Offshore Inventory...

A picture perfect day offshore Crystal River with Hazel and Bill on board again and we had a ball. This was a catch and release trip, so I was just as excited as they were, " I was wanting to check on the grouper". We trolled over just a couple spots and the gags were hitting just about every pass. We released some fine ones over the 10lb mark and then mixed it up on some rocks for a little variety. A couple more grouper, sheepshead and some real nice sea bass filled out our afternoon - it was a great time. I thank you both and I look forward to seeing you next time... Capt. Dan

Early Arrival Sheep's....

Well folks, it's the beginning of that time of year again when the sheepshead congregate for their annual winter spawn. If you all know me or have followed me over the years; you know how I love to target winter sheepshead. I had Bill and Hazel on board for the day " I'm back up and running" and we checked out some offshore winter sheepshead haunts. It's still a bit early for the large spawning congregations, but we caught several keepers and it gave me some reassurance the abundance of fish are on their way. We didn't keep any fish today and it was just a fun catch and release trip; along with some river red fish as well. I thank you both for the fun day and I look forward to our next Crystal River Charter... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trolling Gags...

It was day two with the West family and Tom and his dad Herbert had a ball. The weather was much more favorable today and we were able to spend more time tackling some grouper. However, I took a minute and a quick stop in the river to catch a couple snook before we headed West. After a couple small fun sized snook, we made our run to 20ft of water and put out the plugs. I stayed off Crystal River today and even though the water is dirty, we trolled up a fine limit of gags. They were wanting natural colors and only one came on a orange Rapala x-rap 20. To end our trip, I anchored up on a small rock and found some early arrival sheepshead and a few grunts to wrap up our day. I thank you both for a fun couple of days and look forward to seeing you soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Misty Reds....

Good to be back on the big pond, but definitely some weird weather today. The last three days have been extremely windy and rainy and unfortunately, I've cancelled these last few days. Mishel and Earl were on schedule for today, and even though today was dreary and cold for April, we gave it a try. With misty rain bands and a steady West wind, we had plenty of water to give red fishing a try. The team and I left from Pete's Pier Marina just after 10am and we hit the keys. Free lined shrimp around the rocky points did well for us today and we caught several red fish, sheepshead and trout. A couple of the red fish were mid slot fish and the usual shorts for this time of year, kept us busy as well. I'm glad we gave it a try and we did well. I thank you both as always for our time on the water and here's Earl with the big fish of the day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Steady Action...

A pretty incredible day offshore Crystal River and Sharon, Bill and Pam got to experience it. I picked up the gang at Pete's Pier Marina a little after 8am and headed West. The forecast was calling for very favorable conditions, but the winds picked up a bit and it was choppy with a good swell mixed in. We toughed out the ride, anchored on one break and it was ON! Evey drop produced a sheepshead, grunt or grouper and I was a busy boy. The team had to bring a bunch of fish in to feed the big family in town and I think they did just that. With a box full, we called it a day and even picked up a bonus triple tail on a buoy to top off the trip. I thank you all for the excellent day and congratulations on an outstanding catch... Capt. Another fun trip offshore on the sheepshead grounds and the action sure was great. I had the please of having Jim, Andrew and Eric on board and they had a ball. We left from Pete's Pier Marina and made our initial run to about 17ft of water and anchored down. One stop was all it took and we loaded up on the sheepshead. The seas were great, with just a slow roll and it even calmed some for the ride in. The team put a excellent catch in the box to secure a great fish dinner while on vacation and plenty to take back home. We picked up a couple trout in the creeks to end the day and I thank you all for the great day... Capt. Dan

Spring Break Sheeps....

An excellent 1/2 day charter with Chris, Justine, Callie and Emma on board and they had a blast reeling in some sheepshead. With young anglers on board, I always like to make it fun and anchoring up for sheepshead was a perfect plan. We left the dock at 9am and made our way West. Just a couple stops and the action was fantastic. 5lb average sheepshead were on the lines and this family had a ball. A great way for them to spend their spring break and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River at its Best....

What a day!!! An excellent group trip today with some of my best friends Capt's. Mark Zorn and Rick Spratt and we fished the Killebrew party. My team was Brad, Bob and Tim and we ran offshore for the day. Excellent sheepshead action, with the big fish of the year being caught weighing over 10lbs. The grouper were active as we landed several for catch and release photos and some bonus species. Brad caught a huge black drum and Bob landed a very cool trigger fish. The other boats did fantastic on trout, macks and a pompano. A really fun day and I thank you all for the great time. Here's the end of the day total, and the group is going to have one heck of a fish fry... Capt. Dan

Sheepsheadville....

The bite is excellent for the convict fish. What an awesome day offshore with Terry, Ryan and Roy and did we ever keep the rods bent. I ran back offshore once again to the sheepshead grounds and the action was fantastic. We kept a good dozen of fine sheepshead and released well over twenty, with most of them over the 5lb range. Perfect conditions made for a smooth ride, but no triple tail today. The team added a trout and flounder to the mix and a great day is in the books. I thank you all for the fun time and I always look forward to fishing with you... Capt. Dan

You Have to Love March....

March is the turn around month for us here on the Nature Coast and as winter rolls behind us, a whole new bunch of species come in to play. Pat and Michael were my guests today and with weak mid day tides, offshore was the plan again. Sheepshead, grunts, grouper and a couple bonus triple tail were the species for us. The sheepshead bite was excellent once again and we encountered some real large fish in excess of 5lbs while releasing over a dozen of that size. A couple drops on various rocks filled out our day; until we ran the crab trap buoys and encountered a few triple tail. It's that time of year again and they are always a welcomed bonus catch for the day. I thank you both for an excellent trip and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
