Mango Madness. Aug. 16th 2011

Written by
P8160705The mangrove "mango" snapper bite was outstanding today. With the full moon in progress, the snapper congregate around the various offshore structures for their spawning rituals. Joe and Marty joined me out of the Best Western for a 1/2 day Crystal River charter and they did fantastic. It was non stop action between the snappers, numerous gag groupers and grunts. Slick seas and a light breeze made for a hot day, but the hot conditions were worth it. A live shrimp rigged on a 1/8th oz Hank Brown jig head was the bait of choice. Thank you for a fun day and enjoy the good eats... Capt. Dan

A Red Fish First. Aug. 14th 2011

Written by
P8140703What a difference a day can make. Yesterday was a beautiful day, but no breeze and it was hot! Today's welcomed 10-15 mph west breeze, made for a comfortable day on the water. My anglers on board joining me for Sunday, were Josh and Halsey and the guys were ready for a full day out of Homosassa. The trout bite was off quite a bit, due to the choppy conditions. However, we did pickup several silver trout, which we normally find to the North off Crystal River, and it was a welcomed surprise. The tide was getting right around noon to hunt some red fish, and that's how we spent the afternoon. Targeting the outside points, we caught several red fish with some being below the slot, in the slot and a over slot big bull. It was a great weekend and I thank the whole group for a fun time. Here's Josh and Halsey with their red fish that actually ate both their baits and brought in together. This was a first for me and made for a great story... Capt. Dan

P8130700It was a two day trip out of the Homosassa Fishing Club this weekend and on Saturday, I had Halsey and John on board. Starting the morning catching some trout, kept us busy for the first part of the day. Using DOA holographic rootbeer shrimp put the keepers in the cooler and lunch was secured. Shore lunch was fantastic with the all the fixings and with the tide rushing in, it was time to find some red fish. My crew caught some beautiful reds and today's bait of choice was a fresh cut piece of lady fish. Thank you both for a fun day and here is John with one of our red fish... Capt. Dan

P8120695I think today's heat hit a record for the hottest day charter, so far...  Steve and Travis joined me for a day of inshore fishing out of Crystal River. We began the day targeting some trout and had some great action, but mostly shorts for the majority of the trout we caught. The few keepers we had were quality sized fish and the new penny gulp was the only bait working today. Our next stop was to find some red fish and I delivered. At the the first two points there were no takers, but on the third stop, it was fish on. In short order we had our limit and a free lined shrimp did the trick. It was definitely a hot one, but the guys fished hard, had a bucket full of fish and another fun day on the water. Here is Travis with the big trout of the day... Capt. Dan
