Our annual group trip out of Macrae's was today and I had Terry and David on board. Captains Don Chancey and William Toney were on the trip as well and we all had our orders for catching enough fish for tomorrow nights fish fry. I started trying to make a run offshore, but the seas were not favorable to doing so. A steady west wind around 10 to 15 knots just made it to tough to head for the deeper spotty bottom areas that have been so productive. Instead, we stayed shallow and had a pretty good morning using DOA deadly combos in the holographic watermelon and root beer colors. David and Terry boated 6 keeper trout, a Spanish mackerel and released several shorts for our morning charter. All the boats averaged about the same catch and there was plenty of fish for the upcoming dinner. Thanks to whole group for the great time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
A fun 1/2 day charter out of Crystal River, with a steady 15mph west wind to contend with. Marshall and Sherry met me at Pete's Pier this morning and we started out the morning catching a few keeper trout targeting the shallow spotty bottom areas. The DOA deadly combos were our baits of choice and one again the holographic root beer didn't let us down. The tide was rushing in due to the full moon high tides, so it was time to find a red fish. Our first couple of spots were a little slow, but we found them and we boated seven beautiful red fish in no time. Thank you both for a great morning and look forward to seeing you again soon... Quite a variety today out of Crystal River and an always welcomed surprise when a couple pompano come aboard. Dave, Rick, Heath and Larry met me at Pete's Pier this morning and this great group of guys just wanted to catch some fish. So for guaranteed action, we ran offshore and did some jigging. The bite was pretty good today until the seas went flat. No breeze and little tide movement slows the fishing down, but when the sea breeze kicked in, the fish fired right up. We had a great mixed catch of sea bass, pompano, trout, grunts, lady fish, flounder, sharks etc... and the group had well over a 100 fish day. Using a combination of DOA holographic root beer shrimp and camo colored gulps were all we needed for success. Thanks guys for the fun day and here is Rick with one of today's pompano... Capt. Dan
I had previously donated a 1/2 day charter for the Breast Cancer Foundation and today's anglers were the winners of the auction. Bill and Kenny met me at Pete's Pier this morning and we were off through the creeks to find a red fish. We started out on the same key that we did so well on yesterday, and the reds were there. We picked a nice keeper right away and another before the bite quit. Free lined shrimp on a circle hook and targeting the mullet schools were the ticket. We left the red fish and finished out the morning catching some trout on the DOA deadly combos. We put a few keepers in the cooler and released several shorts before we returned back to the marina at noon. Thanks guys for the fun morning and it was great to help such a wonderful organization. Look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
