South Wind Trout. April 4th 2011

Written by
P4040438A pretty day out of Crystal River, but we had a steady 15mph South wind to contend with. I had my annual clients from Maine on board today. DJ and Dave were back once again for some inshore fishing. We started the day working the oyster bars and catching trout after trout, but they they were all on the short side. The winds switched to high gear, so we mad a long run to get out of the wind and make the conditions more enjoyable. The keepers starting coming and the guys had some upper slot trout with a few over the 20" mark. DOA deadly combos with the glow cal shad paddle tail was today's bait of choice. We left the trout and found a few redfish back in the creeks and a lost mackerel. I thank you guys for the fun day and I hope it starts to warm up for you when you get back home. Here is DJ with a beautiful 21" trout... Capt. Dan

Releasing Macks. April 3rd 2011

Written by
P4030436What a fun 1/2 day charter out of Crystal River today. I met Paul, Lynn and Dick and the Plantation Inn and the group just wanted to catch some fish. To keep it simple and since they couldn't take fish back on the plane, we anchored and chummed up the Spanish mackerel. The macks didn't disappoint us and we caught plenty throughout the morning. A few silver and speckled trout were added to the mix and free lined live shrimp was the bait of choice. All the fish were released to fight another day and here is Dick with the first mack on the morning. Great job everybody and hope to see you next time your in Florida... Capt. Dan

High Tide Trout. April 2nd 2011

Written by
P4020433It was day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club for the annual Jaboree. The Smith family was on board today and we began by thinning out the lady fish population. Lady fish after lady fish found their way onto the end of our DOA deadly combos for the first part of the day. At noon, we took a break and pulled up to the island and prepared our famous Homosassa shore lunch. With our belly's full and the tide was making high the trout bite was on. Carter and Laura caught some beautiful trout and ended the day with a beautiful catch. Thanks for a fun couple days and look forward to seeing you all again soon... Capt. Dan

Big Surprise. April. 1st 2011

Written by
P4010431After a couple days of high winds and heavy rain, it was good to be back on the water. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today, with fellow Homosassa Guides Association members Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt and Charlie Harris for the annual Jaboree. The Jaboree consists of husband and wife teams and I had the West family on board today. The trout bite was a little slow for the first part of the morning, but once the tide made up it's mind and came in, the trout turned on. Our big surprise today was hooking into a large black drum that gave our light tackle a great work out. A beautiful day on the water and I thank you both for a fun day. Here is Tom with the big drum... Capt. Dan
