P9290795I had a wonderful couple on board today, Martha Gale and Dick joined me for a fun day on the water. Leaving from their condo on the Crystal River, we spent the day catching some quality trout. We covered a lot of ground from the bars off the beach to the spotty bottom areas south of the bird rack. Using primarily holographic root beer DOA deadly combos and MirrOlure Lil' Johns were our trout baits of the day. We made a quick couple stops to find a red fish, but the tide was quite right and picked up a couple that were under slot, before we called it a day. Thank you both for a great time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

P9270793It was a tough one today to get the grouper bite going, but the inshore red fish saved the day. Vic and Bob joined me for a full day charter out of Crystal River and the guys fished hard. After such a great grouper trip yesterday, I knew today was going to be fantastic. Well, the grouper escaped us today and they had lock-jaw. We tried and tried and it just wasn't meant to be. So, for plan B, we ran back to the creeks and in short order, we had our red fish limit. A free lined live shrimp was irresistible to the red fish and we finished up the afternoon catching a few trout to keep the rods bent. Thank you both for a fun time and we'll get the grouper next time... Capt. Dan

P9260789Today is going to be a tough one to beat! Gary and Brad did outstanding catching their grouper and red fish limit on a Crystal River 1/2 day charter. We started the day trying to hook up with a snook, but no takers this morning. Our next stop was the pin fish traps to load up on bait and then target some shallow water grouper ledges. In just two quick stops the guys caught some beautiful gag grouper and with the tide rushing in, we were red fish bound. Running the mangrove shorelines and locating the mullet schools, we immediately hooked up with some beautiful slot sized redfish. The only down side to the day were the rain storms that caught up with us on the way back to the marina (we were soaked). Thank you both for a very fun morning and hope to see you soon... Capt. Dan

P9250785Red fish in the back country, trout on the flats and a little variety offshore jigging; made for an awesome day out of Crystal River. Dave, Kenny and Allen joined me for a full day charter and the guys did great. We began the day putting some quality trout in the boat using DOA deadly combos and the MirrOlure Lil' John combinations. It was tough conditions with no breeze, but we picked up a couple on each drift, along with some flounder, pompano and Spanish mackerel to add to the mix. Around noon we hit the creeks and the red fish were waiting. The guys in short order had a double digit red fish day and finish up up the afternoon adding seven more keeper trout to the cooler. Thanks guys for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

P9240783A good incoming tide, mullet schools over the rocks and a live shrimp; will just about guarantee a red fish hook up. Joe, Jonathan, Wilson and Bo experienced this first had today with me out of Crystal River. We left the marina, killed a little time catching a few trout while the tide was getting right, and then found our red fish schools. We boated 13 beautiful red fish, kept our limit and released all the rest unharmed. Using 4/0 circle hooks and a free lined live shrimp was the bait of the day. We picked up a couple more trout and chased the mackerel schools to fill out the afternoon. It was just about a perfect day as one could hope for and I thank you all very much. Here's the crew with today's catch... Capt. Dan

P9230781A fun tournament with the Florida Family Insurance group today. Myself and Captains William Toney, Rick Spratt and Jim Long were the hosts to show our guests a fun time out of Crystal River. We met our anglers at Pete's Pier at 8am and I was privileged to have Allen and Amanda on board for the day. We had and outstanding 1/2 day trip and we caught several red fish, pompano, numerous trout and some mackerel to make up our day. My boat had their limit of red fish and three keeper trout to bring back to the dock for a couple meals. Thank you all for a very fun time and look forward to next years trip... Capt. Dan

P9220778The red fish bite was nothing short of spectacular just south of Crystal River today. Jim, Jimmy and Michelle joined me out of Pete's Pier to a twenty fish red fish day. Working the out side keys and targeting the mullet schools, my crew caught a mixture of slot and under slot red fish. Free lined live shrimp was the hot bait today, but the larger fish came off some fresh cut lizard fish. After the red fish work out, we made a quick drift, caught several trout and 5 of them made it to the cooler. Thank you all for the very fun day and a happy birthday Jimmy... Capt. Dan

P9200776We just finished two outstanding days at the Homosassa Fishing Club. Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn and William Toney made it all happen. We fished the Livsey party to some early morning red fish limits, mid morning trout and finished up the day with a couple fantastic shore lunches. Leaving the dock just before 7am gave us a jump for the early tide red fish bite and a combination of cut mullet and lizard fish put them in the boat. The trout were caught on a mixture of DOA holographic root beer shrimp and the new hot bait, the MirrOlure Lil' John. Thanks to the entire group for a fun couple of days and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Back Offshore. Sept. 17th 2011

P9170769I had the Coleman family on board today out of Crystal River for some grouper digging. We left from Pete's Pier at 8am, made a quick stop at the pinfish traps and made our run offshore. It was a slow start to the day and actually, very few bites untill afternoon. However, when the fish turned on - it was on! Large schools of cobia were all around the boat and they guys immediately hooked up with a couple keepers and we released some under sized ones as well. Next, the grouper bite exploded and in short order, several hefty gags made their way in to the cooler. The last spot saved the day and my crew caught some real quality fish. Thank you all for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

P9160768The 2011 grouper season opened today and along with my good friends Tiger and Cade, the season started off great. Having not been to my offshore locations for close to 9 months, it was fun to check out my hot spots. We primarily fished in the 20ft range, caught a few keepers and then checked out some other areas. Live pinfish was the bait of choice and I thank you both for a great time... Capt. Dan
