Crystal River Hot to Trout!!!
A fantastic day just offshore Crystal River and Mel and Jerry hit it out of the park. I met the guys at 8am at Pete's Pier Marina and we made our way to the trout grounds. It was a little breezy to make the initial run, so we tried the shallow area's; but had very little success. The winds calmed around 10am and we made our run offshore. In two quick drifts the guys had their limit of quality sized trout and bourbon colored Lil' John's were the bait of choice. After the excellent trout bite, we anchored on one of my favorite rock piles and added a few mangrove snapper and sea bass to top off the charter. What an excellent day and i can't thank you all enough. Here's Jerry and Mel with their fine catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Icy, Cold and LOW WATER!!!!
Yes folks, there was Ice on the boat until 10am today, but we made the best of it and had a fun day. Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association members Mark Zorn, William Toney and Gary Cox had the pleasure of fishing the Homosassa Fishing Club members out of Crystal River for this chilly December day. I had Bo, Brant and Ashley on board and we covered the all the basis from the river to the gulf. Through out the morning, we had great action in the river with mangrove snapper, trout and lady fish, but the table fair species were all on the short side. The wind was quite strong until noon time, so after noon, we made a quick dash to a shallow ledge and loaded up on the ever reliable tasty sea bass. My crew put 13 nice keepers in the cooler to secure our shore lunch for tomorrow. The other captains had a nice assortment of mangrove snapper, sheepshead and a red fish and trout to total our trip. Capt. Zorn won the prize with most keepers with 15 and yours truly just fell shy with 14 to take second place. I thank you all for the fun time and we'll see you tomorrow. Here's Ashley with one of our sea bass from today's Crystal River charter... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Calm Seas...
You could have taken a canoe offshore Crystal River today. Rob and Keith we on board and these gentlemen had a great Crystal River fishing charter. We began the day jigging up some trout on the bars with new penny MirrOlure Lil' Johns and the trout bite was pretty good. As a pleasant surprise, we caught a hard fighting bonito to add some excitement to the mix. The gulf calmed to a mirror flat surface around noon, so we made our run offshore and caught the usual mixed bag of goodies. it was a picture perfect day and I thank you both for the fun time. Here's the guys with a fine mixed bag... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Family Fun...
A mixed bag day for our Crystal River 1/2 day charter and I had the pleasure of having the Hamrick family on board. We met at Pete's Pier this morning to cloudy, chilly conditions and began the morning targeting trout in the shallow kelp beds in Salt River. The trout action was pretty good, but we had to catch them quick, due to the rapid out going tide and avoid getting "stuck"! We put a couple keepers in the cooler and released several others before we returned to the river. The skies finally cleared, the sun was shining and some more fish were brought aboard. Mangrove snapper, red fish and black drum filled out the rest our charter and I thank you all for the great day. Here's Tommy with a Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

Another Windy Cold Front...
Yes folks, another windy cold front is coming through the area and it limited my range on where I could fish today. I had Bill on board for a 1/2 day Crystal River charter and we stayed in the river, to make the best of a windy situation. We began today's charter targeting snook and had some success boating six beautiful snook to start our day. We used yo-zuri 3D minnows in the green back and white color combinations to land our snook. Our next species was some tasty mangrove snapper. Fishing some springs and rock ledges with free lined live shrimp, we caught or limit of legal snapper to add to the mix. We didn't trout or red fish today due to the conditions, but we made the best it and had a great time. I thank you Bill and look forward to fishing again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River "North Wind & CHOPPY"...
Choppy and rough conditions today off Crystal River and did I ever earn today's catch. Scott and Clay were on board for the day and the morning grouper bite started off great. The first couple passes trolling produced a few grouper, but they were all just under the 22" minimum. The rest of the morning got tough and the conditions were very challenging. I'll put it this way - we didn't have a fish in the cooler until 12:30pm. Finally the grouper turned on for a few minutes and the guys put three real nice 10lbers on ice. The fourth one just wasn't meant for us today, so we anchored up on a rock pile and added a few more groceries to the cooler. I thank you both for the hard efforts and you guys did great with the less than favorable conditions. Enjoy all the fish... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore Excellence!!!
When the weathers allows me to get offshore in October, the fishing is usually as good as it gets. This is exactly what Merrill, Lou and Dan experienced this fine day off Crystal River. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina and we were ready to troll up some gags. We targeted ledges, rocks and wrecks and all these areas had some very nice keeper sized grouper on them; plus we lost a couple too. Fire tiger, orange and blue mackerel colored Rapala and Yo-Zuri plugs were the top producers today and there was very little floating grass to deal with. Leaving the grouper, we anchored up on a rock pile and caught a multitude of species. The action was non stop and the big and "pleasant" surprise, was hooking into five beautiful pompano to add to our catch. What a perfect day and congratulations on your outstanding catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Big Haul...
I think we had almost everything we could offer today except red fish; but I'm confident we would have had a few, if the tide was in our favor. Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt and Jody Johnson were at the Homosassa Fishing Club and we had the Turman party on board for the next couple of days. Randy, George and Jimmy were on board with me for the day and the morning trout bite was great. We drifted the shallow hard bottom areas with kelp grass and had nine beautiful Homosassa trout to start our morning. The tide was slowing up, so my crew and I ran to the shallow rock piles and caught a mixed variety. Grouper, sea bass, grunts and mangrove snapper kept us busy throughout the afternoon and it was just a fun day to be on the water. I thank the entire group for an outstanding day and here's our end of the day shot... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trolling Gags ....
A little choppy today offshore, but Jim and Terry were ready to give some Crystal River grouper trolling a try. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina this morning and made our way offshore to about the 28ft range. We sent down the plugs over some hard bottom ledges and found some nice grouper. The hot color plugs for the day were the bunker and chartreuse and silver Rapala x-rap 20's. We caught our four gags pretty quick and stopped on a rock pile pile to catch a little variety of species. Mangrove snapper, mackerel and grunts were keeping us busy and a live shrimp on a 1/8thoz Hank Brown jig head was the bait of choice. I thank you both for the great day and enjoy all the fish... Crystal River Double Digit Reds....
A perfect morning red fish tide and Bill, Joe and Mel experienced some fine red fishing. I picked the guys up from Pete's Pier Marina at 8am and we made our run North to get an early jump on the incoming tide. We targeted the rocky points with mullet activity and presented live shrimp to find our red fish. We caught several under slot red fish throughout the charter and I always enjoy seeing a good crop of upcoming red fish for the coming years; to go along with the keepers. Following the tide South, we caught a couple more nice red fish until the tide topped out. The trout bite was slow once again, but once the sea breeze kicked in and the tide turned, we had some action. Only one keeper made its way to the cooler, but several shorts kept us busy to end our afternoon. A couple mixed catches of mackerel, snapper and black drum were added to the cooler and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan
