What a great trout bite in Homosassa to end the 2014 year. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club with my great friends Capts. Zorn, Long and Toney and we had the pleasure of fishing the O'Kelly/Green party. Ellis, Lynn and Bo were my guests and even though the tide was a bottom out low, we were able to connect with some trout. We didn't venture to far from the river and basically worked a small area of depressions using DOA deadly combo's rigged with MirrOlure Lil' John's. The trout action was great with lots of fish in the 14" range, but each drift produced some keepers as well. All the boats did excellent and it was a fantastic way to end the year... Capt. Dan

1/2 Day Sheep's...

A fun 1/2 day trip with Mike and LaBone on board for a couple hours and they ordered up some sheepshead. The team has caught them in the past on the East coast, but never over here. I kept it easy and fished some shallow ledges and a live shrimp on a knocker rig did the trick. The bite was very subtle today, but we got it dialed in and they starting coming on board. I thank you both for the fun time and look forward to seeing you in the future... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Offshore Day 2.

Day two fishing the Smith party out of the Homosassa Fishing Club and we trekked it offshore once again. There was not a ripple on the big pond and the conditions couldn't have been more favorable. Lately, "as you can tell," on the days when I can; I'm trying to get a consistent pattern with the offshore hog fish. Hog fish are common fair for spear-fisherman, but not really known all to well to be caught on hook and line. Well, I'm putting my home work in and catching more and more each trip. They are, the absolute best eating fish in the gulf which makes them so sought after. For today's trip, we fished the 25ft range and had some great action. Three hog fish came aboard, along with lots of grunts, sheepshead and some catch and release gag and red grouper. We pulled anchor just afternoon, and finished up the day with a fine Homossassa shore lunch. I thank you all for the great couple of days and here's Geno with one of our beautiful hog fish... Capt. Homosassa Offshore...

What a day to go offshore. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club fishing the Smith party with fellow Homosassa Guide Association Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, Johnathan Hamilton, Jody Johnson and Mike Baize. I had Matt, Robinson and Tom on board for the day and we headed West. I ran to some of my favorite high profile rocks in 12ft of water to check on the sheepshead. The sheepshead bite was excellent and we kept about a dozen on the first rock, before we ran to 22ft of water to add some other goodies to the mix. Once we anchored in 20ft of water, the action was awesome. Numerous grunts, keeper sized gags and a beautiful bonus hog fish filled out our afternoon. The guys had a blast and a box full of fish to show for it. I thank you all for the great day and here's Robinson with a beautiful Homosassa Hog Fish... Capt. Dan

River Reds...

A very good 1/2 day charter this morning with Eric and Josie on board and this father and daughter team did great. I picked up the family at the Plantation on Crystal River just after 8am, and we had fish on; right out of the gate. The jacks and lady fish were harassing the bait fish in the bay and we immediately had hooks ups. Always fun to pull on both species, but we left them and headed on down the river. I anchored on one of my favorite river rock piles in the river and the red fish were on fire. We caught numerous red fish with just a shrimp on a jig head. While most were shorts; we had some keeper sized too. To end the day, we topped off the trip with some fine sized sea bass on a shallow rock and then headed back to the dock. I thank you both for the great day and enjoy the rest of your vacation... Capt. Dan

It was blowing straight out of the south, but it brought the water in and we had a great afternoon red fish tide. I had Marty and Collin on board for an afternoon red fish trip and the father and son team did great. We jumped around from the North shore off Crystal River, to some of the oyster bars in the Salt River. We hit a couple spots with no fish and some with a few on them had some fine keepers to show for our efforts. Free lined live shrimp under a DOA deadly combo cork was the bait of the day and the guys had a great time. I thank you both and I look forward to seeing you in the future... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Sheep's...

Just about the last decent day according to the upcoming weather forecast, and I was glad to have the Noto family on board for a great Crystal River charter. We left the dock just a little before 9am and we made our way offshore. The fishing was quite good on all the area's we targeted ranging from rock piles and ledges. Live shrimp on a knocker rig worked great for the sheepshead, plus some bonus sea bass and grouper too. The team caught well over twenty keepers, but we didn't quite keep that many and released several throughout the day. I thank you all for the great time and I look forward to seeing you in the future... Capt. Dan

The great weather continues for us here in Citrus County and today, was another good one on the big pond. I had Cam and Justin on board for the day and the action was great. This charter was just about a mirror image as yesterday's trip, but I did run a bit farther offshore in search of some sheepshead. The sheepshead cooperated nicely and some good gags got us too. We wrapped up the trip with some trout and I can't thank you both enough for the great day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mix...

Trout, sea bass and sheepshead - oh my! It was a great one out there today for my guests, Jim and Bill. We left the dock at 9am and made our way offshore a bit to tackle some sheepshead. The sheepshead are definitely starting to fire up and we did well on just two different locations. Live shrimp on a knocker rig was what the sheepshead ordered and (some hefty sea bass too). With a good catch of sheep's and the tide turning just after noon; we made a quick run and jigged up some fine trout along a rock bar to top off the day. Watermelon red flake Lil'' John's were the hot bait for the trout. Good action and good times, I thank you both for the great day... Capt. Dan
