Crystal River Reds...

A fun day out of Crystal River with Bob and John and with the conditions the way they were; it was a great day to target red fish. I met the guys at Pete's Pier at 8am and we arrived at the mouth of the river to an incoming tide. The wind was up a bit out of the West and I knew it would bring the tide in a hurry. The team and I jumped point to point freelining live shrimp and did very well on red fish. Looking for mullet activity was the key to success and they guys did great. I thank you both for the fun day and I look forward to next time... Capt .Dan

Back Inshore!!!

The first day back to inshore fishing after a long tarpon season run. I had the pleasure of having Jason and Deanna on board and for today's trip, we found some fine Crystal River red fish. The incoming tide was perfect for red fishing, so we hit the back country in the Salt River area and did awesome. The couple caught a fine limit of red fish on free lined live shrimp and a couple mangrove snapper and trout as well. To cool off, we spent the afternoon and Sandy Hook to relax and enjoy the afternoon. Great job today and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Little Guy...

We had to get creative to get out of the wind today, but Joe and I found some tarpon inside and made it happen. The conditions made it tough to fish the outside and when the wind is up, tarpon generally stay down and make it difficult to see them. So for plan B, we ran in the canal and found some happy "little guys" to save the day. Joe and I were loaded with DOA bait busters and had some really good action. We went one for eight on tarpon and we landed a fun sized tarpon to make the day. It's always a pleasure fishing with you and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Couple days Left...

Just a couple days left for me in the 2015 tarpon season and today we brought another one boat side. The last two days have been tough and we've only seen a handful of fish. Today luckily, as the tide changed, we saw a couple fish rolling and we were able to present a DOA bait buster quickly and immediately hooked up. I had Todd on board for today's trip and he did awesome. He caught his first tarpon, fought it beautifully and we gave her a safe release.... Capt. Dan

Another Good Day...

Another excellent day with my bride as she requested this Fathers day weekend for me to take off and to do some fishing herself. Well she did and Becky did outstanding. She jumped two tarpon and brought one boat side. She wouldn't let me help her and in 40 minutes, she rolled it over and I was able to grab it and secure it for a picture. We took some pictures and she got to hold her fish for a great photo and safe release. The numbers of fish are definitely lowering as the majority of the fish migrate North. I hope for a couple more tarpon this week and grouper season opens next Wednesday... Capt. Dan

To the Boat...

I had my scheduled charter cancel late last night, so for today I had the pleasure of taking my wife out and having some family day tarpon. I truly enjoy the passion of targeting these fish and even when I have the opportunity for a day off; I still have to go out for a couple hours. We left the dock around 8am and found some fish rolling. The floating grass was to bad to use the fly rod, so we opted to use DOA bait busters. A couple cast later, Becky jumped one and I was hooked up for a very memorable fight. I was actually lucky enough to bring this fish boat side for a couple pictures and a safe release. A great day and "wow" it's hot out there right now... Capt. Dan

Jumping Tarpon....

The tarpon action is still going steady and jumping a fish on the fly the last couple days in a row. We've been getting a couple jumps out of them, before they spit the hook or chew through the 60lb bite tippet. Sorry, no pictures they've been on and off so quick. However, I did take a neat picture on the way in coming across the flats off Homosassa. I passed over one of my shallow water grouper cracks and found several nurse sharks hovering around the hole. This was a cool sight and we counted 17 of them total. Only a couple more weeks of tarpon season and then the grouper action begins... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Mix...

An awesome day with my great guide friends William Toney and Mark Zorn and we fished the Manriki party out of Macrae's. We each had three anglers per boat and did great. Mix bag catches on the shallow rocks filled out most of the day, with a couple red fish and trout to add to the days 1/2 day charter. The mangrove snapper fishing was excellent and if you get a chance, send down some live shrimp around the rocks piles and you'll catch some fine eating fish... Capt. Dan

Robinson's 1st Tarpon....

Today was one of the most special days I've spent on the water in my guiding career. I had young Robinson Smith "13yrs old" on board for day two from Atlanta and this young man has it!!!! Robinson is one of the most accomplished fly fisherman I've ever known and he can cast accurately/effortlessly at 70ft with ease. "Quite impressive". Today was his day as he placed the fly perfectly in front of a laid up tarpon twice his size, fought him for over two hours, leader touched several times and the hook eventually pulled out. Robinson gave that fish everything he had and it was a pleasure watching this young man go. Congratulations my man and an awesome job for your first tarpon.....Capt. Dan
