Homosassa Early Start...

We got a jump on the tide leaving at 7am this morning and myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, Jim Long, Charlie Harris and Duane Tibbetts fished the Watson party, to a load of trout and red fish. We did a split double, with a morning trip, shore lunch and afternoon trip to fill out the day. I had Spain and Herbert for the morning and Zack and Tyler for the afternoon. The red fish bite was pretty good with the sun coming up and a couple keepers were coming on board.  We left the red fish and a nice catch of trout kept us busy before noon and our afternoon trout bite was outstanding. We had our limit for the day and i thank all you guys for the fun time. Here's Herbert with an early morning red fish... Capt. Dan

The SE 15mph wind pushed the water out today and it made a bit of a challenge to stay on the hot trout bite. Doug, Aaron and Jake were on board and despite the less than favorable conditions, we caught a lot of trout. We left from Pete's Pier Marina and actually tried to make a run offshore in hopes of trolling up a grouper or two. Well, the rough seas chased us back inshore and we toughed it out and had a decent catch of trout. We had tons of action with the under slots, and seven keepers made their way to the cooler. Finally around 1pm the tide was making its way back in and we had enough water to red fish to the North. The guys found a couple nice keepers to end the day and I think they did great dealing with the choppy conditions. Here's Aaron with a beautiful Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

The fire tiger color worked its magic for us today on the flats South of Homosassa. Dr. Coco and John were on board for the day and once again, the speckeled trout bite was great. Working the shallow yellow hard bottom areas with good stands of kelp grass was our pattern and the trout were very cooperative. For close to an hour stretch, we had fish on three at a time and we all agreed it was at least a one hundred fish day. The redfish fishing was a bit of a challenge and just like yesterday, we could only find one keeper to add to our catch. It was very good day on the water and I thank all you guys for the last couple of days. I look forward to our charters next year and here's my crew with today's fine spread... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Hot Trout!!!

Carter and John joined me today for day two of our three day group charter and the trout bite today was hot. We got our start just after 8am and made a run south to some shallow kelp beds and the trout were in a feeding mood. It was very good action and we used a different colored DOA shrimp, the fire tiger color and with the water off color, it worked great. We had our trout limit, but red fishing was a little tough and only could find one keeper to add to the mix. It was a fantastic day and beautiful weather to top it off. I thank you guys for the fun time and we'll see you tomorrow... Capt. Dan

Homosassa History Lesson...

A very memorable day out of Homosassa and I had two long time Citus County anglers on board to share some stories. John and Carter were on board with me for the day and these two gentlemen have been fishing these waters since the 40's. I've always enjoyed history and especially hearing about the old days here on my home waters - and so much has changed. The fishing was good today with a nice mix of trout and red fish, and the usual assorted species to make the day interesting. I thank you both for the history lesson and look forward to our next charter... Capt. Dan

We could feel it in the air today.  Just a hint of coolness running down the river this morning and a very pleasant NE breeze, gave us a taste of hopefully an early fall. I had Clell and Lee on board today for a full day charter out of Crystal River and the day started off well targeting some red fish. We had some good action to the North of the channel and also the south, and we used a combination of live shrimp and cut baits for the red fish. The trout bite was outstanding again today on the shallow hard bottom areas and once again the DOA deadly combo/MIrrOlure Lil' John combination was the ticket. Good quality keeper sized trout and steady action made for a great afternoon. I thank you both for the fun time and congratulation's on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Seeing "RED"...

After being rained out and blown off the water for a couple of days, today's trip felt great. Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, William Toney, Gary Cox, and Mike Baize fished the Livsey party to a good catch of trout and red fish. I had the pleasure of having Taylor and John on board and we began the day to an excellent red fish bite. Using fresh cut mullet, the guys caught some beautiful upper slot red fish and quickly had their limit. We left the reds and made a couple drifts inshore and picked up 1/2 a dozen trout. DOA deadly combos and MirrOlure Lil' Johns were what the trout wanted and we wrapped up our trip by noon. We prepared a shore lunch and another fine day was had here on the Nature Coast. I thank everyone for the fun time and here's my crew with their catch... Capt. Dan

1/2 Day Reds...

A windy, but fun 1/2 day charter today out of Crystal River and Becky and Ron found a couple real nice red fish. We left from Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and made a run to the back country creeks. The tide was rushing out and we only had enough time to fish a couple points. On stop number two, we found a matching pair of red fish that fell to some free lined live shrimp. We made a long run across the bumpy bay to the spoil islands and picked up another keeper to end our morning trip. I thank you both for the wonderful time and here's some happy smiles and red fish... A fine day out of Crystal River with the Platz family and friends again and the group did great. We spent most of the day using MirrOLure Lil' John jigs on the spotty bottom areas in 10ft of water for our mixed bag of species. Numerous trout, lady fish, sharks, sea bass, silver trout, mackerel, etc... kept our rods bent and it's always a fun time with all the different kinds of species. Around 1pm the tide was getting right to target red fish, so we hit the creeks. Free lined live shrimp around the rocky points produced for us today, and the red fish ended the day with a bang. I thank you all for the great day and enjoy all the fillets... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout & Reds...

Day two today at the Homosassa Fishing Club and I had the pleasure of having Josh and Kevin on board. We had a full day charter and began our trip just off the keys targeting speckled trout. It was a windy one and we also had to dodge several rain storms throughout our trip. The trout action was fair with mostly shorts on the end of our lines, but we did mange a couple keepers before we hit the creeks and found some red fish. Using a combination of live pin fish and free lined live shrimp, we caught a couple red fish to end our day. Thank you all for the great weekend and here's Kevin with a beautiful Homosassa red fish... Capt. Dan
