Tough Week...

It's been a tough week weather wise for me to make it out. Monday was good fishing on the sheepshead grounds, but the dense fog was horrible and I canceled Tuesday due to the same conditions. The rest of the week called for rain and high winds, so I canceled both of those days and that brings us to today. Well, today was supposed to be pretty good and it was in that the sun finally came out. However, the wind was howling out of the NE and didn't let much water to come in and it was to rough to go offshore. I had Allen and Ken on board for the day and we gave it our all. I covered from the North to the South of Crystal Bay and all points in between for only one keeper trout. I don't know what was happening; but it was a tough one for sure. We did finish the day in the river and caught several mangrove snapper to end the day for some action. I thank you both for a good time and we'll hit it right next time... Capt. Dan

Dense Fog Sheep's...

Some of the worst fog I've experienced on today's Crystal River Charter and it was a LONG wet ride. Henry, Tom and Larry were with me for the day and once again the winter sheepshead were the plan of the day. I did basically what I've been doing on my recent charters and jumping spot to spot and catching a couple on each location. The fog kept us on our toes, but we hung in there and had a nice catch. I thank you all for the good day and look forward to our future trips... Capt. Dan

Good to be Out Sheep's...

Good to be back on the big pond and what a week of blustery winter weather. Today though was as beautiful as it gets and Don and Mike had a good time. We stayed offshore for the day and with the gulf in the mid 50's, sheepshead were going to be our only option for steady action. We fished several hard bottom areas and did well while taking a couple on each spot. The middle part of the day was slow with the hard running tide; but as the tide slowed the bite picked back up. We finished with a nice catch of sheepshead and I thank you both for a great day. Also I want to let you all know Sunday February 22nd, the Homosassa Guides Association will be hosting our annual fund raiser fish fry at Macrae's in Homosassa. We will begin serving around noon, it's $8.00 a plate and will have a raffle with some nice items to win. The group also donates some of the proceeds to local charities and the Homosasssa Learning Center. Hope to see you all there... Capt. Dan

Making the Best of It...

Well..... Old man winter is hanging around for sure and it's been pretty cold for us. Lows in the 30's and 20's and gusty 20 plus mph winds the last couple of days have made it impossible to get the charters in. I apologize to you all that I've had to cancel, but it's just worth going out. I've been making the best of it though; tying flies and filling my fly box for the upcoming tarpon season. May will be here before we know it and I'll be ready for hopefully a very successful tarpon season. Let's hope for some more favorable weather and I'll see you soon... Capt. Dan

Ocala Outdoor Expo...

I want to thank everyone that turned out for the Ocala Outdoor Expo this weekend that was held at the Livestock Pavilion in Ocala. Myself and a couple members from the Homosassa Guides Association had a nice display and met some great people. Hunting and fishing trips, boats displays and outdoor gear - it was a fun weekend. We look forward to seeing some of you all on board and save the date for next year. March 5th & 6th... Capt. Dan

Rough, One Stop Sheepshead...

Hello folks, well yesterday was lots of porgies and a few sheepshead down south and the bite has slowed a bit up North; so today we ran West. NOAA was calling for the winds to increase, so we went for it all and ran to a rock in 17ft of water I haven't been to in quite some time. Bart, Shane and Danny were with me for the day and it was a bumpy ride, but we eventually reached our destination. My plan was to just stay on the one spot as long as we could before the weather turned and see what we could do. The sheephead were there and they hit in spurts throughout the morning. The team did well and just after noon, the sea's were getting rough so we called it a day. I thank you all for the good time and I look forward to seeing you all again soon... Capt. Dan

South Sheep's...

Today my great client's Bill, Jerry and Mel were on board with me for this chilly February day. We left Pete's Pier at 9am and stopped in the bay to catch a couple mangrove snapper until the breezy NE wind calmed some. The snapper were biting right away, but mostly little ones with a couple keepers to get the day going. I could see the wind was laying down, so we made our run offshore. Heading to the south was the plan today and we caught fish, but "my goodness" the porgies were eating us alive on a couple stops. On the last stop of the day, the sheepshead cooperated and put some keepers on ice to go with the mix we picked up along the way. I always enjoy having you guys on board and thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Always a fun time with the Worthington family and we were able to catch come nice sheepshead before the rain came in. I met the guys at 9am at Pete's Pier and made our way to 15ft of water. The sea's were calm, but I knew we only had a couple hours before we had to head back East. The sheepshead were nibbling pretty good today and the hook pulled out on quite a few for us. Still, a good couple hours of fishing and I thank you all for the great time... Capt. Dan

Grunt Land & Hogs...

Another beautiful day to go offshore and today's plan with Phil was to try to catch a hog fish and load up on some tasty grunts. We ran offshore to some live bottom in 25ft of water and the bite was on. Every single drop down with a shrimp produced a fish. We went through over 200 shrimp and the grunts were non stop action. When the grunts slowed some, the hog fish moved in and we put three nice hog fish on ice. The grouper action was excellent as well and we released many, many gags and a couple red grouper too. I thank you Phil for two great day of fishing and enjoy all the fish back home... Capt. Dan
