P9180142Another fantastic day out of Crystal River with clients Bill, Gary and Andy. I met the gang at Pete's Pier, 8am sharp and with the tide running in I suggested quickly getting our red fish limit. They guys were game and by 9:30am we boated 9 red fish, kept our limit and released a few others. There was a request for some fillets for tomorrows fish fry, so offshore we went and found some real nice quality sized trout. We had 11 keepers and numerous shorts throughout the afternoon. A combination of DOA shrimp and Berkly gulps on deadly combo rigs were the ticket today. Thanks guys for the outstanding day and here is today's catch... Capt. Dan

P9170138Wow! the red fishing is truly fantastic right now. I had Robert, Shawn and Patrick out of Crystal River for a full day inshore charter. The tide was making high early this morning so we ran south to the keys and targeted the red fish schools. The bite was on and in three cast we had three keepers. They weren't the big bulls I have been seeing, but all were beautiful 21" to 23" red fish. On the next point Shawn hooked into a good one, and brought in a beautiful 29" red fish that couldn't resist a free lined live shrimp. After our red fish limit we ran off shore and caught plenty of trout. It was another one of those tough condition days with very little breeze and a slow out going tide; but we did manage seven keeper trout and some mackerel to finish up the day. Thanks again guys for the fun trip and here is Shawn with his big Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

Chazz Reds Sept. 16th 2010

caderedToday was boat service day and I religiously have it serviced at Gulf Coast Marine in Homosassa every 100hrs.  After I dropped the boat off, I stopped by the Outcast tackle shop in Homosassa and my good friend and owner Capt. Cade Burgdorf said "hey man lets go fishing". I always enjoy a day on the water with Cade because he knows the waters around here better than anyone I know ( it's one heck of a ride). We loaded up his custom Carolina skiff and off we were, deep into the chassahowitzka back country. We hit several points sight-fishing for red fish and saw a few, but nothing really special. Once we headed a little farther south and we found the mother load of red fish. On one particular point we saw schools and schools of upper to over slot red fish and immediately hooked up again and again. No need for live bait today, a combination of Rapala twitch'n raps and Mirr-O-Lure Mirrodines did the trick. One the way in we had to try for a snook and Cade picked up one on the first cast to put the icing on the cake. Thanks as always buddy for the memorable day and it's grouper next time in my boat. Here is one of the larger reds from the morning...Capt. Dan

Macks and Trout Sept. 11 2010

Written by
P9110134Today was the final day of the Dr. Kokko's party at the Homosassa Fishing Club. I did something a little different today and targeted Spanish mackerel for the first part of the day. Todd and John were aboard and were ready for some drag screaming action. We set up on some hard bottom and started chumming. In no time we had a large school of ballyhoo next to the boat, and I quickly threw the cast next and loaded up on bait. A combination of chum, free lined live shrimp and fresh cut ballyhoo kept the macks in a feeding frenzy. We kept 15 and left them biting. There was a slight breeze today which was all I needed to get the trout bite going. They trout didn't disappoint and 9 keepers made there way into the cooler. I only had a hour to put the guys on some reds and we did catch a few. We boated four but nothing of any size. The sky was turning black to the east and we called it a day. Thanks to the whole group for a fun couple days and hope to see you all next year. Here is Todd with a hefty trout caught on a DOA deadly combo... Capt. Dan
