Crystal River Mix...

A great day to wrap up my month of June with Joe on board for an awesome mixed bag. Joe and I covered some ground today as we began tackling a fine limit of gags and a whopper cobia. Dropping down live pin fish got it done for us and really caught a lot of gags in the 23" range. We added a couple trout and to top off the day, we were blessed and boated a beautiful tarpon just under the hundred pound mark. What a day and great job Joe. As I write this I'm backing my bags and headed to Wyoming Monday morning. I'll be there the entire month of July and I'll do my best to post some updates and fishing reports. All the best and see you all soon.... Capt. Dan

Good Weather Gags...

A terrific day both weather wise and the bite was pretty good for Paul and Cindy today. The husband and wife team met me at the Plantation on Crystal River and we headed West. I loaded the live wells with pin fish and set up on a couple shallow rocks and ledges. The action was pretty good on the morning incoming tide and the team knocked down three real nice keepers in no time. It took a little bit to get the fourth fish, but we got'em and the day was a success. I thank you both for the great day and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Gags....

A solid day grouper digging with Dean and Jim and the guys did great. I made a run out to 22ft of water and the gags were there. Live pin fish on bottom rigs were the deal and we even caught a whopper of a nurse shark as well. A couple grunts and snapper were added to the cooler and the heat eventually made us call it a day. Thank you both and great job... Capt. Dan

Today was Jim's last day and we finished up his couple of days, tackling some grouper. Him and I ran offshore a bit to around 15ft of water and dropped down on a little ledge for some gags. The action started right away and we turned some good ones. Live pin fish and pig fish were the ticket and grouper on the grill was what's for dinner. The last week has been great from snook, red fish, tarpon and grouper; we covered a lot of ground and fished in some really tough condition's. I thank you buddy and Jim, myself and our wives will be in Wyoming for the month of July enjoying the trout streams... Capt. Dan

Fun size Tarpon...

Well Jim and I decided to give the little tarpon a try again today and we did well, plus some real nice snook in Crystal River. We were able to get out of the continuing West wind were having and make a day out of it. The tarpon took a clouser minnow and the snook, on the ever reliable DOA glow jerk bait. A fun time and here's my first little tarpon on the fly... Capt. Dan

Small Tarpon...

A little something different today and something I've been wanting to do for a while. Jim and I went exploring back in the canals and creeks in our area and found some little tarpon I've known about for a while. We scaled back the fly rods to an 8wt and little clouser minnow flies for these guys. We had a really fun time as we jumped a couple and brought one on board for a quick photo opportunity. Mission accomplished and thank you buddy for the fun day.... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Snook....

It was day two with my good friend Jim on board and we headed south to Homosassa. I had hopes in making it for tarpon, but it was howling way to much out of the West. So, for plan B, we hit the creeks back in Mason Creek and did well on the snook. I kept it simple, put the trolling motor down and hit the points with DOA glow jerk baits. Jim brought a couple nice snook in the 30" range to the boat and we saved the day despite the windy conditions.... Capt. Dan

Snook in Between the Rain....

We're back in the rainy forecast for a couple days and I did another late take off today. I have my good friend Jim in town for a couple days and unfortunately we couldn't head out until 11am. However, we did hit the window for some clear weather and did well on the snook. I eased him along in the back country and used DOA glow jerk baits on the points with good current flow. The skies began to turn dark around 3pm and we headed back to the dock to wrap up the day. A good time buddy and we'll see what the next couple days bring... Capt. Dan

Homosassa 1/2 Day...

We did the 10am to 2pm shift today for the Manriki group out of Macrae's in Homosassa with my great captain friends Mark Zorn and William Toney. I had the pleasure of having Jim, David and Terry on board and we did really well on trout. I haven't been doing much inshore fishing lately but from what I've heard, the trout bite has been slow. Well, I did what I felt was a good area and it was a great call. The team picked up eight real nice trout on cork rigs and bourbon colored Lil' Johns were the ticket. We left the trout flats picked up a couple red fish and it sure was a good time. We beat the afternoon rain storms by just a couple minutes, I thank you all we'll do it again next year... Capt. Dan

Grouper w/ the Mayor....

Finally the weather has changed and it was good to get back out. On today's trip I had the pleasure of having Crystal River's Mayor, Joe Meek on board and his family. He's been wanting to fish with me for such a long time and I had a opening and they were ready to go. I took the guys shallow water grouper digging and they loved it. We fished some small ledges and sent down the pin fish. The team totaled over 20 gags with a couple real nice keepers for their trip. I thank you all and you did a great job on the fish... Capt. Dan
