Homosassa "Long John's"...

I had to dig deep in the closet to find the long John's this morning, but I'm glad I had them on. A cold 45 degree morning was what myself and Homosassa Fishing Club anglers John, Brent and Scott experienced heading out today. I had intentions of doing some catch and release grouper action, but the brisk North wind and murky gulf waters changed our plans. Instead, we did a mixture of trout and near shore fishing to salvage the day. It was cold and we had to work for our bites, but the guys did great and had a fine mixed catch. We have a shore lunch on order tomorrow and today's catch is going to be a treat. Thank you all for the fun day and we'll see you tomorrow. Here's Brent with a beautiful gulf flounder... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Grouper Delight....

We hit it as good as it gets today out of Homosassa and Bill, Karen and Len had a fantastic day. I met the crew just after 8am at Macrae's and made our way offshore Homosassa and the grouper bite was on. We trolled our plugs over a couple different strucutres and had our limit of hefty gags. The grouper bite was great and our next plan was adding some tasty grunts to our catch. We anchored up over some shallower rocks and caught a variety of grouper, grunts and mackerel to keep us busy. To top off the day, we made a quick drift inshore, picked up a couple keeepr trout and called it a day. i can't thank you all enough for such a great time and congragulations on your outstanding day.. When the weathers allows me to get offshore in October, the fishing is usually as good as it gets. This is exactly what Merrill, Lou and Dan experienced this fine day off Crystal River. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina and we were ready to troll up some gags. We targeted ledges, rocks and wrecks and all these areas had some very nice keeper sized grouper on them; plus we lost a couple too. Fire tiger, orange and blue mackerel colored Rapala and Yo-Zuri plugs were the top producers today and there was very little floating grass to deal with. Leaving the grouper, we anchored up on a rock pile and caught a multitude of species. The action was non stop and the big and "pleasant" surprise, was hooking into five beautiful pompano to add to our catch. What a perfect day and congratulations on your outstanding catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Big Haul...

I think we had almost everything we could offer today except red fish; but I'm confident we would have had a few, if the tide was in our favor. Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt and Jody Johnson were at the Homosassa Fishing Club and we had the Turman party on board for the next couple of days. Randy, George and Jimmy were on board with me for the day and the morning trout bite was great. We drifted the shallow hard bottom areas with kelp grass and had nine beautiful Homosassa trout to start our morning. The tide was slowing up, so my crew and I ran to the shallow rock piles and caught a mixed variety. Grouper, sea bass, grunts and mangrove snapper kept us busy throughout the afternoon and it was just a fun day to be on the water. I thank the entire group for an outstanding day and here's our end of the day shot... Capt. Dan

A little choppy today offshore, but Jim and Terry were ready to give some Crystal River grouper trolling a try. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina this morning and made our way offshore to about the 28ft range. We sent down the plugs over some hard bottom ledges and found some nice grouper. The hot color plugs for the day were the bunker and chartreuse and silver Rapala x-rap 20's. We caught our four gags pretty quick and stopped on a rock pile pile to catch a little variety of species. Mangrove snapper, mackerel and grunts were keeping us busy and a live shrimp on a 1/8thoz Hank Brown jig head was the bait of choice. I thank you both for the great day and enjoy all the fish... Homosassa Variety....

From the inshore species to the shallow rock piile residents, Donna, Tony and Merrick caught them all. What a fun day out of Homosassa and this great family sampled pretty much everything. We began the day on the outgoing tide redfishing and worked our way offshore. Every species we wanted to catch we encountered and the group had a fine catch to show for it. Action was steady on the rock piles and live shrimp on a 1/8oz Hank Brown jig head was our bait of choice for the day. I thank you all for the fun time and enjoy all the good fillets... Capt. Dan

Scallops and Rocks...

Myself and Capt. Rick Spratt had wonderful time with the Crymes family today and we loaded up on the scallops and caught a nice mixed bag on the rock piles. We met the group at Pete's Pier Marina and began the day just off the keys gathering our 8 gallon limit of scallops. Crystal clear water and perfect tides made it "easy" pickin's and our crew did outstanding. Just before noon we had our limit, cleaned our catch and then made our run offshore to spend the afternoon. Anchoring in the 8ft range, we caught a nice mix of grouper, grunts, sea bass, jacks, mackerel, etc.... and the action was very good. Live shrimp on a 1/8th oz Hank Brown jig head was our bait of choice for our success. I thank you all for the great time and look forward to seeing you again next time. Here's Colt with a handsome bag of scallops... Capt. Dan

We did it all today out of Crystal River and my two wonderful lady clients, Debbie and Shelley had a great time. We left from the Plantation Resort this morning and started the day on the outgoing tide gathering our limit of scallops on just two locations. The weekend crowds were out there, but we got away from the pack and had them all to our selves. Just before 11am we had our 6 gallon limit and made our run offshore to the 12ft range and targeted the mixed variety on the rock piles. Grouper, grunts, mangrover snapper, flounder, etc... kept us busy and a simple live shrimp on a 1/8oz Hank Brown jig head was the bait of choice. I thank you both for the fun time and here's my lady anglers with a cooler full of goodies... Capt. Dan

A fun father and son full day charter out of Crystal River today and Rick and Everett had a ball. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina just after 8am, we made our run offshore to some scattered rock piles and see what we could find. Casting jigs, free lining live shrimp and bottom fishing with Hank Brown jigs produced a mixed bag of treats including; trout, grouper, lady fish, sea bass, mackerel, grunts and even a early arrival cobia. My young angler Everett did great and nothing brings more joy to this Captains than seeing a young fisherman catch a bunch of fish. I thank you all for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore Sheeps

Wow, what a day! Skip, Chuck and John joined me for a full day out of Crystal River and running down some sheepshead. With hardly a ripple on the gulf, we loaded up, ran to some of my favorite grouper ledges and the sheepshead were there. The water is crystal clear right now in the 20ft range and it's quite a sight seeing all the different species of fish swimming around on all the various structures. We stopped on about a dozen locations and caught over 60 sheepshead along with some beautiful gag grouper, sea bass and numerous grunts. This was a big catch today and I only take a couple off each location, but please know, we safely released twice as many as we kept to be caught again. I did make a tackle change from the 1/8th oz Hank Brown jig head to a 1/2 oz knocker rig, due to the deeper water and it worked perfect. A great day with some great clients; I thank you all for the outstanding charter. Here's the crew with today's impressive catch... Capt. Dan
