Homosassa Grouper Diggin'...

Written by
Absolutely a picture perfect day out of Homosassa and the gags were on fire. Bill, Tony, Kay and Pam were my guests and they requested a shallow water grouper day. We fished some of my south areas I haven't been to in a while and it was fantastic. We jumped rock to rock taking a fish here and there by either trolling or casting plugs. The floating grass was a bit of a pain, but we managed to deal with it and had a great day. Hot head colored Rapala x-raps were the ticket and I thank you all for the fun day. Here's the crew with a grouper catch to be proud of... Capt. Dan
Hello everyone, today was one of those magical October days where everything comes together just right. Merrill, Robert, and Chuck were my guest today for their annual October grouper trip and we hit it out of the park. We left from Pete's Pier Marina, filled the live well with frisky live pin fish and headed West. A beautiful day and we began dropping some live baits on one of my favorite ledges. A quick keeper came aboard and several break offs soon followed. It's always frustrating loosing grouper, but it's part of the game in such shallow water bottom fishing. Mid morning, the tide was getting just right to drag a plug and the gags were in a aggressive mood. Each pass produced a keeper gag and one was in the upper teens. The group reached their limit and we ran to a shallow rock for a mixed bag. Once anchoring, the pompano were swarming the boat and we had a ball. An awesome mixed catch of the usual species , but several pompano were added as well. I can't thank you all enough for a great day and congratulations on a fantastic day... Capt. Dan

Rough Grouper Fun Day....

Written by
Be glad you weren't offshore in a canoe today. "Wow," it was a rough one, but I was in good hands. I joined my great clients Lee and Clell in their beautiful 30ft Hydra-Sport offshore boat for some grouper digging. The marine forecast called for much better conditions then it was and I'll just say it was rough.... We made it out to the 30ft range and then actually made our way back towards shore. The seas were manageable in 20ft of water and that's where we found our gags. We caught a couple trolling, a couple on live pin fish and had a fine limit to shore for our efforts. I thank you both for asking me to fish with you and look forward to doing it again soon... Capt. Dan

Back Inshore, Crystal River Reds...

Written by
Back to the inshore scene today with Brian, Roy, Janet, and Dana and we caught some beautiful red fish. I haven't seen this group in a while with Brian and Janet visiting from Maine and Roy and Dana visiting from Texas. I'm glad they were here and it's always a fun day on the water with them. We left from Pete's Pier Marina and with a great incoming tide, we went looking for some red fish. The red fish were very happy today and we had a double digit day, with a couple of them well over the slot. Free lined live shrimp was our bait of choice. The trout action still wasn't on fire; but we added five nice keepers to the cooler to ensure a nice fresh fish dinner being prepared Oysters in Crystal River. A great October day on the water and I thank you all for the wonderful time. Here's yours truly and Janet with her big red fish of the day.. Capt. Dan
