Crystal River Trout. Oct. 13th 2010

PA130176The trout bite still continues to be hot. I had Sid and Stan on board today out of Pete's Pier for a 1/2 day charter. We left the marina at 8am and our first stop was to try and find a red fish or two. Well, we caught five but all were under the slot and with the tide running out hard we didn't stay to try and find any more. Next we ran offshore to the 5ft to 8ft grass flats and did well on the trout. We had to move around to find the keepers, but after a few stops we had plenty in the cooler. There are still some very large sharks around and we had two jump out of the water after our cork rigs today "a little scary". On a final note this was Sids 80th birthday and he did a fantastic job. Thanks guys for the great day and I'll see you next time...Capt. Dan
PA120172Another week of perfect weather! I met Bill and Fred at Pete's Pier this morning and we ran from the inside out. We started off the morning catching some trout, pompano, sea bass, mackerel, and numerous lady fish to get the day going. The fish were chewing pretty good inshore, but with the perfect conditions the guys said "how about a grouper". We put up the trout rods and headed west out to 25ft. This time of year is ideal for trolling plugs and the grouper are getting more aggressive with the cooling temperatures. Today's hot color was the chartreuse and silver yo-zuri mag minnow. We kept three nice gags and released a few cobia, mackerel and a short grouper before we called it a day. This trip has been in the works for a while and I thank you Bill and Fred for a memorable day on the water. Here are the guys with a great catch... Capt. Dan
PA110168The Cotton State Insurance Corporation had there annual fishing tournament held out of Macrae's on the Homosassa river today. This is always a fun event and today was no different. I had Matt and Ron on board and we had a fantastic day. The trout bite was excellent in the morning and  boated 13 keeper trout on the DOA deadly combos. To mix up the day we tried trolling for some grouper, but came up with only shorts. We did have a couple of nice surprises for the day, including a beautiful 17lb king fish and a hefty pompano to add to our total weight. At the scales we had 39lbs which was good enough for second place, while my good friend Capt. Rick Spratt took the top prize. Thanks for a great event and to Matt and Ron for an enjoyable day. Here is Matt with his pompano that was caught on the first cast of the day... Capt. Dan

PA090166Trout, red fish, mackerel, pompano, black drum and sea bass made there way into our boats, for day two of the Homosassa Fishing Club's John Turman party. I had John, Tommy and George on board today and we took the top boat with most keepers in the cooler. 19 was our lucky number and had an outstanding morning. Ideal conditions once again and DOA deadly combos were our bait of choice. We fished until noon and finished up the day on the island preparing a great shore lunch. Thanks to all the members for a fun couple of days and here is the entire group with all there fish. Look forward to our trip again next year... Capt. Dan
