Homosassa Slow Reds, Hot Trout...
The red fish bite was tough today on the points out of Homosassa, but the inshore trout bite was fantastic. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today with Captains Mark Zorn and William Toney and today's group was great. I had Doug and Darren on board and we put our time in looking for red fish, but only came up with one keeper and a under slot to show for our efforts. For a change of pace we surrendered to the uncooperative red fish, and found some great trout action off St. Martin's Keys. Using DOA holographic watermelon shrimp, my crew had their limit of trout and released a few others. It was a picture perfect day day and I thank you guys for the fun time. Here's Darren and Doug with their catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River 1/2 Day Reds....
Great to be back at the office! The weather is finally back on schedule and the red fish were waiting. Mel, Vic and Bob joined me today for a 1/2 day charter out of Crystal River and the guys had some great red fishing action. A perfect incoming tide, free lined live shrimp around the points and bent rods with beautiful red fish - what a great morning. We totaled seven reds for our trip, with a couple trout mixed in and I thank you all for a fun time. Here's today's crew with their catch... Capt. Dan

A Big Thank You!!!
I just received my Best of the Best award for honorable mention in the readers choice awards for Citrus Country. For all of you who took the time to vote for me, I send a big thank you and I couldn't do this with out your support. On another note, not to much is happening with the recent tropical storm conditions. Once the weather breaks, we'll be back on the water keeping you up to date on what's happening in the fishing world... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Morning Trout & Afternoon Shore Lunch..
It was day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club and Bob. Jim and Rob requested me again for another great day on the water. We had an afternoon shore lunch on order, so we hit flats until noon and fixed a great lunch to end the day. The the trout action was quite good with a lot of under slot trout keeping the rods bent, but a few nice keepers also made their way on board. Using primarily root beer colored MirrOlure Lil' Johns, under a DOA deadly combo oval cork was the top producer. Our afternoon lunch was great and we beat the rain in with plenty of time. Thanks to the entire group for a fun two days and look forward to seeing you again next time... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout, Reds and Rain...
Back to the Hommosassa Fishing Club today with fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn and William Toney and we had a very fun group today. I had on board Bob, Jim and Rob and these gentlemen were from Alabama and ready to experience some fine Homosassa fishing. We targeted trout for the majority of the day, and we caught a bunch of trout. The only problem was, I was cursed with under slot trout; and we only had a hand full of keepers to show for our efforts. The action was great but for a change of plans, I suggested giving red fishing a try and it was a great decision. We fished a couple of points and caught half a dozen beautiful red fish, but the rain got us on the way in. Thank you guys for the great day and here's my crew with some of today's red fish... Capt. Trouting in the Wind...
Another breezy day on the flats out of Crystal River and Mark Sr. and Mark Jr. were ready to give it a try. I picked the guys up from their home on the Crystal River and we were off to find some trout. The wind was howling out of the East and made the conditions challenging once again. We toughed it out and had a decent catch of trout for the day with seven nice keepers and a mixed catch of cobia, Spanish mackerel, blue fish, lady fish etc... to fill out our day. I'll be glad when the weather straightens out and allows us to get back offshore to where the majority of the fish are. Thank you both for the great time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Windy, Windy, Windy...
Oh yes, the weather man was right today and we had a steady NE wind all day long. I had John on board again for a fun day out of Crystal River and despite the less than desirable conditions, we caught quite a few fish. The trout bite was fair for us most of the day, but mostly shorts were keeping our rods bent. We used a variety of techniques and everything worked well from the cork rigs to the jigs on the bottom. After several hours of being blown around, we hit the creeks and found a nice salt river snook. We were actually targeting red fish and this fine snook grabbed a gold spoon for a pleasant surprise. Thanks John for the great time and we'll go again with better conditions... Capt. Dan

Tarpon Up Close & Personal...
Wow, what an amazing trip out of Crystal River with my wife Becky. We both had the day off today and having to complete a little boat maintenance this morning, we hit the gulf just before noon. Tarpon was the plan and with several tough trips since the prior week of all the rain, the tarpon have finally shown back up. We set up drifts along the bars and with tarpon rolling in our sights, it was fish on. We lucked in to a beautiful tarpon in the 80lb range and after an hour and a half battle, it was boat side for a couple pictures. We revived the fish thoroughly and watched her swim away. Let's hope they will remain in our area for a couple more months... Capt. Dan

Trout Going Deep...
I had the pleasure of having the Worthington family on board out of Crystal River today and the fishing was great. Our plan was to target trout, so we took our time and headed out to the14ft depth range. Having beautiful calm and "hot" conditions, we slowly worked our jigs grass patch to grass patch and had a great catch of trout to show for it. We used an assortment of DOA, MirrOlure and Gulp artificials, and no one bait really out performed the other. I thank you all for the great time and congratulations on the fine catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Backcountry Reds...
We had a fantastic corporate trip today out of the Best Western on the Crystal River and the MWI Veterinary supply group was on board. Myself and Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt and Don Chancey were the Captains and we all had a good catch of trout, red fish and flounder. I had Charlie and Wade for the day and we began our charter deep in the back country and found some beautiful red fish. Free lined live shrimp was our bait of choice and after catching our three keeper red fish, we spent the rest of the afternoon tackling some trout. The trout bite was spectacular, but a couple keepers make their way in to the cooler and numerous shorts kept our rods bent. Thank you all for the great time and look forward to seeing you again next year. Here's Charlie with one of today's red fish... Capt. Dan
