Fun in the "Woods"...

Just a fun day today with my good friend Capt. Randy Hodges while my big boats getting detailed and we went back in the "woods". I put the Silver King in the water and with the extremely low tide, headed South. We call the woods the back country of Ozello and it's always a fun time when we get to fish together. As many times as I've been going back there, I always learn something new. It's not easy fishing, but more like hunting and basically sight fishing. We caught some beautiful red fish, a couple nice trout and I even pulled out the fly rod. I hooked a nice red fish of the fly, but unfortunately the hook pulled - exciting all the same. I thank you bud for the great time and here's Randy with a fine Ozello red fish... Capt. Dan

I know you all have been seeing a lot of them, but the sheepshead action is sure hard to beat. Today, I had the please of having Dan, Christie, Jessica and Mike on board and this team did great. This was a first timers sheepshead trip and they definitely figured them out. I anchored on a couple ledges and the rest is history. Live shrimp on knocker rigs were the ticket and a couple gags and one hefty black drum; were the other species to fill out the day. I thank you all for the fun time and look forward to your future visits... Capt. Dan

Foggy Sunday....

The return of the sea fog...... Yes folks, it was back and thick as ever offshore. Billie and John were my guests today from the East side of the state and what a great catch they had. We loaded up from Pete's Pier Marina and began the day on a shallow rock bar, DOA jerk baiting some trout. The trout bite was pretty good, but while we were on the trout; the fog came rolling in. I knew it was going to be a slow ride offshore, so I zoomed in my tracks and we headed West. We eventually reached one of my favorite ledges and the sheepshead were on. Billie and John did great and what a outstanding catch of trout, sheepshead and even released a find gag grouper. I thank you both for a fun day and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River 1/2 day Mix....

A nice mix today with the Christie family on board and it turned out to be a beautiful day. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina, we had a little bit of fog to contend with, but it soon cleared. We picked up a fine keeper trout to start the day, but I was anxious to get offshore. The ledges and scattered rocks produced once again. Sevral hefty sheepshead, grunts and keeper sized gag grouper filled out the morning. The action was great and I thank you all for the excellent time. Here's Grayson and Todd with a fine father and son catch... Capt. Dan

Flat Calm Sheeps...

If you had a pair of water skies, you could have used them today for sure. Beautiful calm conditions offshore Crystal River and hungry sheepshead; Gary, Amel and Marv had a ball. I picked the guys up at Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and made our way offshore. I did pretty much the same pattern as I have been and fishing various ledges, isolated rocks and the sheepshead are still going strong. Live shrimp on a knocker rig is all that's needed for success. A couple early Spanish mackerel came aboard and a fun day was had by all. Thanks again for the great time and I look forward to seeing you soon... Capt. Dan

We went deep today to the 30ft range and it was truly amazing. Skip, Chuck and Dave were my guests for their annual winter sheepshead trip and they definitely had the weather for it. I've been so anxious to check some of my deeper high profile rocks offshore and today was the day to do it. Me and the guys headed West, anchored down and it was "ON". It's been a fantastic sheepshead season and today really raised the bar on big fish. We kept a two angler limit and released close to twenty other hefty sheepshead. Several grunts, grouper and a trigger fish were our other species and a what a great day we had. I thank you all for the fun time and congratulations on an outstanding catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Big Haul....

A great day out of Crystal River with Bob and Troy on board and they loaded up. With the full moon still hovering around, the sheepshead spawn is in full swing and we ran to some ledges to find a couple. I anchored up, baited the rods and it was ON! The action was unbelievable and one after another - the sheepshead were on the line. I kept as many as the guys wanted and released several others for the morning hours. We left the offshore grounds and made our way back EAST to jig up some trout. The trout bite took a bit to get going, but as the tide came; so did the trout. DOA glow cal shad tail jigs and bourbon Lil' Johns did the trick on the trout. It was truly an awesome day and I thank you both for the fun time. Enjoy all the fillets and I look forward to seeing you next time... Capt. Dan

Hard Wind in Homosassa....

It was a blowing today!!!! I had originally had Phil and his son Joe scheduled for a full day trip and with the small craft advisories, I cancelled the trip. However, they're here to fish and I wasn't going to disappoint them. Around 1pm, I said " let's meet at Macrae's, hit the creeks in the Little Homosassa River and give it a try ". It was whitecaps and foamy on the outside, but when we reached the back country, it wasn't to bad. I put the trolling motor down and we covered a bunch of water. MirrOdines, glow DOA jerk baits and assorted jigs put seven nice trout in the box and a couple red fish, with one in the mid slot range. We definitly saved the day and for the tough conditions and we did well. Thank you both for the great time and look forward to our future trips... Capt. Dan

Afternoon Trout...

A late afternoon trip with my great client Phil from Pennsylvania and we got on the trout. Phil met me at 1pm at Pete's Pier and we caught the incoming tide just right to find some trout. We were loaded with DOA cal shad tails and MirrOlure Lil' Johns and jigged the rock bars. The tide was absolutely perfect, and in less than an hour; we had our limit. I made a run to a ledge to add some sheepshead, but the water was like chocolate milk and we didn't have any takers. A beautiful afternoon and I thank you bud for the fun time. Here's Phil with the big trout of the day... Capt. Dan

Back Inshore...

Wow, I love this weather. Joe and Joanne were on board with me for the day and they did great. The couple met me at Pete's Pier and we made our way down the river. Tackling some trout was on order and we found them in a couple different areas. From the outer spoil islands and back country bays, the MirrOlure LIl' John's and MirrOdines did their job. We put a fine catch of keeper trout in the boat and I could only find a short red fish to go along with the trout. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and I look forward to seeing you both again soon...
