A great day at the Homosassa Fishing Club fishing the Carter party and I had Dave and Libby on board. We had a 12:30 shore lunch on schedule for the day, so we got as much fishing in as we could. The tide was good for some morning red fishing and we hit the keys, free lined some shrimp and the team put three nice slot red fish on ice. The tide soon dropped out and we gave trout fishing a try, but the bite was slow and we only produced three keepers. With 15 minutes left to fish, I hit a shallow cave I haven't been to in a while and we pulled a hefty 12lb gag grouper out of it. What an awesome fish to catch in 3ft of water and it sure was good at our shore lunch. A fun day with a good variety of fish in just a couple hours of fishing - I thank you both for the fun time... It was quite the day before the rain chased us in and the fish were in a " happy" mood. I had Brad, Greg and John on board for the day and we hit it just right. I stuck with what's been working lately and we trolled our way from spot to spot picking up a keeper gag on each location. Bunker colored Rapala x-rap 20's were the baits today and we even landed a 100lb Goliath grouper on one. It's not to common to pick up a Goliath grouper trolling, but when the rod goes off - you think you have king grouper I can assure you. The guys put their sixth fish on ice just as the rain was approaching and we headed back to the marina. A really good day and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Big Gags...

Well, the one's we landed today were big, but the four that took our plugs - who knows how big they were! A great and special day with my dear friends and clients Mishel, Earl and Jason and today was going to be trolling up some grouper. The gang and I left from Pete's Pier marina just before 8am and by 9am, we had our first 15lb grouper on ice. We covered a bunch of areas today and though the bite wasn't hot and heavy; the ones we did have were really big fish. On four occasions, the fish hit the Rapala x-raps, the drag went off and we just couldn't stop the fish from running back home. " That keeps us coming back though". We had three real nice keepers for our charter and plenty of grouper fingers will be on the dinner table. I thank you all for the good day and always enjoy our trips... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout...

I made the run to where I left the trout yesterday, and they were there again. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club with my good friends Captains Mark Zorn and Mike Baize and we fished the Wallace Party. I had Mike, Russel and Brent on board and these guy were in trout mode. We drifted the 3ft grass flats with DOA deadly combo cork rigs, MIrrO'lure Lil' Johns and DOA glow shrimp. The action was extremely good and there really wasn't a moment when someone didn't have a fish on their lines. We headed to the shore lunch island at 11:30, prepared a fine lunch and had the guys back in time to watch some afternoon football. A really good morning of fishing and I'm glad to see the trout action picking back up. Here's my crew with a fine catch... Capt. Dan

MWI Fishing Trip...

Another fantastic trip for the MWI Veterinarians group held out of the Best Western on Crystal River. Myself and fellow Captains Clay Shidler, Jonathan Hamilton, Randy Hodges, Rick Spratt, Steve Fussell and Don Chancey were the guides. I had the pleasure of having Kevin, Brady and Brandon on board and we trolled up an awesome limit of Grouper. The sea's were up a bit and we had to take our time moving around, but the gags were on the feed. We trolled just a couple locations and we had a fine limit of grouper. As we eased back towards shore, I made a long drift just off the keys and the team added a couple trout to the mix. The other boats all did great as well and everyone had another successful trip. Thank you all again for a great day and look forward to seeing you next year... Capt. Dan

Covering Ground...

Not a super hot bite today, but today's team did well and we covered some ground. Mike and Bob joined me for the day and they are new to the area and while we did some fishing; I pointed out some locations and techniques to get them catching fish on their own. We fished from the shallow kelp beds off the channel for trout, the rocks for grunts and snapper and topped off the trip trolling up a keeper gag. The wind and weather haven't been the best the last couple of days and I've canceled some trips; but today was a big improvement. Fall was definitely in the air today and it's going to be a great fall season. I thank you both for a fun day and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Trolling Gags & Red Fish....

We beat the rain back at the dock just by minutes today and the morning action was "AWESOME". Don and Mike joined me today out of Crystal River and we left Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am. I had the trolling rods ready and usually by the 20th of September if the floating grass isn't to bad - it's time to troll. "My favorite way to target gags". We set out the plugs and worked various hard bottom areas and did very well. The first fish was a hefty 17lber and the others were good quality gags. After the guys trolled up their limit, I ran to the back country and free lined some live shrimp to add some red fish to the mix. A great day and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

It has been a fun week fishing the Maddox party at the Homosassa Fishing Club and sadly, today was the last day. John and John were on board with me for the day and we hit a couple spots for red fish to get the day going. We found a keeper and a couple shorts, but I really wanted to find at least one more grouper for the guys to take home. I made a short run to a shallow ledge, anchored up and chummed with some thread fins. It took a little while and the bite was slow to get going. Finally, the grouper woke up and we had a break off, a couple shorts "a surprising red grouper" and a fine keeper gag before we had to be back at the dock at noon. A great couple days and I look forward to seeing you all next year... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Grouper....

The day to go offshore!!! Wow, it was like a lake out there today and Joihn and Carter caught some beautiful grouper. The guys and I made the run to about 15ft of water and anchored up on one of my favorite rocks. I began chumming, sent down some thread fin herring and the bite was on. The team caught a fine limit of gag grouper, some tasty mangrove snapper and grunts for the day. I made a drift for some trout on the way in and we caught several shorts, but John came up with the only keeper. Still, we had an awesome day and congratulations on the outstanding catch... Capt. A really good day out of the Homosassa Fishing Club with Dr. Coco and John for a day of battling grouper and red fish. Today's trip began targeting red fish on the outer keys using a combination of cut lady fish, pin fish and live shrimp. The red fish bite was good and the guys caught five nice keepers and a few shorts for the morning hours. As the tide dropped out, I made a run to a ledge in 11ft of water and put out a spread of thread fin herring for some grouper. It didn't take long and we were battling some heavy weight gags and the guys did awesome. A fun day and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan
