Perfect Day! April 8th 2011

Written by

P4080449Calm seas, clear water and the trout were on the feed. These were the makings of a perfect day out of Crystal River. I met John and Sam at Pete's Pier this morning and we ran to the deeper flats to load up on the trout. It was steady action for most of the day and a variety of species kept us busy. Trout, Spanish mackerel, cobia, grouper, lady fish, sharks etc... were all part of our mixed bag today. Sam is one of the younger anglers I have had on board and this young man can work a jig with the best of them. He did outstanding and the majority of the fish today were all thanks to him. DOA deadly combos and new penny gulps were today's baits of choice. Thanks guys for the fun day and look forward to seeing you again... Capt. Dan

P4070445A perfect 1/2 day charter out of Pete's Pier today and I have Fred and Carrol to thank for it. We left the marina at 8am sharp and started the morning catching several mackerel. The couple was here on vacation and only wanted to keep a couple for a meal or two, so we put four macks in the cooler and released the others. Chumming and freelining live shrimp was the ticket for the macks. For a change of pace, I suggested trying for a trout or two and we did just that. The DOA deadly combos in the holographic root beer kept us busy with the trout and lady fish. We ended the trip giving them a tour of the springs and finding a manatee to top it off. Thanks for a great day and hope to see you again on your next visit to Citrus County... Capt. Dan

South Wind Trout. April 4th 2011

Written by
P4040438A pretty day out of Crystal River, but we had a steady 15mph South wind to contend with. I had my annual clients from Maine on board today. DJ and Dave were back once again for some inshore fishing. We started the day working the oyster bars and catching trout after trout, but they they were all on the short side. The winds switched to high gear, so we mad a long run to get out of the wind and make the conditions more enjoyable. The keepers starting coming and the guys had some upper slot trout with a few over the 20" mark. DOA deadly combos with the glow cal shad paddle tail was today's bait of choice. We left the trout and found a few redfish back in the creeks and a lost mackerel. I thank you guys for the fun day and I hope it starts to warm up for you when you get back home. Here is DJ with a beautiful 21" trout... Capt. Dan

Releasing Macks. April 3rd 2011

Written by
P4030436What a fun 1/2 day charter out of Crystal River today. I met Paul, Lynn and Dick and the Plantation Inn and the group just wanted to catch some fish. To keep it simple and since they couldn't take fish back on the plane, we anchored and chummed up the Spanish mackerel. The macks didn't disappoint us and we caught plenty throughout the morning. A few silver and speckled trout were added to the mix and free lined live shrimp was the bait of choice. All the fish were released to fight another day and here is Dick with the first mack on the morning. Great job everybody and hope to see you next time your in Florida... Capt. Dan
