P8120695I think today's heat hit a record for the hottest day charter, so far...  Steve and Travis joined me for a day of inshore fishing out of Crystal River. We began the day targeting some trout and had some great action, but mostly shorts for the majority of the trout we caught. The few keepers we had were quality sized fish and the new penny gulp was the only bait working today. Our next stop was to find some red fish and I delivered. At the the first two points there were no takers, but on the third stop, it was fish on. In short order we had our limit and a free lined shrimp did the trick. It was definitely a hot one, but the guys fished hard, had a bucket full of fish and another fun day on the water. Here is Travis with the big trout of the day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Variety. Aug. 11th 2011

P8110693After cancelling and rescheduling the last several days due to torrential rains, it was great to be back on the water. The Morrissey family joined me today out of Pete's Pier for a 1/2 day Crystal River charter. We began working the deeper spotty bottom grass patches in 10ft of water and catching several trout. The water was quite dirty due to the recent rains, but it didn't seem to affect the trouts appetite. We put a couple keepers in the cooler and our next stop was to add some grunts, snapper, flounder, etc... to the mix. With the tide running in and the West wind, made for anchoring a breeze and shortly it was fish on. We caught our mixed bag and called it a day. Thank you all for a wonderful time and look for forward to seeing you again on your next visit... Capt. Dan

P8040679John and Samantha joined me for a 1/2 day Crystal River charter and we did a little inshore and offshore fishing. We left from Pete's Pier marina this morning and started the day working the inshore islands. Using my favorite plug, the Yo-Zuri mag darter, we caught a couple snook, trout and jack crevelles for the first hour of fishing. Having a great start to the day and calm seas, we ran out to 20ft of water and tried some offshore deeper structures. Once we anchored up, four cobia greeted us, and immediately had instant hook ups. Landing two cobia in short order, a couple mackerel, numerous grunts and breaking off a large Goliath grouper; we had an outstanding day. Thank you both for a fun morning and hope to see you soon... Capt. Dan
