Jumping Poons...

Some hit and miss days recently on the Nature Coast, but always a fun time. The tarpon chase is never a guarantee, but when it comes together; those days are special. A couple more weeks and I'll be jumping in to the grouper game; before I spend most of July in Wyoming. I'll check in soon and don't forget; grouper season opens Wednesday... Capt. Dan

Tarpon Boatside...

It's been pretty good out there in tarpon land this week and we've been jumping fish just about every day. Today I had JC on board and we brought a beautiful tarpon boat side. We saw several schools of fish and after several refusals; we presented the right fly to the right fish and connected. A fine tarpon around 90lbs came to the boat, took some great pictures and set her free. A great day and great job JC... Capt. Dan

In The Air...

The tarpon action continues to be quite good for the morning hours, but slowing a bit during the day. The last couple of trips we've seen some good fish, had some eaters and jumped a few. Dark colored flies are still whats working best and here's a recent shot of a big tarpon giving us a dance.... Capt. Dan

Tarpon Fever...

Another great morning on the tarpon flats and we were able to hook up two fine tarpon on the fly. We left at sun up this morning and worked a channel to some rising fish. The black/orange color combination was the flavor of the day and both fish put on a spectacular show. The season is looking quite good and lets hope it continues... Capt. Dan

Tarpon on Fly!!!

A bus-mans holiday with my great friend Capt. Clay Shidler and I was able to coach him to his first tarpon on the fly. We left the dock before day light and we were in fish right away. Clay's second cast he had one eat, and the next he connected. It was a perfect size fish, close to fifty pounds and what a great acrobatic one too. A fun morning and congratulations my man... Capt. Tarpon Opener...

A very good start to the 2016 tarpon season and we've seen several fish and brought one boat side. I always take the first couple days and go scouting, with some of the other guides and good friends. Today I was out with a great friend and excellent Homosassa guide, Capt. Jim Farrior and we caught a fish in the seventy pound class on the long rod. The fish ate the classic purple/black color combination and we spent the rest of the day spotting a few other schools of fish and running south towards Bayport. A great day and I thank you for letting me have the bow of the boat for the day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Inshore...

Always a fun day with Joe and Joanne and last trip we tackled the big cobia. For today's trip, we stayed inshore and did well on the trout and red fish. The tide was incoming for the morning hours so we jumped right into red fishing and cut pin fish was the bait of choice. The bait stealers are in full force now, so unless your shrimp is jumbo size; it won't last long. The couple did great on the red fish and released an over slot too. Next up, we jigged the 8ft range and caught some fine trout on a couple of drifts for the out going tide. I tried for a cobia , but all we came up with was some fine gag grouper. A great day with you both and this is my last "regular" charter for a while. Tarpon season is upon us and wish me luck. The next couple of weeks are going to be challenging, but fun all the same.... Homosassa Variety...

We covered the whole spectrum from inshore to offshore with Jason and Mike on board for the day. I picked up the father and some team at Macrae's and we began back in the creeks hooking in to some nice snook, trout and red fish. I put the trolling motor down and we eased along targeting the points with DOA jerk baits. The guys caught a fine inshore slam, plus some for the morning hours. The tide dropped out, and we trekked offshore for more fun and more species. Cobia, grouper and grunts bent the rod for the afternoon and it was an fantastic day. Thank you both so much.... Capt. Crystal River Slam...

A fun catch and release day with Rick on board and we covered some ground. We began the day in Salt River and we caught a nice slam. Snook, trout and red fish were all caught in less than an hour and on glow colored DOA jerk baits. For the rest of the day, we did some running around looking for cobia and triple tail. We did hook into "briefly", a keeper sized cobia, but the hook pulled and the triple tail we saw; were all on the short side. A great time my friend and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

The boys from the East side of the county were on board and Bart, Danny and Shane were the team for the day. I made the run to 9ft of water to some grass patches and we jigged out way to a fine catch of trout. The trout are on small isolated grass patches, but when you find them; they are really concentrated. We made about 4 drifts and the guys had their limit. Next up, we caught and released some gag grouper and brought home a couple fine triple tail to end the day. Always a great day with you all and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan
