Cobia and Gags...

A good day with Bob from Pennsylvania on board and we always have fun. We covered lots of ground from chasing some tarpon down South, to rock pile fishing offshore. We had some shots at some rolling tarpon this morning, but they were not in a feeding mood for us. So, we made a run offshore to some rock piles and had some good action on grouper and cobia. Also, we had an offshore snook hooked up for a bit as well and it was a hefty one before it cut us off. Grouper season opens Saturday and it looks like it should be pretty good with all the fish around right now. I thank you Bob and I'll see you tomorrow... Capt. Dan

Wild Day...

A day to remember with my long time client Mishel on board. Her and I had a blast today and we saw some really exciting fishing. We made a couple stops this morning to grab some live baits and we then ran offshore to bend the rod. I set up and we immediately hook up on a cobia who greeted us right under the boat. As we're fighting this cobia, we see a huge offshore snook come below him as I quickly rig up and actually hook that fish. Unfortunately though, my live pinfish double hooked itself and he escaped to be caught next time. We release the cobia, send down the next bait and hook up on a hefty gag grouper in the 14lb range. As the grouper comes up, he gets eaten by a huge jewfish well over 300lbs and the battle is on. We play the tug of war game and he eventually spits out the grouper and we bring him boat side for a picture. The grouper was beaten up pretty bad and we released him on his way. Now, moments later as the grouper is unfortunately drifting belly up down tide from us; a massive bull shark comes and eats the grouper in one bite - it must have been over 8ft long. A wild string of events for us and we sure will remember this day for a long time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mix...

A bit of a mix today with Ian and Michelle on board and we had a fun time. We began the day in the back country creeks and caught quite a few snook to start the day. We targeted the shorelines with DOA glow jerk baits and good current flow. We left the snook action around 11am as the tide stopped and ran offshore to see what was happening. The seas were calm and we caught a couple gag grouper and a pair of cobia for the afternoon trip. I thank you both as always and we'll see you next time... Capt. Dan

Inshore & Offshore...

A fun day with Bart, Danny and Shane and the team had a good catch both offshore and inshore. We started the day drifting some spotty bottom in 8ft of water and put a dozen nice trout on ice using MirrOLure Lil' Johns. It was a little bumpy with the stiff East wind, but around noon it calmed and we ran offshore. The Offshore action was good and we brought 5 cobia to the boat and a couple whopper gags. Bart had big fish honors with one well in the double digit range. The guys had quite the day and we found a new grouper rock that was loaded with some hefty gags for when the season opens... Capt. Offshore Cobia...

A good offshore trip with Larry, Jim and Dean as we found our cobia we were looking for. This year the cobia are not here in big numbers yet, but were finding a keeper a trip and a few under sized ones too. The gag grouper action is still steady as well with some beautiful gags being released. Live pin fish has been the go to bait and here's Jim with his first keeper cobia... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Cobia...

The second cobia trip for Joe and Joanne and we sealed the deal with another keeper. The action was better this trip, as I pulled up to a hot rock and five cobia came off the bottom to greet us. We caught three of them with one making it over the minimum 33" mark and live pin fish was our bait of choice. Also, several gag grouper kept us busy as well and most were in the keeper size and released to be seen again hopefully soon. A great time and I thank you both... Capt. Dan

Cobia on the Board...

Well folks we found the first cobia of the season today and Joe and Joanne were all smiles when we hooked up. I did quite a bit of driving today and hit lots of spots hoping to find them; but it was a 4th quarter kind of day and we found one just in time. The grouper action though was excellent and we released some fine gags up to 15lbs on live pin fish. I did some looking for tripletail also, but they were scarce and only saw one small fish. Great job team and I thank you both as always for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Grouper & Cobia...

A great day on the rocks again with Dave and Danny and the gentlemen had fine limit of grouper and a bonus cobia. We left the Plantation on Crystal River and headed offshore to about 23ft and dropped down the baits. The grouper bite was very good and they immediately hooked up with some nice gags. A bonus cobia popped up next to the boat and that was a welcomed surprise and more tasty groceries. I thank you both and great job team... Capt. Dan

Cobia & Tripletail...

Another good day to be out of Crystal River with Joe and Joanne. The husband and wife team joined me and caught a beauty of a cobia and triple tail for the day. Cobia was our main target and we went 1 for 3 on hook ups, which is about right as they can sure be tough to keep buttoned up. Joe actually brought in a keeper sized gag grouper as the last cobia followed up, and I quickly changed gears as we hooked that fish. Live pinfish was our bait of the day and I thank you both as always for the good time... Capt. Dan

Way Offshore...

For today's trip with the boys, we headed West and I had the pleasure of joining my great friend Capt. Clay Shidler aboard his offshore Freeman boat with the team. We ran out to the 60ft range and had a blast. The red snapper catch and release action was fantastic, plus we had some fine gags and a whopper cobia too. Live pin fish were the baits of the day and I must say, our offshore red snapper fishery is quite impressive. I truly believe we released over 50 keeper sized snapper for the day. The big 52lb cobia was the big fish of the day and a fun trip on the big pond... Capt. Dan
