Trolling Gags & Red Fish....

We beat the rain back at the dock just by minutes today and the morning action was "AWESOME". Don and Mike joined me today out of Crystal River and we left Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am. I had the trolling rods ready and usually by the 20th of September if the floating grass isn't to bad - it's time to troll. "My favorite way to target gags". We set out the plugs and worked various hard bottom areas and did very well. The first fish was a hefty 17lber and the others were good quality gags. After the guys trolled up their limit, I ran to the back country and free lined some live shrimp to add some red fish to the mix. A great day and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

It has been a fun week fishing the Maddox party at the Homosassa Fishing Club and sadly, today was the last day. John and John were on board with me for the day and we hit a couple spots for red fish to get the day going. We found a keeper and a couple shorts, but I really wanted to find at least one more grouper for the guys to take home. I made a short run to a shallow ledge, anchored up and chummed with some thread fins. It took a little while and the bite was slow to get going. Finally, the grouper woke up and we had a break off, a couple shorts "a surprising red grouper" and a fine keeper gag before we had to be back at the dock at noon. A great couple days and I look forward to seeing you all next year... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Grouper....

The day to go offshore!!! Wow, it was like a lake out there today and Joihn and Carter caught some beautiful grouper. The guys and I made the run to about 15ft of water and anchored up on one of my favorite rocks. I began chumming, sent down some thread fin herring and the bite was on. The team caught a fine limit of gag grouper, some tasty mangrove snapper and grunts for the day. I made a drift for some trout on the way in and we caught several shorts, but John came up with the only keeper. Still, we had an awesome day and congratulations on the outstanding catch... Capt. A really good day out of the Homosassa Fishing Club with Dr. Coco and John for a day of battling grouper and red fish. Today's trip began targeting red fish on the outer keys using a combination of cut lady fish, pin fish and live shrimp. The red fish bite was good and the guys caught five nice keepers and a few shorts for the morning hours. As the tide dropped out, I made a run to a ledge in 11ft of water and put out a spread of thread fin herring for some grouper. It didn't take long and we were battling some heavy weight gags and the guys did awesome. A fun day and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Seafood Platter....

A fine mixed bag today and a great family to enjoy it. Hunter, Patrick and Phillip joined me today out of the Plantation on Crystal River for a day of bending the rod. I had a nice "much needed" weekend off to rest up for another long stretch and today, I was ready to go get them. Targeting some red fish on the outer keys on the outgoing tide started our day and the young boys each caught a keeper before the water dropped out - and then headed offshore. The shallow rocks were on fire with plenty of snapper, grunts, small gags and four nice keeper flounder kept us busy through out the day. A fun time and I thank you all for the great trip. Here's Hunter with one of our beautiful Crystal River flounder.. Capt. Dan

Red Grouper Update!!!

Good news offshore anglers, I just received an email from NOAA fisheries and they extended the red grouper season to Oct.4th. This year the season was to close on Sept. 16th, but based upon updated landings; the season is extended. Red grouper action has been excellent in 30ft-45ft of water. Good fishing.. Capt. Dan

Fishing With Bill Miller....

Today was a day that you dream about and thankfully it was my day. I filmed an upcoming show with my great friend Capt. Bill Miller for the World Fishing Network and we found the gags. We fished the shallow rocks and caught some heavy weight gags and some other surprises. The show will air some time in 2015, so stay tuned and I "KNOW" you'll enjoy it.... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Good Day....

A fine day on the water off Crystal River today with Bill and Kerry. These gentlemen did very well landing some fine shallow water grouper fishing the 10ft range, and there were some really quality sized gags. While in between the grouper bites, the snapper and grunts kept us busy as well with non stop action. Live shrimp on Hank Brown jig heads were the baits of choice. To wrap up the day, the guys had a fine catch of trout drifting the spotty bottom in the 7ft depth range. A great day and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Grouper...

A little different trip for me today, but it was a great one. I had the pleasure of fishing my regular clients Lee and Clell in their beautiful 30ft Hydra-Sports center console and run offshore to the grouper grounds. I entered some of my favorite spots in my hand held GPS and we ran SW. We made two stops in the 30ft range and the red and gag grouper bite was fantastic. The team caught their limit of eight keepers and so many shorts, we lost count. We pulled anchor just before noon and headed back to the dock. A great day and I thank you both for a fun day. Here's the father and son team with a fine catch of Crystal River Grouper... Capt. Dan

A beautiful day with great clients and friends. Mishel & Earl joined me once again out of Crystal River for fish catching day. Grouper was on the menu and we anchored up on one of my favorite shallow ledges in 12ft of water and sent down the baits. The bite was on immediately and in short order we put a couple fine gags in the box, a couple break offs and a pair of fun size cobia. I could feel it was time to give trolling a try, so we ran out a few more miles and put out the plugs. Mishel caught a fine pair of a gag grouper to top off their limit and on the way back to shore; she added a hefty 34" red fish to end the day. A great time as always and I thank you both again...
