Offshore Trout...

Always a fun day with Joe, Deanna and Rich and today we spent the day offshore jigging up some trout. I made a run to the 8ft range with some spotty bottom and we did well. Loaded with MirrOlure Lil Johns, we caught several fine keepers trout, grouper, Spanish mackerel and other odds and ends for the day. Bourbon was the hot color today and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Spring Trout...

Another beautiful day on the big pond with Lauren, Gary and Dan and the team had an excellent trip. I began the day on the 2.3 ft tide we had in the morning in hopes of red fishing, but it was NOT happening. After several stops and nothing, we headed to the flats and got on the trout. We fished DOA jerk baits in the shallow areas and MirrOlure Lil' Johns a bit offshore in the 7ft range. The guys caught a little variety with some grouper, sea bass and mackerel to fill out the afternoon. I really enjoy my days with you all and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Operation Outdoor Freedom....

A very special day for myself and several other members of the Homosassa Guides Association, as we had the honor of fishing the wounded warriors today. This was a great day and we ensured a great time to make a memorable day for them and their families. Fishing was a bit tough, but we all caught a mix of trout, flounder, Spanish mackerel, pompano and sheepshead. The team and I prepared an outstanding shore lunch and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day and thank you all for what you have done for us. We look forward to next year... Capt. Dan

2015 Closing Day...

What a way to end the 2015 year. This year has been fantastic and for all of you that have fished with me and follow my daily posts, I thank you. For the last day of 2015, I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club with my great friends Capts. Mark Zorn, William Toney and Rick Spratt fishing the Waits party. All of us today did well on the continuing hot trout bite and some other bonus fish such as pompano, sea bass, jacks and mackerel filled out our day as well. It looks like we have one or two more days of nice weather and next week may be windy for the beginning of the week. I wish you all a Happy New Year and great job today team... Capt. Dan

Spring, Winter Trout...

You wouldn't know it's almost January with the weather lately, and it sure has the fish in a different pattern then years past. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today fishing the Smith party and the guys did great. I began the day on the out going tide using DOA glow jerk baits targeting trout. I was on the flats where we usually fish in the Spring time of year and the action was great. If you're looking for trout right now and if you see the pelicans diving off the keys; you'll be in the right area. The guys had their trout fix and we ran to a couple rock piles to fill out the afternoon with a mixed catch. A beautiful day and I thank you all for the great time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River on the Rocks...

Well, Christmas vacation is over and it was back to work today. On today's Crystal River charter, I had Sasha and his family visiting from Russia on board. The trip was just a 1/2 day charter, so I kept it simple and ran to some rock piles and caught a mixed bag. Grunts, sea bass, grouper, mackerel.... etc, kept us busy all morning long. The team didn't speak a lot of English, but we had a fun time and I learned to say yes, no and Vodka in Russian. We had a great catch and called it a day just after noon. Thank you all and enjoy all the fresh fish... Capt. Dan

Special Day...

A special Christams present I was able to give today and take my good friends son Colton out on the water. I have taken the Christmas week off for some family time, but today's schedule allowed me to make a special trip. I've been promising Colton for years to get him out and today's trip out of Crystal River was awesome. He and I jigged up some nice trout and pompano on MirrOlure Lil' Johns to get the day going. In just over an hour, we had a nice catch of both species and then we ran to a rock pile for some sheepshead. The sheepshead were biting right away and we caught quite a few before the approaching rain chased us in. I think I had just as much fun as you did and great job buddy... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Late Trip...

A late afternoon trip out of Homosassa today with the Shelton party and the team caught'em quick. We left the dock at 1:30 pm and fished until 4:30pm. I tied on some glow DOA jerk baits and on the very low tide, made a long drift on the flats off the keys. We picked up fourteen nice trout along and along, and we even made a quick stop and caught a couple red fish. A very busy afternoon trip and I thank you all for the great time... Capt. Dan

In the Kelp...

Another great day on the flats off Crystal River with Joe, Joyce and Lyle and what a great mixed bag they had. We targeted the inshore kelp grass patches in the 3ft to 5ft range today for our success. We eased along little by little and caught quite a nice variety. One cast was a trout, the next a sea bass, a pompano etc... it was fun. The day was overcast and dreary, but the fish cooperated nicely. I thoroughly enjoyed our Crystal River charter and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Breezy Trout...

A steady South wind was with us for today on the flats off Crystal River and Bill, Karen and Jim did fantastic. Targeting trout was the plan for the day and with the tides the way they were, it was our best option. I rigged up some DOA deadly combos and Jim's jig heads with MirrOlure Lil' Johns and the bite was on. We had some of the best trout action I've seen in a while, although most were under slot fish - it was a fish every cast for quite a while. The team hung in there and added several keepers to the cooler before we had to end the day. A fun time as always and I thank you for the great day... Capt. Dan
