Homosassa Offshore...

What a day to go offshore. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club fishing the Smith party with fellow Homosassa Guide Association Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, Johnathan Hamilton, Jody Johnson and Mike Baize. I had Matt, Robinson and Tom on board for the day and we headed West. I ran to some of my favorite high profile rocks in 12ft of water to check on the sheepshead. The sheepshead bite was excellent and we kept about a dozen on the first rock, before we ran to 22ft of water to add some other goodies to the mix. Once we anchored in 20ft of water, the action was awesome. Numerous grunts, keeper sized gags and a beautiful bonus hog fish filled out our afternoon. The guys had a blast and a box full of fish to show for it. I thank you all for the great day and here's Robinson with a beautiful Homosassa Hog Fish... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trolling Gags...

It was day two with the West family and Tom and his dad Herbert had a ball. The weather was much more favorable today and we were able to spend more time tackling some grouper. However, I took a minute and a quick stop in the river to catch a couple snook before we headed West. After a couple small fun sized snook, we made our run to 20ft of water and put out the plugs. I stayed off Crystal River today and even though the water is dirty, we trolled up a fine limit of gags. They were wanting natural colors and only one came on a orange Rapala x-rap 20. To end our trip, I anchored up on a small rock and found some early arrival sheepshead and a few grunts to wrap up our day. I thank you both for a fun couple of days and look forward to seeing you soon... Capt. Dan

Flat Calm Grouper...

What a day! Calm sea's, cleaner water and the gags were feeding aggressively. I had my good friends and clients on board; Clell, Lee and Roy for the day day and it was awesome. Not a ripple on the gulf and it was smooth sailing to our destinations. The team did fantastic trolling up a beautiful limit of gags and our next step was anchoring down and catching some grunts. The grunts were hammering the shrimp and it was three on at a time. Roy had the lucky rod and landed a beautiful hog fish to add to the catch. A great day and I thank you all for the fun time... Flat Calm Grouper....

Today was the old saying "you could have taken a canoe offshore" kind of day; and I was very pleased to have Joe and Joanne experience it. We left from Pete's Pier just before 9am and made or way offshore. We reached the 25ft range after about a 45 minute run and quickly trolled up a limit of quality sized gag grouper. Rapala x-rap 20's were the plugs of the day and our next target was bottom fishing for a mix of species. Grunts, mango snapper, trigger fish and a hog fish kept us busy and we had a smooth ride home back to the dock. Thank you both for the great time and I'll see you soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore...

A long time in the making, but I was able to take my good friend Capt. Matt Flemming out today. We left the dock after 8am and made our way south off Crystal River. We fished the 25ft range and though it was a little bit choppy during the morning hours, the seas calmed later in the afternoon. The grouper bite was a slow one with not much happening until the latter part of the day, but they eventually turned on "full moon blues". In between grouper bites, we added a mix of grunts and a couple bonus hog fish to the mix to fill out the day. The water continues to be extremely dirty and trolling isn't all that productive. Bottom fishing is going to be your best bet in the shallow water, until the water clears. Thanks Matt again for a fun day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River 20lb club...

An incredible day again offshore Crystal River and we hit the 20lb mark today. Matt and Phil were with me for their final day and they guys hit it out of the park. I ran to one of my favorite grouper ledges, sent down the tread fin herring and "WHAM", it was on. We actually missed the first couple of fish and the hook pulled; but thankfully no break offs to shut the bite down. Matt had big fish honors with a 20lb trophy he turned bottom fishing, which was no easy task and I must say I was thoroughly impressed. The team reached their limit and added a load of grunts to take back to Pennsylvania. Thank you both for a very fun couple of days and always look forward to our charters... Capt. Dan

An awesome bite offshore today and the grouper were running down the plugs. I had Gary, Ron and Josh on board for the day and we made the run to the 25ft range and trolled up a beautiful limit of hefty gags. The grouper were biting well and four of the keepers today were over the 12lb mark up to 17lbs. The team finished up their limit by noon; and we anchored down and filled the cooler with some grunts to add some more tasty fillets to the mix. I'm not sure how the next couple of days will play out with the strong cold front coming, but we'll keep our fingers crossed and hope the fishing stays good... Capt. Dan

A great day with an old friend. Bo joined me for the day and I haven't fished with him for close to 15yrs. I went to school with Bo throughout the years, played all the sports together and it sure was a fun to be on the boat together again. Today we ran way south to put some time on the new engine and break her in right. We trolled up a limit of gags up to 17lbs and only took one fish on each rock we trolled over. I've been dying to catch a hog fish on hook and line and I've spear fished several, but never on rod and reel. Well, I stopped on a high profile rock in 23ft of water and finally did it. We had to cull through lots of grunts, but mission accomplished "and we actually caught two". I thank you Bo for the fun day and please check out my Crystal River Fishing Facebook page for additional pictures as always.

You couldn't have ordered up a more beautiful day. Skip, Chuck and Dave were with me for their annual offshore grouper trip and they hit it out of the park once again. We left the marina and were welcomed to calm seas and hungry grouper. We trolled our Rapala x-raps over a couple different structures and reached our six fish limit by 11:30am. The guys did great and they have their annual church fish fry coming up; so we anchored down and filled the cooler with tasty grunts. A perfect day and I thank you all again for the great time... Big Shark, Gags & Grunts...

A nice mix on today's Crystal River charter with Sam and Frank and the seas have calmed to make it back on the water. I took the team offshore for the day and we had some very good action. From 15ft of water to 25ft, we caught plenty of fine eating grunts, gag grouper and released several keeper sized red grouper. Sam had big fish honors with a large 7ft shark that gave him a great fight to remember. We actually got it boat side for some cool pictures and sent it on its way. A fun day and I thank you both for the great time... Capt. Dan
