P7270658Gene and Linda joined me again for a 1/2 day Crystal River charter and they brought their grandsons along to sample some saltwater fishing. The wind was blowing pretty good out of the south, so we stayed close to shore and targeted some shallow ledges. Mangrove snapper, sea bass, a cobia and numerous grouper kept our rods bent throughout the morning. Actually, the grouper bite was outstanding and even though they were under slot sized fish, we had them on two, three at a time. I estimated releasing well over 30 grouper on two locations, until we ran out of shrimp. Lots of action and everyone did great. Thank you for the fun morning and here is Jordon with a mangrove snapper from today's trip... Capt. Dan
P7240655The scalloping off Homosassa continues to be outstanding. There are fair numbers in the shallow water, but for those who don't mind the deeper 5ft to 7ft depths, the picking is excellent. Myself and Captains Rick Spratt and William Toney over the last couple days, have put our clients on their 10 gallon limits in just a couple hours. This season is exceptionally good, so grab the family and have a great day on the water. Thanks to everyone over past few days and here is Janice with her first bag of the day... Capt. Dan

Non Stop Action. July. 23rd 2011

Written by
P7230652We hit the mother-load today out of Crystal River and Chris, Jake, Jason and Eric had their hands full. We met at Pete's Pier this morning and made our run offshore. Jumping from rock pile to rock pile we caught grouper, grunts, snapper, sea bass, mackerel, etc... The bite was steady all day considering the long outgoing tide and calm seas made for a picture perfect day.. The mackerel bite was the main attraction and it was one after another, while we were watching them attack our shrimp right next to the boat. The snapper didn't cooperate as well as they did yesterday, but we did pick up a few. After an hour at the cleaning table and feeding the tarpon " I actually think I finally made them full" the day was complete. Thanks guys for the outstanding day, enjoy the fish and look forward to seeing you again soon...
P7220647Wow! What an awesome day and for today's clients first time saltwater fishing, they got to see it all. Mark and Mary Beth met me at Pete's Pier and once again, I ran offshore to the rocks and ledges for some outstanding bottom fishing action. We fished a little deeper today and caught a great variety of grouper, cobia, grunts, snapper, flounder, sea bass, mackerel and sharks. Just a live shrimp on a jig head was the bait of choice. After a cooler full of groceries off the rocks, we ran a bit farther offshore and  picked up a couple keeper trout. While we were jigging for trout a large school of jack crevelle came through and it was three on at a time. It was total chaos, and it even got crazier when the sharks came through and bit our jacks in half. It really makes you appreciate how awesome large sharks are especially when they get in to a feeding frenzy. It was a day to remember and thank you both for a fun time. Here is Mark and Mary Beth with a cobia from today's trip... Capt. Dan
