1/2 Day in Homosassa June 12th 2010

P6120242Today was day two for me at the Homosassa Fishing Club. I had the pleasure of having husband and wife teams on board and they were fantastic. Jim, Candi, Virgina and Kenny joined me for a 1/2 day Homosassa charter. We ran to the area that we did so well in yesterday, and in was fish on, soon as our lines hit the water. We were playing the numbers game to compete with the other guides ( Captains William Toney, Gary Cox, Mark Zorn ) and we totaled 82 fish before 11:30. Numerous trout, sea bass, grouper, grunts, lady fish, etc... all counted for our total. However, we ended up in second place while Capt. Mark Zorn took the prize with all most a hundred fish caught. Our boat ended up with a great catch of 8 keeper trout and 4 really nice sea bass to end our 1/2 day trip. A big thanks for a great couple of days and I'll see you next time. Here is the crew with a couple of today's trout.... Capt. Dan
P6110241I fished the Homosassa Fishing Club today and it was a good one. I had Kenny, John, Jamie and Jim on board and we loaded up on the trout. We left the club around 8:30 am and ran off shore to the deeper grass flats. The trout were waiting and it was truly cast after cast action. Numerous short trout were on our lines and for the longest time I was getting worried about getting a keeper. Finally they started rolling in one at a time and before we knew it we had a cooler full. The DOA glow shrimp on a 1/8oz jig head was the bait of choice today. Looking forward to tomorrows trip guys and I'll see you in the morning....Capt. Dan
P6100234All I can say is that I'm very blessed to be as busy as I am, and the fishing is truly fantastic. I had a wonderful family out of Crystal River today and we loaded up on some quality offshore trout. Dennis, Mary Ann and Alex were ready to have something tug on there lines and I quickly obliged. We started our drifts in 8ft to 10ft of water, and my ever reliable DOA shrimp in the holographic watermelon color and a couple of white gulps put the trout in the boat. We also had a couple mackerel and a sea bass to add to the mix. After our angler trout limit we ran into the creeks to find a red fish but no takers today. We could see them, but they ignored our shrimp and cruised on by. Thanks to you all for another great day on the water and enjoy tonight's fish dinner... Capt. Dan

Sheepshead Season Jan.26th 2010

Written by
HPIM1926It's been a long time in the making, but the sheepshead are finally showing up.The arctic blast we experienced here in Crystal River and Homosassa a few weeks ago sent our gulf water temperature plummeting into the low 40's. These temperatures have delayed the much anticipated sheepshead from migrating inshore. However, the water temperature is back in the low 60's and the fish are moving in. Targeting the hard bottom areas between Crystal River and Homosassa will be the hot spots for the next couple of months. Grouper and trout are closed for the month of February; so fishing for these convict fish is a great "and tasty" alternative to take some fish home for a meal or two. Here is Ryan with a Crystal River sheepshead that could not resist a live shrimp... Good Fishin' Capt. Dan
