I ran south today and targeted some of the rock piles off Homosassa. Bill, Jerry and Richard met me at Macrae's this morning and running out with a pleasant NE breeze, it almost seemed to have a hint of fall in the air. We fish in the 10ft to 12ft range and caught a variety of species including gag grouper, cobia, grunts, flounder, mangrove snapper and Spanish Mackerel. Once again just a simple 1/8th oz Hank Brown jig head rigged with a live shrimp was the bait of choice. The guys did great and weren't to mad at me when I had to release a few keeper sized gag grouper due to the new regulations. Here's the crew with their great catch... Capt. Dan
I joined my good friends and clients Dave and Bob today and showed them some Homosassa shortcuts. Riding in Dave's beautiful Ranger bay boat, we saved some tracks and waypoints to help the guys catch a few extra fish. After an hour or so of learning the ropes, we ran out to about 6ft of water and picked up some trout. Using DOA deadly combos in the holographic watermelon shrimp color, was our bait of choice. We put a handful of keepers in the cooler and the mid day heat coming down, we called it a day. Thanks guys as always for the fun time and I'll see you soon for our grouper trip. Here's Bob with a couple of today's trout.. Capt. Dan
A fun day out of Homosassa with fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains William and Eric Toney and we loaded up on scallops. I had the Mott family on board and we met the group at Macrae's at 10am and our next stop was the scallop grounds. We anchored up in the 5ft depth range and it was easy pickings. The conditions were ideal, the long outgoing tide and crystal clear water made the day perfect. All three boats had their 10 gallon limit and we beat the thunderstorms in plenty of time. Thank you all for the fun time and here's my crew with their scallops... Capt. Dan
This was the day I've been waiting for! Perfect tides and calm seas made for ideal conditions to make our run offshore to the 20ft range and see whats happening. Jim, Michelle and James joined me out of Pete's Pier for a full day of outstanding offshore action. Grouper after grouper, grunts, snapper, cobia, mackerel, sea bass, flounder etc.. were the species today. It was truly about as good as it gets. Using live shrimp on a 1/8th oz Hank Brown jig head in the chartreuse color was our tackle of choice. With a cooler full of fish and the summer heat pounding down mid afternoon, we called it a day. Thank you all for the great time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
