keeper trout and mackerel, numerous short trout and a ton of ladyfish. It was Sallys first time to Homosassa and she did a fantastic job catching fish. All the boats averaged the same number of trout, but Capt. Z  brought in a nice cobia that fed us all for a great shore lunch. We just beat the rain in and another great Homosassa charter in the books. Thanks Richard and Sally for the good time and we'll see you all again tomorrow... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout Haul May 23rd 2010

The tout bite is as good as it gets right now. I met Jason, Brian and Kevin at Pete's Pier for a full day of targeting trout. We left the marina, and by 9:30 am we had 7 in the box. The last hour of the incoming tide was awesome. It did slow down like usual between tide changes, but once it started ripping out, the bite was on. The DOA holographic watermelon shrimp is tough to beat right now. The day total was 18 keeper trout, a couple sea bass and a mack. Thanks guys for the great charter and look forward to seeing you on the next trip... Capt. Dan
