Back on the Sheep's...

I was a bit worried with today's forecast with the high winds; but it turned out to be a beautiful day and the bite turned back on. I had Kay, Bill and Tom on board for the day and we stayed in the river for the morning hours. The trip began out quite breezy and we fished around the springs catching mangrove snapper to get the day going. We sure caught a bunch, but mostly shorts with about 8 keepers before we headed down the river. You could see the smoke stacks at the power plant starting to rise and I knew we could make it offshore. I made a couple mile run and we found some fine sheepshead jumping rock to rock to finish up the day. I thank you all for the great day and I look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Slow Bite Sheep's...

Not a hot bite for us today, but we managed to catch a couple fine sheepshead. I had Rich and Janet on board out of Crystal River for the day and we fished some of my south locations for sheepshead. The team and I fished a couple different spots, but the bite was really slow. We had a front come through during the day and the wind swapped from the SW to NW in just a couple hours. The front may have had an effect on the fishing, but the largest sheepshead of season was caught today and it sure was a beauty. A fun day and I thank you both for the great time... Capt. Dan

I guess I shouldn't complain and I do feel for the people up North right now, but it sure was nice to have some good weather today. I had Clell and Lee on board for the day and we were able to run offshore and tackle some sheepsheaed. The sea's were absolutely perfect and we fished the 15ft to 20ft range for the day. The sheepshead bite was very good and on all the stops produced some fine sheep's. A beautiful day and I thank you both as always for the great time... Capt. Dan

Red on the Fly...

Kind of a last minute outing today with my good friend Capt. Jonathan Hamilton and he took me in the Homosassa backcoutry for a couple hours. It's just been to windy to take my clients out to the winter sheepshead grounds and unfortunately, I've been off the water because of the conditions. Today though, Jonathan and I were going stir crazy to say the least and we had to go for a boat ride. We ran his Maverick skiff though the Mason creek area and we're able to pole down a shore line out of the wind. I was lucky enough to put the fly in front of a couple red fish and one of them cooperated nicely. It's actually been quite a while for me to connect with a red fish on the long rod and thanks bud for a fun couple hours. Next time, you're on the front of the boat... Capt. Dan

Big Front...

Some pretty dramatic weather changes over the last couple of days and the cold air has settled back in. I've unfortunately, had to cancel the last couple days and probably the beginning of the up coming week as well. High winds, dirty water and the big temperature change; it's just not a good combination. A good friend of mine and FWC officer Laird Canfield, was on the water on patrol and took this great picture. This is near the mouth of the Crystal River and I think the picture speaks for itself with some high sea's for the inland waters. Soon as it's favorable, I'll be back on the water and thank you all for checking in... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Gator..

A fun day with Ray on board and it was a one on one day; so we took the skiff and had a great time. Ray is an accomplished fly fisherman and we tried out luck today at trying to catch a red fish on the fly. Ray put the fly in the "window" on quite a few red fish today, but they were laid up and wouldn't move an inch. To be honest, I don't think they would even taken a shrimp; by the way they were acting. So, we tried our luck with trout and caught a couple along with a beautiful Crystal River gator trout. I thank you Ray for the great time and I look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Flat Calm Offshore...

One of those days when you could have taken a canoe offshore. I had the pleasure of having the Bennett family on board for the day and we were on the sheepshead plan. We fished some of my favorite offshore spots in the 25ft range and did well. The hard running tide was a issue again, but we hung in there with the conditions. Live shrimp on knocker rigs were the baits of the day and we even added a surprise hog fish to the mix as well. The team had a great catch of sheepshead and several were in the 5lb range. A really pretty day and I thank you all for the great time... Capt. Dan

Winter Sheep's...

It's my winter go to species once again today, trout and sheepshead. I had Mark and John on board for the day and we spent the majority of the day jumping rock to rock catching some sheepshead. The tide was roaring, and I mean roaring in today; which made it difficult to keep the baits on the bottom without using to much lead to scare off the fish. We made do with the high volume of water moving and had a nice catch of sheepshead. The guys added a couple keeper trout to the box to end the day and it sure was a great day to be offshore... Capt. Hooked on Fishing...

A very fun and special day fishing the Grosselin family and my youngest anglers to date, Tanner and Logan did outstanding. It was a chilly one with yesterday's front passing and my boat was iced over this morning. We allowed it to warm up a bit and left the dock at 9am. I kept it fun for the young guys and fished the river for some mangrove snapper and trout. The family did great with several snapper and three keeper trout to fill out their 1/2 day trip. I thank you all for the great time and look forward to seeing you in the years to come... Capt. Dan

Family Sheep's...

Nothing makes me more happy than seeing a youngster hooked up to a fish. I had the Behnen family on board today and young 6yr old Nathan, was reeling them in. I worked a couple different ledges and using live shrimp on knocker rigs; we caught a little variety. Grunts, sheepshead, sea bass and grouper filled out our day and everyone did great. The day was beautiful and is sure was good to see the sun out again. I thank you all for the great day and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
