Trout & Reds...
A super fun Sunday with John and Val and the husband and wife team did fantastic. We stayed inshore for the day and targeted trout and red fish. The trout were quite cooperative and they were caught on a combination of DOA glow jerkbaits and bourbon colored Lil Johns. A fine limit came on board and we dunked some shrimp on the outer points for a couple red fish. I thank you both and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan
Taste of Spring...
As I cleaned the boat this morning, I saw the first signs of spring with lots of yellow pollen coming off. This means it's just about trout time and we sure found some today with the Sumner team. I had the guys for their last of the 4 day fishing adventure they've been on, and I had them the last two days. Good trout action for us with MirrOlure Lil Johns to get the day going and it was great to see some nice trout. The guys and I also ran offshore quite a ways and did pretty well on the sheepshead to finish up the day. A fun trip with you all, I thank you and you have plenty of goodies to take back home... Capt. Dan
Crystal River Little Mix...
A mix of trout and Sheepshead today with the Sumner team and we did OK; for the choppy and extremely foggy conditions. I met the gang at the Plantation on Crystal River and we were greeted to dense fog conditions. It might as well been raining for how wet we were, but we pushed through it. The guys jigged up a couple nice trout before we ran to sheepshead land on MirrOlure Lil Johns. The sheepshead were biting pretty good right away, but soon enough the winds picked up and the sea's got quite rough. We ran inshore some, picked up a couple more nice sheepshead and another great day on the big pond is in the books... Capt. Dan
Whopper Sheep's...
What a day with Dave and Danny on board and these gentlemen caught some big ones. As you know from my previous reports, this Sheepshead season has been off a bit and I believe the harsh January winter is to blame. Today though, we ran offshore quite a ways and the sea's were absolutely perfect for doing so. We stayed just inside the 30ft range and the big whopper Sheepshead were there. I made a couple drops and by just after noon, we had a really nice catch. You both are always a blast to have on board and great job team... Capt. Dan
Homosassa 5th Grade, Playing Hooky...
Today was our annual Homosassa Guides Association trip where we have the pleasure of taking out the 5th grade class from Homosassa Elementary. Myself and all the captains look forward to this day and having all these young anglers on board. From seeing dolphins, manatees and various birds, plus the fishing - it's a special day for them and us. Today was great as my crew caught several mangrove snapper, plus we found a huge school of giant black drum. This was a real bonus and we brought one to the boat well over 30lbs. A fun time for sure and I thank you all... Capt. Dan
Fun Sheep's...
A fun time with the Dauches party and this has been a yearly trip for them. Sheepshead were are target, and we sent down the shrimp on knocker rigs and had a ball. The day was absolutely beautiful as we jumped from spot to spot and we had fine catch to show for the day. I always enjoy having you all on board and I thank you. I'll see you next time... Capt. Dan
Getting Better...
Little by little, each day is getting better and better form the harsh winter we've had. Today's trip with Shane and Ryan on board did very well on some shallow structures on sheepshead. Lots of grouper action again as well and it's always so good to see the juvenile fish in such great numbers. The tide was later and we fished a bit extra overtime, to see if the trout would turn on. Well, they did and we found some nice ones on DOA jerk baits to wrap up the day. A fun time and I thank you both... Capt. Dan
Hefty Sheepshead...
Steve and Paul were on board with me today and it sure was beautiful offshore. Glass calm conditions, but the sheepshead were being a bit finicky. We did the usual rock hoping game getting one here and there, plus some nice groupers bent our rods as well. The gulf is slowly warming up and the trout action should begin picking up as well. Here's Paul with the largest one of the day... Capt. Dan
