Spain Family...

A really fun day with the Spain family and we did a little bit of everything. The day started on the rock piles catching some groceries for the family with some sheepshead, grunts and Spanish mackerel. Scott the dad had never caught a grouper and mentioned the night before we fished, if he could catch one. Well, that was no problem at all, as I pulled up to a shallow rock and we made six cast and produced six gags all of keeper size to be released. The day ended with a couple snook and I thank you all for the fun day... Capt. Dan

Good Weather, Hot Action....

FINALLY!!! Yes folks, we finally got a break in the weather and it sure was a beautiful day. I haven't been able to make it offshore in three weeks from the winds and rough seas, but today Fred and Bill had it as good as it gets. We set up on the rocks and had non-stop action all day. The usual reef species kept us busy and the guys had an awesome catch. The last couple days I've serviced the boats and trailers - come on spring I'm ready... Capt. Dan

Offshore Fun....

Another terrific day offshore with Mark and Tono on board and they did fantastic. I pushed on out to 40ft of water again and it was really good. A mixed bag of all the goodies and we stayed busy all day. Some real quality snapper was the big highlight of the day and I thank you both.... Capt. Dan

Offshore Mix...

What a beautiful day to go offshore and on this trip we pushed on out to just about 40 feet of water. Curt, Mark and Josh were my guys and they definitely stayed busy. Lots of action with snapper, grunts, hog fish and sheepsheaed filled out their day. I bet we caught over 20 hog fish, but only two keepers over the new 14" regulation mark. Great job guys and I thank you.... Capt. Dan

Offshore Goodness....

A really good offshore trip today with the Barlow family and we sure did great. I did fish yesterday with Tony and Amber and did good on grunts, a couple sheepshead and released a bunch of gags. Today though, was pretty on and we had some good action. It seems like the 30ft mark is where the fish are if you want to bend the rods, as the gulf is still in the mid to upper 50's. You have to have the weather, but when its favorable it really is good. The team today had a terrific mixed bag and I thank you all... Capt. Dan

Birthday Snapper...

Being my birthday today, I had my traditional crew of the last four years, Ian, Michelle and Jeff on board. Once again we had calm conditions, so we made the 20 plus mile ride offshore and really did great. The snapper didn't really bite well yesterday, but today was a different story. On just one rock we boated 20 keepers, plus numerous gags and grunts. The only down side was the dense wet sea fog and it made for a very long wet ride home. Still a great day and awesome job as always.... Capt. Dan

Crazy Gags and Mix...

Terrific action for us today and Harry and Mike had a busy day. I love my grouper and always glad to pull on a couple, but my goodness we just couldn't get past them to the hogfish and snapper. We must of literally released over 75 grouper today and broke off well over 20 - "lots of retying". A couple nice hog fish mad their way on board, but the bigger mango's were lock-jawed, as we only had shorts for the day. I thank you all a great job on turning those grouper on light tackle... Capt. Back up and Running....

Hello everyone, I know it's been a while but I'm back up and running and it sure was good to be back out today. The Young Boats restoration team did a tremendous job fixing my boat from the accident, and it looks good as new. For today's trip, I had Jason and Frank on board and we did something a little bit different. I took the guys down South in the 30ft range and we targeted mangrove snapper. I have to have the right conditions to do this and today is was perfect. Calm sea's and free lined live shrimp on a 1/8th oz jig head did the trick for us. We boated some beautiful snapper, released numerous gags and so many grunts I lost count. I thank you both and great job.... Capt. Dan

All good things must come to an end and today was the last day of the 2019 gag grouper season. It has been a tremendous year and I thank you all that have fished with me. As many of you know shallow water grouper fishing is my passion and especially for the months of September - December, this is my main targeted species. Dennis was my guest today to wrap up the season and unfortunately the weather was not very favorable. Dennis is my bass fishing guide I use and he is one of the best in the area; also he was awarded in the top 5 in trophy catches in the state. Back to today, a cold front came through last night and turned the seas up pretty good. However, I still had a little ledge I keep in my hip pocket and we secured his grouper dinners. Rapala F-18's in the fire-tiger color was the deal, trolled behind the boat. Great job Dennis and WHAT A SEASON.!!!... Capt. Dan

Casting Gags...

Today I was fortunate to spend the day with "my coach," Matt Fleming. Matt is the original commander of Yankeetown and was on the Marine Patrol in our area for decades. Matt was instrumental to me years ago in showing me the ins and outs of tarpon fishing and other tricks of the trade. Well, today it was my treat for him to be on the bow and we stayed real shallow and hit some of my shallow honey holes I pretty much leave alone most of the year. The grouper didn't disappoint us and in basically five feet of water, we had double digit gags and all casting Rapala plugs. A couple whopper sea bass also hit the plugs and we called it a day. I thank you buddy for everything and great job today... Capt. Dan
