Last Trip for 2013.....

We wrapped up 2013 with a great Crystal River charter today and Kay, Bill and Todd loaded the boat. I picked up the gang at Pete's Pier Marina just after 8am and began the day jigging up a few trout. Very low water and a pretty steady North wind didn't allow very much tide to come in, so we made the run offshore and found the sheep's. The sheepshead action was great with several of them in all sizes and a handful of grouper caught and released too. Live shrimp on a knocker rig was the bait of choice and what a perfect day to end the year. Thank you guys for the fun time and look forward to our next trip... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Late Trip....

Hurry up and wait..... That pretty much sums up today, but we were able to finally make it out and find some fish. It was day two with the Homosassa Fishing Club and the rain kept us at the dock for quite a while. Myself and Capt. Zorn and Toney held down Macrae's for a couple hours and the weather finally cleared enough for us to cook a great shore lunch at the club house. The front was coming through and we had our chance to make it on the water. My crew did really well on some upper and over slot trout with DOA glow jerk baits to save the day. I thank you all for the great time and here's the gang with some great Homosassa trout... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Inside and Out...

Definitely a fun group on board with me today and we changed it up a bit. The Homosassa Fishing Club was in town and we brought the crew up to Crystal River. Myself and Capts. Mark Zorn and William Toney had the pleasure of fishing the Wait party and we loaded up. Big tout catches and mixed bags of sheepshead, sea bass, flounder, grunts and mackerel filled the buckets. My team did great and it turned out to be a beautiful day. I thank you all for a wonderful time and I hope we can get tomorrow in, with the coming weather... Capt. Dan

A big change in the weather from yesterdays trip, but we gave it a try and did well. I had the pleasure of having the Davies family on board and they did great. NE wind, on and off showers and low water - the conditions were tough, but it was Brian's birthday present and I was determined to find some fish. We tucked back in the salt river, worked some holes with kelp grass and found some trout. Not big numbers, but a couple keepers and a few under slot red fish in the river. Live shrimp was the bait of choice and I thank you all for great morning. Here's Brian with the big trout of the day and happy birthday... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout & Sheeps...

A fun day with a great father and son team out of Crystal River and these guys had a good one. Todd and Tyler were the team and they definitely kept the rods bent catching trout and sheepshead. The day began throwing DOA jerk baits on a shallow oyster bar and catching and releasing some beautiful trout. With our arms warmed up, our next stop were some offshore sheepshead. The sheepshead bite was outstanding and we landed well over forty, just keeping a bakers dozen for a meal or two. Tyler brought in a beautiful, hefty sea bass that was over 16" to add to the catch. A fun, busy fish catching day and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club fishing the Spalding party and what another great day. Mildrid, Charlie and James were my anglers for the day and we tackled some more Homosassa trout. I for the most part, did the same plan as yesterday's successful trip and it worked out beautifully. We flew down the Little Homosassa River, reached our location and began the day. DOA jerk baits around the kelp grass patches and rock bars were where we found the trout. The team put twelve nice keepers in the cooler before our afternoon shore lunch and a great two days are in the books. I thank you all for the fun time and look forward to your next visit... Capt. A fun young group on board with me today at the Homosassa Fishing Club and we caught some really nice trout. Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains William Toney, Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, Jonathan Hamilton, Mike Baize and Jim Long had the pleasure of fishing the Spalding party. Annie, Charlie and Bo were my group and they did great. I haven't been out of Homosassa in a while, but it didn't take long to find the trout. Kelp grass, hard bottom and DOA glow jerk baits was the recipe for success. The team caught some good ones with a couple over the 20" mark. The other guides did great as well with some very impressive pompano catches, but we had top honors in the big trout catch. A great day and fine afternoon shore lunch - it just doesn't get any better. Here's my group with a great trout catch by 12:30pm... Capt. Dan

Pretty Day Offshore....

We're so blessed to have this great weather in December and the fishing is fantastic. Lee and Clell were my guests today and we continued with the winter pattern and tackled the sheepshead. The sheepshead bite was good, but the grunts were beating the sheepshead to the shrimp the majority of the time. Eventually, the grunts calmed down and more and more sheepshead came aboard. The bonito were around as well and we had some give our drags a work out again. With box full of fish, we ran inshore stopped on a rocky point, and finished the day with several red fish. Most of the reds were shorts, but one made its way home for a fresh red fish dinner. I thank you both for a great day and I look forward to our next charter. Here's Clell with a big catch, a 9lb sheepshead... Capt. Dan

You couldn't have ordered any better weather for us today and my good client Chuck had a great day. We shoved off from Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and made our way out. On the way to sheepshead grounds, we made a few cast on a bar and caught a couple trout to get the day started. We left the trout and made our way offshore to the 20ft range, anchored up and began bringing in sheepshead and some short lived grouper battles. Good quality sized sheepshead were coming on board and a grouper break offs here and there, but Chuck turned a beautiful gag on 10lb test for a quick photo. The bonito were around as well and we caught a couple to give the drags on the shimano 2500 saros a work out. A picture perfect day and plenty of action - I thank you for the great time... Capt. Dan
