Crystal River, Rough & Tough....

Written by
Some day's are better than others, but today sure was a tough one. Mark joined me today out of Pete's Pier Marina and leaving the dock, the West breeze was already greeting us. We ran out the back way down the salt river to avoid as much chop as possible. Once we reached the open gulf, I knew that running offshore to where the majority of the fish are was not going to happen. So, we made the best of it and began drifting the shallow flats picking up a handful of keeper trout. The bite was quite slow and really only a few short trout were caught as well. The few trout we did catch were on bourbon Lil Johns and glow DOA jerk baits. We had a good time even though the catch was down and I'll look forward to fishing with you again in the near future...
