Back up and Running....

Hello everyone, I know it's been a while but I'm back up and running and it sure was good to be back out today. The Young Boats restoration team did a tremendous job fixing my boat from the accident, and it looks good as new. For today's trip, I had Jason and Frank on board and we did something a little bit different. I took the guys down South in the 30ft range and we targeted mangrove snapper. I have to have the right conditions to do this and today is was perfect. Calm sea's and free lined live shrimp on a 1/8th oz jig head did the trick for us. We boated some beautiful snapper, released numerous gags and so many grunts I lost count. I thank you both and great job.... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Rock Hopping...

Some shallow rock hopping today with Jerry and Jacob and these guys from out of town had a blast. We did a combination of grouper fishing and bending the rod on the rocks with live shrimp. The action was pretty steady for most of the day with grouper, snapper, flounder, grunts, lady fish and a decent cobia. The wind wasn't quite as bad today, but still a "bouncy" ride heading West. You all did great and hope to see you next time you're in town... Capt. Dan

Offshore Weather...

A decent weather day to finally go outside a bit and Danny, Bart and Shane did very well. I did fish yesterday, but the morning storms delayed the trip during the prime time of the tide and we had a late take off. We caught a couple trout, several bluefish and jacks; but the weather hurt us. Today though was great with some decent grouper action on the ledges with live pin fish, plus a few mangrove snapper and grunts with live shrimp. The big catch was Danny bringing up a several hundred pound Goliath grouper we fed a live jack crevalle to, and it was a great battle. We brought it boat-side, took some pics and watched her swim away. A great time and I thank you all... Capt. Dan

Today was our annual Homosassa Guides Association trip where we have the pleasure of taking out the 5th grade class from Homosassa Elementary. Myself and all the captains look forward to this day and having all these young anglers on board. From seeing dolphins, manatees and various birds, plus the fishing - it's a special day for them and us. Today was great as my crew caught several mangrove snapper, plus we found a huge school of giant black drum. This was a real bonus and we brought one to the boat well over 30lbs. A fun time for sure and I thank you all... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore...

A little choppy today, but a great day offshore with Tony, Todd and Tom. The guys were ready to play and they turned some fine gags. We fished the 20ft range and with only a couple break offs, the gags came on board. Turning these shallow water grouper makes the day and if you have the endurance to get them away from their structure, it can be very rewarding. The mangrove snapper, hog fish and macks kept us busy, while free lining live shrimp in between grouper bites. I thank you all and great job today team... Capt. Dan

Big Surprises...

What an awesome trip today... Danny and Christine were my guests and it was fabulous mixed bag day. The red fishing started our day and the team caught a fine limit of red fish, on the points with free lined live shrimp.  The seas were glass calm, so we headed West to the 28ft range. Well, while anchored up; we had some surprises and permit, grouper, snapper, grunts and mackerel filled out our day. The Permit were the big bonus as I've lived my entire life here on the water and have seen them from time to time, but today was my day to catch them - as we brought three to the boat. A day to remember and I can't thank you both enough for the great day... Capt. Dan

Tough Gags...

A very tough bite for us today with Marilyn and David on board, but we gave it our all. Grouper was the requested species of the day and we jumped around trying to find some keepers. Our rods were bent most of the day with short gags and we actually caught over twenty or so, but nothing in the 24" range our larger. The gulf water temperature is in the upper 80's and can make it hit and miss and today; the big ones got the best of us. Still some nice snapper and flounder secured a diner or two and I thank you both as always for the great time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Slam & Some...

A good time with the Villages team of Lauren, Dan and Big Fish Bob. Our day began on the outgoing tide and securing a fine catch of red fish, plus a snook on the first cast. We left this inshore scene and made our way out to 12ft of water. We set up shop on some hard bottom and had some fantastic mangrove snapper and grouper action. The action was fast and furious for over and hour, and Lauren actually turned a keeper gag on light 10lb test tackle. We finished the day with a trout to complete the slam and I thank you all... Going Deep...

It's not to often I have the weather to go deep, but today was the day. The guys were back on board from yesterday and with calm seas, we went West. I fished some of my deeper grouper structures and caught a couple, but it was quite slow and actually disappointing in the bites. The grouper bite in general this year is quite tough from all the reports in the area and hopefully with the upcoming fall season, it gets better. The team however, had some great action on snapper and a couple bonus hog fish; which are always a welcomed surprise. The sea's were calm and though the grouper bite was slow, we had a great day.... Good Mix...

A great time today with Mike, Chris and Steve and we had a nice mixed bag. We made the run offshore to about 18ft of water and on one spot, we did extremely well. Red fish, trout, snapper, cobia and grunts sure kept us busy using live pin fish and shrimp. We did catch a couple small gags on the first stop, but I moved around a bit after that and Mike turned a hefty gag plus releasing several just under the 24" mark. A great morning and I'll see you all tomorrow. Here's Mike with his big gag grouper of the day... Capt. Dan
