It was day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club and my lucky anglers today were Dennis, Carson and Peter. We began the trip drifting the flats off St. Martins Keys and it was a slow start to the morning. The trout bite was fair at best, and between the four other boats; only 10 keeper trout were brought in before our noon shore lunch. Today's shore luch was great with the added grouper from yesterday's big haul and everyone had a great fried fish feast. We finished up from the island and caught a few red fish with the afternoon incoming tide to end our day. Thanks to everyone for a great two days and here's my crew with their catch... Capt. Dan
I've been very blessed as a fishing guide to have some great days on the water and once in a while you have one of those days that make you say - "WOW" what a day. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today with Captains Mark Zorn, Jim Long and William Toney and I had the pleasure of having Yancey, Mark and Keith on board for the day. With the inshore trout bite a little slow on low water, I said hold on guys, we're going offshore to troll up some grouper. It was rough with the 3ft swells, but the bite was well worth it. We trolled in the 25ft range and had a easy limit of gags. The only problem was, the slow 10mph ride in from 16 miles which was a bumpy ride. Once inshore, we made a couple drifts for trout off the "Keys", and picked up some keepers to add to the mix. For the final touch of the day, we free lined some shrimp on the rocky points and put a couple beautiful Homosassa red fish to end the day. All I can say is thank you guys and congratulations on a fine day of fishing... Capt. Dan
A little choppy today offshore, but Jim and Terry were ready to give some Crystal River grouper trolling a try. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina this morning and made our way offshore to about the 28ft range. We sent down the plugs over some hard bottom ledges and found some nice grouper. The hot color plugs for the day were the bunker and chartreuse and silver Rapala x-rap 20's. We caught our four gags pretty quick and stopped on a rock pile pile to catch a little variety of species. Mangrove snapper, mackerel and grunts were keeping us busy and a live shrimp on a 1/8thoz Hank Brown jig head was the bait of choice. I thank you both for the great day and enjoy all the fish... A perfect morning red fish tide and Bill, Joe and Mel experienced some fine red fishing. I picked the guys up from Pete's Pier Marina at 8am and we made our run North to get an early jump on the incoming tide. We targeted the rocky points with mullet activity and presented live shrimp to find our red fish. We caught several under slot red fish throughout the charter and I always enjoy seeing a good crop of upcoming red fish for the coming years; to go along with the keepers. Following the tide South, we caught a couple more nice red fish until the tide topped out. The trout bite was slow once again, but once the sea breeze kicked in and the tide turned, we had some action. Only one keeper made its way to the cooler, but several shorts kept us busy to end our afternoon. A couple mixed catches of mackerel, snapper and black drum were added to the cooler and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan
