Crystal River Fishing Charters & Homosassa Fishing Charters in Citrus County, Florida
Mother Nature turned on the dinner bell today and what a great day. Clell and Lee were on board and with the approaching cold front, the fish were on the feed. The offshore sheepshead action was slow to start, but eventually they turned on and it was amazing. The heavy weight sheepshead were on the rocks today and we caught a couple in the 7lb to 8lb range. The fog showed up again, but not nearly as bad a yesterdays trip, which allowed me to run a bit farther offshore. With a excellent catch of sheepshead, we ran back inshore and scored big on the trout. I basically ran a couple rocky shorelines until I saw a few trout and then worked the area. ( Remember, trout school this time of year and when you catch one, there's usually more around ). DOA glow jerk baits over rocks were the ticket and the guys ended the day with some awesome skinny water trout. Thank you both for the fun day and congratulations on the outstanding catch... Capt. Dense Fog Sheepshead....

A stressful ride on the gulf today with extremely dense sea fog to contend with, but we had a good day. David and Ron were on board for the day and I must say thank you guys, for putting up with the wet conditions. The crew and I did made it offshore with some help from my stone crab buddies running the radar and we got on the sheepshead. The incoming tide bite was great and the sheepshead were biting real well. However, when it turned to go out, it was slow. We left the sheepshead and picked up a nice trout on the inside to end the day. I had a great with you both and lets hope for "drier" weather next time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Late Start....

I'm so glad today's charter worked out. Ed and his daughter Emma were my guests today and after they had vehicle trouble this morning, we were able to save the afternoon. We made it off the dock at noon from Pete's Pier Marina and with a pretty good high tide, I made a quick stop to find a couple trout. The trout bite was great on DOA glow jerk baits and Ed caught a nice bonus red fish in the same area. The seas were like glass and our next stop were the sheepshead grounds. I hammered down until we hit the 20ft range and once we sent down our Blue Water Bait and Tackle live shrimp, the sheepshead were in a frenzy. They did great and ended the day with a fine catch. Thank you both for a fun afternoon and enjoy all the fish... Capt. Dan

Well, my boys on board today earned their catch, that's for sure and with out a doubt; it was the coldest trip of the year... Jay, Jim, Tim and Tommy were my guest out of Crystal River and we spent the day on the sheepshead grounds. To start the day, my boat was iced over and it took a little while for it to defrost. Around 9am, the gang loaded up and we made our way offshore. It was a cold ride to say the least, but we made it and began dropping down on some sheepshead. The action was quite slow and a couple keepers came on board, but we were working for them. We ended the day with enough fish for the guys to have a nice dinner and have their catch prepared at Oysters in Crystal River. Thank you guys for hanging in there and look forward to a future "warmer" trip... Capt. Dan

Happy fish today folks..... Joe was my solo guest today and he had a day. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina, we made our initial run offshore and got on the sheepshead. I knew there was a cold front on its way and our time would be limited to stay on the out side. We hit a couple rocks and caught a few keepers, before the line of rain came through. With the rain approaching, I made it safe to the Salt River bridge and we waited out the rain. The skies cleared after an hour and we were back fishing and catching some really nice trout. DOA glow jerk baits, MirrOlure MirrOdines and Unfair Lures plugs were all working very well. Joe and I finished off a limit of trout and released few over the slot, to end the day. I thank you bud for fun time and look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Chilly Ride.....

It sure was good to be back on the big pond, but "wooo" it was a chilly ride. The gulf water temperature is still in the mid 50's and once you clear the river, it's cold. I had Tim and Jeanne on board and we spent the majority of the day on the sheepshead grounds. We jumped around on various rocks and ledges, but the bite wasn't to strong for us today. We did pick up a couple nice keepers, but we had to work for them. The tide was really running in hard for the afternoon and to end the day, we stopped on a shallow rock bar and caught a couple beautiful trout. DOA glow jerk baits just above the submerged rocks were the ticket. I had a great time with you both and next time I hope it's a little warmer. Here's Tim with a fine Crystal River trout... Capt. Dan

Cold Fronts and Rescheduling...

Just about a week off the water and I'm ready to go...... Tough conditions were on order this past week with a couple cold fronts, but I'm optimistic for better weather this week. I want to let you all know about the Crystal River story in the February issue of Sport Fishing Magazine. Myself and a couple of my great guide friends fished the Sport Fishing Magazine team a couple months ago and they sampled a little bit of variety of what our area has to offer. It's a great read and I know you'll enjoy it. I'll see you on the water soon... Capt. Dan

The calm before the storm and what a beautiful day it was. Yes, more winter weather is on the way folks for the coming week and we'll see what happens.... Donna and George were on board with me for the day and we ran to the sheepshead grounds once again. The gulfs in the mid 50's and with the cold water temperature; sheepshead fishing is "usually" a sure bet on some great action. Well, they didn't disappoint us today and we had a fantastic day. Live shrimp on knocker rigs and steady sheepshead on our lines filled out the day. We lost count on how many we caught and released and we kept a good catch for a few fish dinners. I've been trying to let the larger big females go and the ones we do keep, are the numerous smaller males to keep the stock going strong. A great day out of Crystal River and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

A really good time out of the Best Western resort with fellow Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt and Randy Hodges. The bite wasn't hot across the board, but a couple nice trout and sheepshead were brought in. My crew did fine with nine keepers for a end of the day total. We fished a couple sharp drop off ledges with live shrimp on a knocker rig to catch the sheeps. A 1:30pm shore lunch was on order and myself and the other guys prepared a great shore lunch with all the fixings. This was Capt. Zorn's trip and he brought the secret recipe for the hush puppies and they were a big hit. A fun day and I thank you all for the fun time. Here's Tash with a beautiful Crystal River sheepshead... Cold Water Sheeps...

The weather was in our favor today and wow, what a beautiful day. Rick was my solo guest for the day and you couldn't have asked for more perfect conditions. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina, we experienced a little morning fog to the sheepshead grounds but it soon cleared. The gulf has cooled to a very chilly 51 degrees and the bite was non existent until the tide turned to go out. With the warmer inshore waters running out and the sun warming the gulf a degree a two, it turned the sheepshead on. Rick and I had some good action on various ledges and rock piles for the afternoon, plus a gag grouper or two. A fine catch of sheepshead ended the day and I thank you for the fun time... Capt. Dan
