P8150070I met Brian and Tom at Pete's Pier this morning, to show them how to target trout here in Citrus County. They have recently mover here from down south and I wanted to help them the best I could to find some fish. We covered a lot of techniques from running inshore through the creeks, to the deep grass patches south of Homosassa. DOA deadly combos and a DOA shrimp on a 1/8oz jig head are all thats needed to put trout in the boat. We picked up a couple keepers along the way and plenty of shorts to show the guys how it's done. I really enjoyed the day hearing all the offshore stories they have from the Miami area and talking lobster "which is still fresh in my mind from my recent vacation". Thanks guys and when it starts cooling down we will troll up some grouper. Here are a couple trout from todays trip...Capt. Dan

8 Gallons and 10 Trout Aug 14th 2010

P8140067Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt and myself had a full day Crystal River charter; with a mix of scalloping and fishing. We picked up the Dr. Crymes charter at the Best Western and started the day with the underwater Easter egg hunt. The scalloping is truly fantastic and all 3 boats did a superb job. For some of the group today, this was there first time scalloping and are ready to go again. After cleaning our scallop limits, we ran offshore a couple miles and caught some beautiful trout. DOA deadly combos in the holographic watermelon shrimp color on a chartreuse jig head did the trick. We had 10 keepers to finish up the afternoon and the other boats did about the same. We finished up the day cleaning the fish at Pete's Pier and fed the tarpon which is always a highlight. Thanks to everyone for a special day and look forward to seeing you all again... Capt. Dan

P8130064Wow, what a great day!  The Masi family joined me for there first Crystal River scalloping experience. We loaded up in two places off St. Martins Keys, and had our 10 gallon limit around noon. The kids enjoyed seeing all the marine life and a big thanks to mom and dad for helping with the cleaning process. Here is the family with a cooler full and thanks for a fun day...Capt. Dan

P8120061I met a great family today at the Plantation resort on the Crystal River. Tina and her son, Chase, wanted to do some inshore fishing, so I recommended targeting trout. This species is a sure bet right now, so they said "lets go". It was a little rough and there were some storms around, so we stayed in the salt river area and fished the kelp beds and oyster bars.  It was steady action all morning with my favorite go to bait, the DOA deadly combos in the glow color. Numerous shorts and a handfull of keepers made for a great busy morning. Tina has been fishing this area for many years and couln't remeber catching so many fish in such a short amount of time. That is a great complimment and I told her I was just doing my job. Thank you for a fun morning and I'll see you again on your next visit to Citrus County. Here is one of today's bigger trout...
