The Last Few Days. July. 11th 2011

Written by
P7100614Well, for those of you who live in Citrus County, you know how the weather has been. Rain the last few days has made it difficult to get out and approaching storms have cut the trips short. Friday was a rain cancellation and Saturdays charter with the Coleman family was good for a few hours of fishing and we boated six red fish before the storm chased us in. I always enjoy fishing with you all and I'll see you in September. I was asked to film a Goliath grouper T.V. show for Nature Coast Outdoors on Monday. So, on Sunday my wife and I made a quick bait run, and jacks, lady fish and blue fish were on Ice ready to go. We also picked up several nice trout while doing so and all were released to fight another day. This brings us to Monday, and unfortunately another rained out day. We did make it offshore, fished for less than five minutes and had to come back in. We will hopefully have better conditions for our rescheduled trip and put Capt. William Toney on a big Goliath. Thanks everyone for all the great comments on my daily blogs and reports and I'll see you on the water... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Scallops! July 6th 2011

Written by
P7060610Today was the first scalloping charter of the year for me because I've been booked with fishing charters, and I had the Zimmerman family aboard to start if off. We met at 8am at Riverside resort and out the little Homosassa to the scallop grounds. We stayed in the shallower 3ft to 4ft grass flats and did very well. We totaled about 6 gallons for the day and for the family doing this for the first time, they did outstanding. Thanks everyone for the fun time and here is Zoe with her bag full of scallops... Capt. Dan

P7050608A busy fish catching morning out of Crystal River and the deep spotty bottom areas continue to produce. I picked up Mike, Max and Chelsea down the river at the family home and we were offshore bound. I made one long run out to 15ft of water and the trout bite was on. Three and four on at a time made for some great action and several keepers came aboard throughout the day. Today's top colors were the DOA holographic root beer and stark naked shrimp. We released a few drag screaming sharks and numerous sea bass to fill out the morning. Just after noon we called it a day, beat the storms in and just after this picture was taken, the rain came down. Thanks everyone for the great time and enjoy tonight's dinner... Capt. Dan

Holiday Trout. July 3rd 2011

Written by

P7030605Today was day two for the holiday weekend and I was ready to run back offshore and put my clients on some deep water trout. Rich, Vanessa, Jeff and John met me at Pete's Pier at 9am and we were off to the deep spotty bottom grass patches. In no time, Vanessa hooked up on a keeper trout and the rest of the gang quickly followed. The group only wanted to keep a few for a meal, so we kept a couple and released several others. Today I fished one the deepest locations that I target trout on and at one point we were in 17ft of water. It takes some time to get out there, but the fish are there and in very good numbers. Today's top producing color was once again the DOA holographic root beer shrimp on a 1/8oz jig head. Thanks everyone for the fun day and look forward to seeing you all again soon... Capt. Dan
