With days like today, we're so blessed to live in Florida. Todd and Tom were my anglers for this Crystal River Charter and we had the full day to tackle some trout and red fish. With a low tide this morning, we made the rounds and found some real nice quality trout. From the shallows off the keys to the scatted rock piles, the trout action was good; soon as the tide started moving in. I've been wanting to red fish for a while and today we finally had the tide to do so. I made a run to the North side of Ozello, free lined some live shrimp and it was fish on! The guys caught some beautiful red fish from under slot to over and even had one cut us off on the rocks. It was a very fun day and I thank you both for a great time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Inside & Out...

A beautiful day on the water with Joanne and Joe on board for their charter out of Crystal River. I assured them the trout action has been great and we made our run offshore. We began drifting some spotty bottom areas in 5ft of water and caught a nice mixed bag.  Trout, macks, pompano, lady fish, grouper, etc.... kept us busy and a combination of bourbon and watermelon colored MirrOlure Lil' Johns were the ticket. We left the variety show and made a run to check on a cobia spot, but no one was home today. To end our charter, we hit a couple points and found some red fish both above and below the slot to top off the day. I thank you both for the wonderful time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River-Grand Slam!!!

My guest Matt accomplished what only very few Nature Coast anglers in our area have done and that's a Grand Slam. Snook, trout, red fish and we even found a bonus tripletail, all in today's Crystal River charter. Matt only gets to fish a couple times a year, so I pointed out some locations for him to try and we caught some different species in all the areas we covered. Today's trout were scattered inshore on the flats and we caught a couple keepers on DOA glow jerk baits. Next, we caught a beautiful snook jigging MirrOlure Lil' John's along the rocks and also landed a hefty tripletail floating on a nearby crab buoy, that couldn't resist a shrimp.  And to end the day, we hit the creeks and sight fished a slot red fish to top our charter. I thank you Matt for the great day and a big congratulations on your achievement... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Big Red Bonus!!!

Another fun group trip today with good friend Capt. Zorn and we had the pleasure of fishing the Zimmerman party. It's been tough to make it out over the last week and today's pleasant weather was a welcomed surprise.  I had Jeremy and Jim on board and targeting trout was the days theme. The action for us was a little slow, but we had some action and a mixed catch including trout, mackerel, flounder and blue fish. Capt. Z's team did great with a limit of quality trout to make some happy faces. Today's big catch for my team was Jeremy hooking in to and landing a red fish of a life time. While jigging for trout, we lucked in to this beautiful fish and it was quite a battle on 10lb test. He played the fish beautifully, took some memorable pictures and watched her swim away. I thank the entire group for a wonderful day and look forward to seeing you all again. Here's Jeremy with his prized catch... Capt. Dan

Someday's, you hit it just right! With the barometer dropping before tomorrows front, today's action was unbelievable. The gulf reached the 60 degree mark and it seemed as if the fish came out of hibernation. John and Kelli were on board with me today and for the first part of their vacation, it truly began with a bang. We targeted the rock bars today with MirrOlure Lil' John's in the new bourbon color and it was the magic color. This color is similar to the root beer color, but more translucent and can be found exclusively a Blue Water Tackle in Homosassa. The trout bite and the additional bonus species were great and several trout were over the 20" mark. The team did beautifully catching their limit of trout and our next stop with the tide topping out, was a couple red fish points. The action was slow for the first couple places, but the last spot, we hit the money. We hooked into eight red fish on free lined live shrimp, with a couple nice keepers to end our day. I thank you both for the very memorable day and congratulations on a fine day of fishing... Capt. Dan

The 15mph NW winds that were forecast, never hit us today and it sure was a beautiful day. Jim, Vern and Jerry were my guest and these guys had a great day. It was overcast and chilly yesterday, but the sun was out for us today and the fish turned on. We didn't move around to much today and just concentrated on one area and worked the oyster bars. Glow colored DOA cal shad tails under deadly combo rigs was the bait of the day. I've been discouraged with the red fishing lately, but decided to give it another try. As luck would have it, we pulled up to a rocky point and in no time; landed seven beautiful red fish on free lined live shrimp. I guess you just never know. I thank you all for the great time and congratulations on your fine catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River, Working Hard!!!!

Today we did not have fast and furious action by any means, but we did catch a few to make the day a success. Dave and Alex were my guest out of Crystal River and once again, we had a real low tide to contend with. We spent most of the day inshore targeting trout and we did catch a few here and there, but only a couple keepers to show for our efforts. We used a variety of baits and techniques, but the MirrOLure Lil' John's did their job on producing the trout. With the little bit of tide that did come in, we were able to add a red fish to the mix and lost another with quite an explosive strike! A windy start to the day, but calmed down for a very pleasant afternoon. I thank you both for the fun time and here's Alex with her first red fish... Capt. Dan

Homosassa in the Creeks...

I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today with my great friends and fellow Homosassa Guides Association members Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt and William Toney and we had the pleasure of fishing the Smith party. It was quite a chilly start to the day and when starting my truck up this morning, there was a little ice on the windshield. That sums up how the boat ride was (cold), but the day turned out to be beautiful and warmed nicely. We kept it simple free lining shrimp in the pockets and points in the creeks and caught some beautiful red fish and trout. The water has cleared nicely and we actually sight casted to a few red fish to top off the day. All the boats did equally well and our afternoon shore lunch was great. I want to thank Betsy, Brooke and Kyle for joining me today and congratulations on a wonderful catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Family Fun...

A mixed bag day for our Crystal River 1/2 day charter and I had the pleasure of having the Hamrick family on board. We met at Pete's Pier this morning to cloudy, chilly conditions and began the morning targeting trout in the shallow kelp beds in Salt River. The trout action was pretty good, but we had to catch them quick, due to the rapid out going tide and avoid getting "stuck"!  We put a couple keepers in the cooler and released several others before we returned to the river. The skies finally cleared, the sun was shining and some more fish were brought aboard. Mangrove snapper, red fish and black drum filled out the rest our charter and I thank you all for the great day. Here's Tommy with a Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Hot Trout....

It makes my job so much more enjoyable, when the weather is as nice as it has been. Clell and Lee joined me today out of Crystal River and once again, perfect tides, calm seas and hungry trout made for an absolute wonderful day. We targeted the outer bars and the MirrOlure Lil' Johns did their job. New penny, watermelon, and purple were today's flavors and all worked equally well. The tide was up enough for some early afternoon red fishing and we caught a few to end the day. I always enjoy our trips with you guys and great job today... Capt. Dan
