Crystal River Slam & Some...

A good time with the Villages team of Lauren, Dan and Big Fish Bob. Our day began on the outgoing tide and securing a fine catch of red fish, plus a snook on the first cast. We left this inshore scene and made our way out to 12ft of water. We set up shop on some hard bottom and had some fantastic mangrove snapper and grouper action. The action was fast and furious for over and hour, and Lauren actually turned a keeper gag on light 10lb test tackle. We finished the day with a trout to complete the slam and I thank you all... Going Deep...

It's not to often I have the weather to go deep, but today was the day. The guys were back on board from yesterday and with calm seas, we went West. I fished some of my deeper grouper structures and caught a couple, but it was quite slow and actually disappointing in the bites. The grouper bite in general this year is quite tough from all the reports in the area and hopefully with the upcoming fall season, it gets better. The team however, had some great action on snapper and a couple bonus hog fish; which are always a welcomed surprise. The sea's were calm and though the grouper bite was slow, we had a great day.... Good Mix...

A great time today with Mike, Chris and Steve and we had a nice mixed bag. We made the run offshore to about 18ft of water and on one spot, we did extremely well. Red fish, trout, snapper, cobia and grunts sure kept us busy using live pin fish and shrimp. We did catch a couple small gags on the first stop, but I moved around a bit after that and Mike turned a hefty gag plus releasing several just under the 24" mark. A great morning and I'll see you all tomorrow. Here's Mike with his big gag grouper of the day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Gags & Reds...

A great start to the day on our grouper trip and the gags were biting very well. Terry and Chuck were my guests and they teamed up, sent down some live pin fish and turned some nice grouper. I was only able to hit three spots before the rain storms and wind gusts, chased us inshore. Not to cut the trip short; we finished up with some fine red fish and a great day out of Crystal River is in the books. I thank you both and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Reds, Gags, Mango's & Macks..

We had another nice variety catch on today's trip with Tony, Ray and Rusty. Our day began on the incoming tide and the team picked up a couple fine red fish. We left the inside as it was smoldering hot, and ran offshore a bit. We had some terrific grouper action on live pin fish and turned a couple nice keepers as well. The guys released numerous fish in the 22" - 23 3/4" range, which is a good sight to see. A mix of grunts, mango's and mackerel filled out the day and I thank you all... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Reds & Gags..

Good to be back on the gags! It's definitely not prime grouper season yet, but it's sure is getting better. Bill and Fred were my guests today and the day started on the points targeting the reds. The red fish bite was good and live shrimp did the trick for us. Next though, we made the run offshore in the bumpy seas and found some gags. The grouper bite was surprisingly good and the team turned three nice keepers to show for the day. I thank you both and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mix...

A fun day with Jim on board and he came solo, for a great first time experience. Jim and I began our day on the outgoing tide, catching a couple snook and a fine slot red fish to bend the rod. I didn't have a bunch of tide to work with, but we made it happen. For the rest of our day we did the rock pile game and did well on mangrove snapper and a keeper gag. A nice variety and I thank you Jim... Capt. Dan

1/2 day on the Rocks...

Mr. Dan and his grandson Alek joined me today for a day on the big pond. Today's plan with the tides being what they were, was to fish the rock piles for snapper, grunts and what ever else we could find. Well, the snapper bite was great and the guys free lined live shrimp for their success. I ran a bit deeper to try a grouper ledge and we got broke off, caught a couple shorts and Alek turned a beautiful keeper. The gulf soon got still with nothing happening and the heat was on, so we called it a day. I thank you both and great job... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Gags & Reds...

Day one with the Bosworth team and we left Macrae's at 8am and headed to the red fish points. We just set up on the last minutes of the incoming tide and free lined live shrimp in the mullet schools, for a fine limit of mid slot red fish. The guys did great and the rest of our day we jumped rock to rock catching grunts and grouper. The gags were biting, but most were shy of the keeper size, except Will turned a beauty to seal the deal. A fun time and good action; I'll see you all tomorrow... Capt. Dan

Slow Offshore...

It was a toasty one offshore today with Chris, Mike and Kathy on board and the gags were just not in a feeding mood. I jumped around all day hitting some of my favorite bottom structures, but it just wasn't happening. The usual grunts, mango's and macks kept us busy, but the grouper we on lock down. I talked to the deep offshore captains as well, and it was just an off bite kind of day. We did score a nice keeper though and had plenty of goodies with the other fish. Always a fun time and I'll see you all tomorrow... Capt. Dan
