Homosassa Two for One...
A different kind of charter today out of Homosassa and I ran a double. I picked up David, Brian and Kyle for my first part of the day charter and Tanner, Kyle and Austin for the afternoon. Targeting trout was our plan for the day and during the morning we did well inshore off St. Martins Key's on DOA deadly combos, while in the afternoon was great dragging MirrOlure Lil' Johns in the 10ft range offshore. The water is exceptionally clear in both locations and the only negative part of today's trip is the unbelievable amount of floating grass making a clean presentation to the fish a bit of a challenge. I thank both groups for the fun time, good laughs and look forward to seeing you all again in the future... Capt. Dan

Wyoming, Yellowstone & all streams in between...
All I can say is "unbelievable"! From the outstanding trout fishing, beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife; this vacation was exceptionally memorable. There is so much to talk about, but I'll pretty much sum up the NW, Wyoming fishing. I had the opportunity to fish a variety of waters for the past 10 days and we totaled over 1,400 miles in our rented SUV. Rivers, creeks and streams such as the Snake, Yellowstone, Greys, Granite, Crystal, Gros Venture, Cliff, Fire Hole, Madison and Gibbons to name a few, produced some outstanding fishing with the fine spotted or "snake river" cutthroat trout being the main targeted species. I did however, catch a mix of brown, rainbow, brook and a couple Yellowstone cutthroats to fill out the trip. The dry fly fishing was exceptional and patterns that I tied such as elk hair caddis, Letort hoppers, yellow sallies, march browns, olive and purple cone head buggers, were the top producing patterns. The norm out West is to use large, and I mean large, attractor dry fly patterns, but yours truly here used smaller flies in the size 12 to 18 range and totaled over 80 trout for the trip. (If you go West, don't be afraid to use smaller flies, especially on the heavily fished waters in Yellowstone). The larger trout came on the bugger patters in the deep pools and I actually broke off two large trout that were well in excess of 20", I'll get them next time. The town of Jackson was a lot of fun and the fine food and drinks topped it all off. I also want to send a big thank you to the Snake River Anglers fly shop in downtown Jackson, for all the great advice and making me feel very welcomed to their area. These guys know whats happening and out of several fly shops visited, there isn't another shop that compares to their expertise. I did quite a bit of home work where to fish on the wading rivers and it definitely paid off with great success. For the larger rivers, such as the snake, a float trip is a must and I ensure I'll do so on my next visit. Thank you again to all my new contacts and great family "especially my patient wife" for the fun time. Here's actually the last trout of the trip, a beautiful Yellowstone river cutthroat, that fell to a purple colored rabbit fur bugger... Capt. Dan

Crystal River No Breezzzze....
A tough one today for keepers out of Crystal River, but Gene, Linda and Michael had some good action for their 1/2 day trip. We left from Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and made our way offshore in hopes of some trout. Arriving at our first stop around 8 miles offshore, we were welcomed to absolute slick calm conditions and no breeze what so ever. If your familiar with trout fishing you know a good drift is needed to cover some ground and with these conditions, it makes it tough. With no breeze, we targeted a variety of grass patches on the outgoing tide and caught several trout, sea bass and lady fish, but only a couple keeper trout made their way in to the cooler. I thank you for giving it your all and here's Michael with a couple of today's trout ready for dinner... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Mixed Bag...
Another trip to the grouper grounds with Skip and Steven on board out of Homosassa and we caught a little variety. We began the day trying to make our run offshore, but it was quite rough for the first couple hours. We killed a little time drifting for trout and picked up a couple keepers and a few good sized sea bass. Finally, around 11am, the seas calmed and we made our run out to 25ft of water. The guys sent down some live pin fish and the rest was history. A couple keeper grouper and a nice catch to end the day. Thank you both for the fun time and enjoy the good eats... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore Red & Gag Grouper...
We made the offshore run once again today off Crystal River and we were surprised with a couple bonus red grouper added to our catch. Kendra and Clearance were on board for this full day offshore trip and this young couple did great turning some grouper. We hit the 35ft range today and sending down some live pin fish produced some nice keeper gags and a couple hefty red grouper. The red grouper are a treat and usually the keeper sized ones are found much deeper and it is a pleasant surprised to find them in the shallow water. We caught several shorts gags and broke off several brutes throughout the day and I thank you both for the great time. Here's Kendra with a beautiful red grouper from today's charter... Capt. Dan

Going Deep...
We made the run offshore again today and we found some nice gags in the 30ft range. Donna and George joined me today for a full day out of Crystal River and to be honest, it was pretty much a mirror image to yesterdays charter. Loading the live well with palm sized pin fish and anchoring up on the ledges, was a winning combination for the grouper. On the way in, we set up a couple drifts on the spotty bottom areas with root beer colored Lil' Johns and added a few trout to the mix. Another fine day offshore and I thank you both for the outstanding time. Here's the crew with their great catch... Capt. Dan

One of Those Days...
It was one of those magical days today in the gulf where everything comes together. We were able to turn the grouper away from their homes and the keeper trout cooperated in the same location where there were mostly shorts yesterday. Alan, Ron and Zack joined me out of Crystal River for a full day of grouper and trout fishing and we filled up the gas tank and made long run offshore. With ideal conditions, we ran almost 27 miles offshore to the 38ft range and we found some hefty gags. Live pin fish was the bait of choice and the guys did great catching some beautiful grouper. On the way in, we made several drifts over the spotty bottom areas and the keeper trout came alive today. You just never know what each day will bring. Thank you all for the great day and here's the crew with their catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Cobia & Grouper...
It was another hot one today offshore Homosassa and we caught a nice mixed bag of Cobia, grouper, sea bass and trout. Bill, Christy and Andy joined me today out of Macrae's and we were offshore bound to find some hard fighting grouper. We made a quick stop at the Bonnie the bait lady to fill the live well full of pin fish to start our day and our next stop was anchoring up on some ledges and fighting some grouper. The grouper action was good in the 17ft range and another nice cobia surprised us for an added bonus for our trip. While offshore we also tried for some deep water trout and caught quite a few, but only one keeper was added to the mix. I thank you all for the fun time and sticking it out in the hot conditions. Here's Christy with her first cobia and congratulations... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Grouper & Cobia...
It was a great feeling to anchor up once again, send down some live pin fish and watch the rods double over. Today was my first of many upcoming charters for the gag grouper season and Bill and Sheena started it off with a bang. I picked the couple up from their home on the river and started the day filling the live well with an assortment of frisky baits. Our next stop, was anchoring up on some shallow ledges and the grouper were on location waiting. We caught several gags and lost a few heavy weights that we just couldn't turn around in time; and they broke off. Bill had a good fish on and to our surprise a beautiful keeper cobia was on board as an added bonus. The offshore bite was the best today and our couple of stops inshore produced only a few fish with the extreme high flood tide. I thank you both very much for the fun day and always look forward to our future charters... Capt. Dan
