A busy day at the Homosassa Fishing Club and myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt, Fred Lyles, Mike Baize, Jody Johnson, Eric Tony and Don Chancey had the pleasure of fishing the Dobson party. We all began the day catching trout to secure our shore lunch orders and all the boats did a fine job doing so. My boat had five keepers before the approaching storms and then the group rushed in to the Suarez island to prepare a fine shore lunch. The Suarez island is a private residence that gives the Homosassa Guides Association permission to use when the weather is bad and allows us a safe place to cater our clients for our lunches. Our lunch was great and with an hour to spare, we ran to the keys before the top on the incoming tide and found a couple red fish to end the day. I thank everyone for the fun day and here's John and Kyle with a couple Homosassa red fish... Capt. Dan

Working HARD!!!

Not every day is a easy limit of the desired species and cast after cast action. I always like to be truthful in my daily reports and the red fish today took some work. I had Betsy, Bob, Diana and Ralph on board for day of chasing down some red fish and I was almost ready to call uncle. After an easy day targeting them yesterday, today was just not so. We began our trip with a snook on the first cast and that was it! Running from point to point, and fishing some of my most productive locations; the fish just were not cooperating. Finally, I made a long run to the dirty water in the back country, free lined some live pin fish and quickly put three keepers in the cooler. We lost a couple more around the rocks, but ended the day with some good action. Thank you all for toughing it out and here's Ralph with the first red fish of the day... Capt. Dan

Catch and Release Reds...

I had my good friend and client Jim on board out of Crystal River for a 1/2 day incoming tide red fish charter. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina, we ran to my pin fish trap, filled the live well and waited on the tide. We had a few light rain showers to contend with for the early morning, but to be honest, the rain felt refreshing. The rain passed, the tide turned and we caught some beautiful red fish. Jumping point to point and free lining live pin fish, we caught and released seven slot red fish and made some great memories. If was a fun time and it's always a pleasure to fish with you. Here's Jim with a great looking Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Variety....

From the inshore species to the shallow rock piile residents, Donna, Tony and Merrick caught them all. What a fun day out of Homosassa and this great family sampled pretty much everything. We began the day on the outgoing tide redfishing and worked our way offshore. Every species we wanted to catch we encountered and the group had a fine catch to show for it. Action was steady on the rock piles and live shrimp on a 1/8oz Hank Brown jig head was our bait of choice for the day. I thank you all for the fun time and enjoy all the good fillets... Capt. Dan

An early jump on the out going tide this morning and Gene and Linda hit it just right. We left from Pete's Pier Marina just after 7am as the tide was turning and the red fish bite was on. We fished the outer points, free lined some live shrimp and had a very good morning. We boated nine red fish, lost a couple and added a few snapper and sheepshead to the mix. Calm gulf waters and beating the afternoon heat, it was a perfect morning. I thank you all for the great time and here's Linda with a beautiful Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

On the Rocks...

The full moon in August is upon us and this is a great time to fish the shallow rocks and catch some mangrove snapper. Mike, Teddy and Spencer were on board with me today and we did just that. With a hundred live shrimp ready to go, we anchored up in the 8ft range and caught a mixed variety. Grouper, sea bass, grunts and snapper were coming in fast as we could drop our baits down. The snapper are here and every location produced several "mangos". The seas were a little rough towards noon time, so we ran inshore in hopes of some red fish. Today wasn't my day for red fishing and after stop after stop, we only came up with one just under the slot. Some days that's just how it goes, but we had a good time and covered a lot of water. Thanks guys for the fun day and here's Teddy with a gag grouper he caught on light tackle... Capt. Dan

The red fish bite was tough today on the points out of Homosassa, but the inshore trout bite was fantastic. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today with Captains Mark Zorn and William Toney and today's group was great. I had Doug and Darren on board and we put our time in looking for red fish, but only came up with one keeper and a under slot to show for our efforts. For a change of pace we surrendered to the uncooperative red fish, and found some great trout action off St. Martin's Keys. Using DOA holographic watermelon shrimp, my crew had their limit of trout and released a few others. It was a picture perfect day day and I thank you guys for the fun time. Crystal River 1/2 Day Reds....

Great to be back at the office! The weather is finally back on schedule and the red fish were waiting. Mel, Vic and Bob joined me today for a 1/2 day charter out of Crystal River and the guys had some great red fishing action. A perfect incoming tide, free lined live shrimp around the points and bent rods with beautiful red fish - what a great morning.  We totaled seven reds for our trip, with a couple trout mixed in and I thank you all for a fun time. Here's today's crew with their catch... Capt. Dan

Back to the Hommosassa Fishing Club today with fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn and William Toney and we had a very fun group today. I had on board Bob, Jim and Rob and these gentlemen were from Alabama and ready to experience some fine Homosassa fishing. We targeted trout for the majority of the day, and we caught a bunch of trout. The only problem was, I was cursed with under slot trout; and we only had a hand full of keepers to show for our efforts. The action was great but for a change of plans,  I suggested giving red fishing a try and it was a great decision. We fished a couple of points and caught half a dozen beautiful red fish, but the rain got us on the way in. Thank you guys for the great day and here's my crew with some of today's red fish... Capt. We had a fantastic corporate trip today out of the Best Western on the Crystal River and the MWI Veterinary supply group was on board. Myself and Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt and Don Chancey were the Captains and we all had a good catch of trout, red fish and flounder. I had Charlie and Wade for the day and we began our charter deep in the back country and found some beautiful red fish. Free lined live shrimp was our bait of choice and after catching our three keeper red fish, we spent the rest of the afternoon tackling some trout. The trout bite was spectacular, but a couple keepers make their way in to the cooler and numerous shorts kept our rods bent. Thank you all for the great time and look forward to seeing you again next year. Here's Charlie with one of today's red fish... Capt. Dan
