Homosassa Variety...

An action packed day for sure out of the Homosassa Fishing Club and I joined my good friend Capt. Mark Zorn fishing the Hansen party. I had Richard and Jerry on board for the day and the guys had the hod rods. We made our quick run offshore to about 8ft of water and the trout bite was on. We had out limit of fifteen trout by 11am and even released a few others. With red fishing really not being all that fantastic at the time and the tide running out; we opted to go rock jumping. We jigged an assortment of different rocks and had a nice variety. Sea bass, keeper sized gags, cobia, flounder etc... were keeping us busy for the afternoon. It was a perfect day and I can't thank you both enough. Here's both teams with our catches for the day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore...

I'm telling those grouper "watch out, only two months to go" before the season opens. David and Steve joined me today out of Crystal River and they wanted to experience some hard fighting fish. I suggested cobia and grouper and the guys said "great, lets do it". Cobia was going to be our first target and once we anchored on our structure, we caught three just under keeper sized cobia to start the day. Free lined live pin fish was the bait of choice for the cobia. With some great pictures and the guys ready for some grouper; we made a couple mile run, anchored and FISH ON. We caught and released eleven keeper sized gags to 16lbs and had our lines busted a couple times as well. We called it a day a little early and the guys couldn't have been more happier. Here's David with the big grouper of the day released, to be caught again in July... Capt. Dan

Just a scouting trip today with my good friend Matt to see whats going on around the cobia structures. We checked some channel markers, wrecks and saw a couple cobia and quite a few tripletail. No big cobia today, but we did land one in the 30" range to put a bend in the rod. Keep on the look out if you're on the water, more and more will be coming every day... Capt. Dan

Day two of the Homosassa Fishing Clubs Watson party and I had the Calhoun family on board for our 1/2 day charter. Leaving the club dock at 8am, we began the day with a couple nice slot red fish that fell to some free lined live shrimp. Not much of a tide today, but enough to cover the rocks and allow a little time red fishing. Our next stop was the "Chazz" kelp beds and the trout bite was slow, due to no wind and absolute slick calm conditions. When the breeze kicked in, so did the trout bite and a few keepers made their way in to the cooler. For today's surprise, Wade caught a nice cobia on a cork rig, which gave a hard fight to end our morning. I thank the entire group for a fun couple of days and we'll see you on your next visit... Homosassa Cobia & Grouper...

It was another hot one today offshore Homosassa and we caught a nice mixed bag of Cobia, grouper, sea bass and trout. Bill, Christy and Andy joined me today out of Macrae's and we were offshore bound to find some hard fighting grouper. We made a quick stop at the Bonnie the bait lady to fill the live well full of pin fish to start our day and our next stop was anchoring up on some ledges and fighting some grouper. The grouper action was good in the 17ft range and another nice cobia surprised us for an added bonus for our trip. While offshore we also tried for some deep water trout and caught quite a few, but only one keeper was added to the mix. I thank you all for the fun time and sticking it out in the hot conditions. Here's Christy with her first cobia and congratulations... Capt. Dan

It was a great feeling to anchor up once again, send down some live pin fish and watch the rods double over. Today was my first of many upcoming charters for the gag grouper season and Bill and Sheena started it off with a bang. I picked the couple up from their home on the river and started the day filling the live well with an assortment of frisky baits. Our next stop, was anchoring up on some shallow ledges and the grouper were on location waiting. We caught several gags and lost a few heavy weights that we just couldn't turn around in time; and they broke off. Bill had a good fish on and to our surprise a beautiful keeper cobia was on board as an added bonus. The offshore bite was the best today and our couple of stops inshore produced only a few fish with the extreme high flood tide. I thank you both very much for the fun day and always look forward to our future charters... Capt. Dan

Trouting in the Wind...

Another breezy day on the flats out of Crystal River and Mark Sr. and Mark Jr. were ready to give it a try. I picked the guys up from their home on the Crystal River and we were off to find some trout. The wind was howling out of the East and made the conditions challenging once again. We toughed it out and had a decent catch of trout for the day with seven nice keepers and a mixed catch of cobia, Spanish mackerel, blue fish, lady fish etc... to fill out our day. I'll be glad when the weather straightens out and allows us to get back offshore to where the majority of the fish are. Thank you both for the great time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Another request for an offshore charter and I was anxious to take Gary, John and Brad out of Crystal River. Cobia again was our offshore species for the day and after a very productive stop at the "bait bar", we were all set to target some cobia. We arrived at our destination and shortly after anchoring up and chumming, we were greeted by several large brown bombers. It was fast and furious action, with a couple fish on at a time and on today's charter; we landed 7 out of 8 cobia for our end of the day total. As an added bonus, a couple hefty gag grouper and Spanish Mackerel graced us, and I thank you all for the wonderful time. Here's the crew with a couple of the keeper cobia and enjoy the tasty fillets... Capt. Dan

If my boat would have had enough gas, I think we could of made it to Mexico today. An absolute beautiful day offshore Crystal River in search of cobia and I have Mike and Mike to thank for the great trip. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina this morning at 8am, we ran to the "bait bar" and filled the live well with an assortment of pinfish, blue runners, bally hoo etc... With the live well full of goodies, we targeted some of my favorite cobia locations in the 15ft to 25ft range and we caught some hard fighting cobia. A nice surprise you don't see every day in our region is barracuda and we actually saw several today. We gave them a shot with various lures and live baits, but no takers today on this trip. Thank you both for a great offshore day and I hope to see you again soon... Capt. Dan

The cobia did what they can sometimes do best, and that's make an angler go crazy. I had my great friends and clients Bill and Karen on board and they wanted to experience a drag pulling cobia. We left from Pete's Pier Marina this morning, caught a couple dozen pin fish and ran to a near shore wreck to find a cobia. There was another boat in the area and we patiently waited for them to move, before we anchored up and gave it our best. In a short time, we had a couple cobia surfacing next to the boat, but they had lock jaw today. Refusal after refusal was what we experienced, so we pulled anchor and saved the day with a nice catch of trout and a bonus flounder to end the day. Thank you both as always for the wonderful time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
